"Whatever caused this mess was very large. Well two or possibly even more very large things in truth. They could still be in the forest. It was probably last year it happened, so it could mean they hibernated for the winter", Normont says with a shrug.
"I guess winter is pretty much over now though. But I'm no expert in this sort of thing, so it's probably fine", he adds before heading off out the clearing with the others.
“What do you think our next plan of action should be? It may be dangerous to move forward in the clear with those things around but it also would take a lot longer to go around.”
"It was a long time ago, Quinn. Let's carry on until we have some evidence that these are close. I'll send Amber ahead a ways so we get an early warning", Normont suggests.
He then whispers to Amber in Gnomish, showing her the direction they will be travelling and asking her to go a couple of hundred feet ahead and circle so she always maintains view of the party when she is at the closest point in her loop.

Dev tries to picture creatures large enough to destroy an entire clearing. In his vivid imagination, the teenager begins to conjure a series of scenarios, each one more striking than the last. His berry chewing slows almost to a standstill as hill-sized bears and giant-sized giants wrestle in his thoughts.
As he walks, following Normont, he takes his pan-pipes in hand and whistles on them intermittently, each time creating an illusory image representing his imaginings in three dimensions.
’Mmmm… no, the bear should have a black stripe?’ With a swipe of his hand he dispels the image and tries again. ‘The trees need to be smaller to show how big the creatures are…‘
Such thoughts continue to fill his mind and soon he begins to quietly hum tunes and find words which tell the tales of these epic battles.
(Reminder that bardic inspiration is on the table for our party rolls as we wander.)
The group moves carefully forward through the clearing and back beneath the trees again, at the edge of the clearing Lokilia finds a human looking tooth about the size of her fist.
The companions march on and it begins to get dark and cold beneath the conifer boughs, eventually Lokilia discovers a small hollow that seems relatively safe and unoccupied where they could spend the night in relative comfort.
( Note if your setting watches and you will be doing which.)
"Perhaps from a giant?" Lokilia surmises about her find. She wonders if it seems like it might match those giant creatures they encountered on the road yesterday.
Once they find a place for the night, she sets up a comfortable spot to sleep. "Are we going to keep watches? Just let me know when."
(OOC - I think we should have a watch? Just have each of us take a turn? I'm not sure on an order. Lokilia I guess would offer to take the first as Magnus seemed to claim the last.)
Lokilia sits first watch and the night passes pleasantly enough with the tiny clockwork dragon nearby, Normont is woken and also sits watch seeing and hearing no sign of danger through the trees He wakes Magnus and heads to sleep.
Magnus sits his watch and prepares breakfast for the group as the sun rises, it takes a long time for the light to properly reach them through the thick trees but when it does Magnus is somewhat perplexed to find their hollow is surrounded by dozens of woven and daubed 'dolls' composed of sticks, feathers, pine needles and other flotsam all set up as if watching the companions sleep.....
Arcana: 9 (ooc, sigh, thank you again Dice Gods, you are so going to get me killed, like always.)
Half way through making breakfast Magnus finally looks up and around their clearing. Then he frantically goes around and wake the others up, "Ummm, yea we need to leave and leave now, I have no idea what those things are but they can't be a good sign." As he points out all the dolls surrounding them. "Anyone have any idea of what they might be or how much danger we are in?"
Dev awakens slowly most mornings, his hair a tangled mop and his mind not much better. But when Magnus shakes him awake in such a state of alarm, the teenager looks around wildly. When he spots the dolls, his droopy eyes pop open and he rubs them in curious disbelief.
What could have made and left so many dolls? And for what purpose? A warning? Guardians? A greeting? Or a joke? There was the time the other boys gathered together one night to wind toilet paper all over his house after he and his parents had gone to bed.
Maybe something is out there watching for the company’s reaction right now. Dev peers into the woods (Perception: 6), and seeing nothing, steps a little closer toward one of the dolls. Does it seem scary or friendly, or…?
Normont is also perplexed by the appearance the dolls, and if the others are willing to wait, will once again spend some time performing the ritual required to see magical auras.
Either way he will then examine one of the dolls, making sure not to touch it unless he is absolutely sure it is safe.
He will also send Amber on a fly around the camp, about 100 feet out to see if she spots anything watching them.
Investigation (possibly with Detect Magic if the group allows him the time): 8+5 = 13 (Passive: 15)
Lokilia sees the dolls about their resting place as she wakes and is rather mystified. She considers whether she knows of any natural things that might have somehow done this. (Nature: 22) It is however something that doesn't really look natural.

Lokilia knows of nothing in the region that would do such a thing....at least nothing from the material plane....she does however take in the bones woven through and recognises them as the bones of small rodents but rather the remains of beings such as sprites, quicklings and the like......she also notes that the local birds and insects are avoiding the dolls and the area around them....
"Odd, the dolls seem to contain the bones of sprites and quicklings, not animals. That is odd. And look at how the birds and insects are avoiding the area." Lokilia tells the others. She tries to follow what those animals are doing to see if there is a path from where the group is located to get past the dolls. Or are they completely hemmed in.

You are certainly not hemmed in the dolls form a rough semicircle and are easily moved past or stepped around.........

Normont marvels at the size of the tooth Lokilia finds.
"Well one thing is for sure, whatever owned that tooth will not be sneaking up on us", he says jovially.
He happily takes a turn on watch, and Amber will spend the entire night on watch as well.
Before turning in, he will also check out the area by ritually casting detect magic.
Magnus will ready his sleeping area and then hope to get a good nights sleep, mentioning for someone to wake him for the early watch.
Once woken up he will start to prepare a decent morning breakfast for the group.

"I suggest we move on quickly, and do nothing to cause whatever is following us to become aggressive".
With that he makes sure to pack his things and be ready to move out as quickly as he can.
