"Solid plan, great idea Normont, one can never be too careful in times such as these." Magnus says. Then excuses himself one last time and goes back to his room to make sure he has not left anything. Looking around making sure he has not left anything, he then pulls out 30 gold and leaves it on a table, for Maple and adds an additional note.
Maple, thank you very much for the hospitality and taking care of our animals, I am not sure our group will be back this way but someone from the soul office in Whitestone might be back to collect them. If no one has come in say two months time, consider them yours. I am also adding another note to the one that needs to be delivered that the soul should offer you any help you might need. I might be out of line but it appears something might be wrong about the surrounding area that has both you and Tolman worried and if you need help, the Cobalt Soul should offer their assistance. I can not guarantee they will but at least, well hopefully, with my recommendation they will listen to you and possibly lend a helping hand. Good luck and thank you again for your help.
The companions move some ten minutes back down the road, some struggling a little more than others with their burdens before turning into the woods and beginning to move in a somewhat easterly direction.
- Feel free to make any rolls you think might assist with travel, navigation and comfort/safety.
As Normont struggles with his belongings, he looks across to Quinn.
"Hey Quinn, don't suppose you fancy helping a gnome out with all this stuff?", he says with what he hopes is a winning smile.
Other than that he helps by using the Orb of Direction to keep them going the right way, and Amber flies amongst the trees keeping a birds eye view on proceedings.
Magnus will adjust the backpack on his back shifting it around and then start his trek through the forest along his companions, looking all around all the time as he is not really used to going on adventures through the countryside.
Nature: 15+3 (guidance): 18
He will also offer any guidance to the others as well if they need it.
Lokilia shakes her head at Quinn's attempts at navigation. She would accept Normont's assistance in trying to set a course for the group. (Survival: 19 + 1 = 20or 12 + 1 = 13 if Advantage)

Terrah is a place of stone, open space and crevasses, ravines and gullys......this place is....not that....the trees create an almost oppressive atmosphere for the sturdy Ashari stymieing his senses though he makes himself useful in other ways.

Magnus finds that though his practical knowledge is lacking his theoretical studies have actually prepared him quite well for the task of leading the companions through the oppressive forest...

Along with their new 'compass' and her success at reading the terrain she is able to find easier paths through the trees and they make good progress for the day.
As the companions travel they see a preponderence of animal life including small groups of roe deer, numerous blue jays and corvids who watch them with interest, capercaillie burst from cover breaking the relative quiet and at one point a number of the companions noted the group was being shadowed by a pack of wolves among them a number of darker pelt with broader shoulders and heads but the animals seemed merely curious and soon broke away....
About six hours into the trek the group came across a sudden gap in the trees, a broad meadow somewhat circular filled with a tumble of sundered, shattered and broken logs, branches and stumps and covered in thick clumps of blueberries and crowberries. Small trees were beginning to poke up through the undergrowth to one day fill the gap....
Dev follows along, his mind wandering to his parents and wondering how they are doing with Jasper’s help back home. When the companions arrive at the meadow, its round, empty shape seems to ring a bell from a story he once knew, but he can’t quite put a finger on it (Nature: 8).
“Maybe… there was a fire?” Are the tree trunks and branches charred?
“Ooh, blueberries…” He looks to Lokilia as his eyes linger hungrily on the nearest bush. “Do you think they’re okay to eat?”
Lokilia takes a look at the meadow and surroundings, trying to surmise what might have happened here. (Nature: 20) She gives Dev a smile as he asks her about the blueberries. "They certainly look good, but let's see if we can figure out more about the place first."

There does not seem to be any charring or blackened wood that Dev can make out.

Lokilia is able to determine that the berries are relatively ripe though most will be a little tart to taste......more importantly among the splintered and broken wood she begins to spot splintered and broken bone.....those she can make out appear to be an ulna, a scapula and a rib though each is longer than her they appear humanoid....she wonders if perhaps there was a fight here at some point in the past and she is looking at the loser....
With the information from Amber and following Lokilias line of sight it seems two....possibly more....very large things had a violent encounter here....probably sometime last year judging from the ageing of the dead wood.
Lokilia shares what she's noticed about bones. "The loser must have been quite large. So I'd imagine the opponent had to be really large or at least quite powerful. Probably should be cautious in case it is still about."
the berries are relatively ripe though most will be a little tart to taste
Dev tries to keep up with Normont, but since Lokilia raises no warning flag, the teenager can’t resist, and as he walks, picks berries and pops them into his mouth.
’Tart. Just like the cheap ones I get at home.,’ he thinks, and as he walks and chomps, his lips and tongue, transforming to vivid purple, soon give him away, although he will offer choice fruits to the others too, who notice his fingertips are soon also stained purple.
”They’re good!,” he beams to anyone who asks or looks at him askance.
Magnus thinks a moment, "As much as this place might be a good place to rest for the night, to be on the safe side we might want to move on. I am detecting a bit of necromatic energy still lingering around this clearing and gods knows what might happen in the middle of the night here."
Lokilia nods to Magnus, "We've a bit of time left in the day. Let's push on a bit and see if we can find a suitable spot for rest." Presuming the group does decide to move along, Lokilia would focus on finding a spot for the night's rest - secluded, comfortable, and unlikely to be in the midst of any wild beasts. (Survival: 20)

Normont looks to others as he survey the circular meadow.
"What do you think created this? Some logger perhaps? Although isn't it a bit far out from civilisation?", he asks the others.
He then motions for Amber to head up and take a look from the sky.
“These trees are all foreign to me, I don’t know why they do what they do.” Quinn says a little frustrated.

From above Amber is able to determine that the clearing is only roughly circular with the greatest damage towards the centre....

When he finds out the greatest damage is towards the centre, Normont's curiosity gets the better of him and he heads inwards.
"Amber says most damage it in the centre of the clearing", he says to the others as he walks, Amber now on his shoulder.
He looks about for any sign of what exactly this place used to be, and what happened to it.
