When the others are ready, Dev quietly pulls open the door just an inch and peeks in.
The room beyond seems to be a parlor of sorts, a little dusty but with obvious signs of occupation. Looking through the door to the right Dev sees a spiral staircase leading up to the next floor. A number of laden bookcases line the room and there are comfortable chairs and many embroidered quilts and cushions.
As Dev scans the room he notes there is a large silver cat? curled up atop one of the side cabinets....
Dev suddenly freezes when he sees the creature in the next room. To Quinn’s question, without removing his eyes from the silver feline, he places his finger to his lips. Then, “A cat creature. Let the others know?,” Quinn hears Dev say, soundlessly, in his mind. (message).
Retreating ever so slowly an inch or two from the cracked open door to allow room for subtle motion, Dev slowly raises his little pan pipes to his mouth with his white-gloved hand. Yellow lightning ever so softly sparkles along his horns, and the faintest echo of music is heard to suffuse the next room in its warm embrace. (Sleep, 25 HP unconscious.)
Dev nods to Lokilia. “There’s a cat in there,” he whispers back. “Maybe just a normal cat and I wasted some magic. But I didn’t want to take chances that it could be more than just a normal cat, and that it might alert others to our presence somehow. Especially with all this illusion magic they are using. So I put it into a magical sleep. It can’t wake up for a little while. It’s on top of the cabinet. Let’s go in.”
With that he quietly opens the door and enters the room, sneaking to the spiral staircase and surreptitiously peeking up it and listening. Anything? Is there a door at the top, or as Dev conjectures, does it simply open out into a room on the floor above?
"A wise move", Normont says quietly to Dev as he enters the room. His attention is instantly taken with the bookcase, and he wanders over to scan the contents of the library to see if any titles stand out, focussing his full attention on it.
He motions for Maggie to remain in the centre of the room, and Amber remains on his shoulder.

Normont notes and inordinate number of murder mysteries and a single row of biographies. Scanning the books none are overly valuable though a number appear to be of some antiquity so may be worth a little extra. There is also a battered copy of Finnegans Guide to Foxes.
The shelves contain no secrets, traps or treasures.
Unless there is a biography authored by someone of interest of him, for example Lord de Rolo, Normont will pick up the well read book about foxes. Opening it, he looks to see if it has been written in.
"Well someone lives here. They have a pet and have obviously read this book many times", he mumbles.
‘Each room seems to ask more questions than it answers,’ Dev thinks. He looks back over his shoulder, locking eyes with Quinn to make sure he knows where he’s going, then slips up the stairs just high enough to peek up onto the landing. Other than his red irises floating in the darkness, he remains scrupulously hidden.

Within is indeed a dedication which reads, " To My Darling Petunia, Your ever coursing Hound. Reginald."

There appear to be three closed doors on the landing. One on the far wall and two on the long perpendicular wall divided by a glass cabinet. There appear to be objects within the closed cabinet.....perhaps porcelain vases?
Lokilia notes the 'cat', glad that Dev hadn't hurt the creature. She does grin about Dev's mix-up between fox and cat though. She also sees as Dev starts to move up the stairs, heading over in that direction to keep an eye on him.
"This book was a gift to someone called Petunia, from someone called Reginald. Perhaps Reginald is the table", Normont says quietly, before noticing that Dev has climbed the stairs.
He wanders over next to Lokilia behind Dev.
"I believe this place and the goings on here are unrelated to Glinnick and the Faceless Ones. But there is certainly a mystery to solve here", he adds.
"Perhaps Petunia still lives here, but she would be quite old by now, unless she is a longer lived race of course. What do you see Dev?".

Lokilia watches closely as Normont examines the door. With his advice to Dev, she is ready for the door to be opened.

Quinn will relay the message to the rest of the team.
Lokilia nods wordlessly when Quinn gives her the message. Seeing Dev start to play his pan pipes, she waits to see what the result might be.

"A cat creature? Not just a cat?", Normont asks of Quinn, before realising Dev likely hadn't said more.
When he sees Dev start to play his pan pipes, he waits, assuming Dev has a plan.
Quinn shrugs.
Dev notes the animal does not move at all except for soft breathing and continues its now magically augmented nap.
Lokilia notes that it seems Dev completed his spell. But she's not sure what's happened. "Is everything ok now," she whispers quietly to him.

Lokilia also slips silently into the room, looking about to see if there is anything else of interest in there. (Perception: 20)

Lokilia immediately picks that the 'cat' is instead a silver fox which is snoring away peacefully.
Devs quick peek indicates the stairs open onto a landing above.......it is quiet upstairs.
