After Magical Physiologies, Guardok hangs back after class to talk to Professor Lang.
"I know you said you would get back to us next week about the transforming frogs, but I just wondered if you had found anything yet? I'm also a bit worried about the exam, I haven't done one before. Perhaps you could tell me what it will be like?", he asks, quite nervous about the exam. "What happens if we don't do so well?".
"No, nothing yet. I'm still trying to get a sample from that first incident," Professor Lang replies. "But we should have something next week sometime." She then gives Guardok a slight smile. "As for the exam, I of course cannot tell you everything about it. If you know the material though you should be fine. And we'll be reviewing next Friday. But there will be two sections, one with multiple-choice questions and another with short essay responses. Does that help at all?"
The green-haired girl continues to talk with Mae."Um... Monday?" Larine seems to perk up at the mention of an alternate day. "Oh, that sounds good. Sure. Monday." She then glances at the clock. "Ah! I should get going to make practice! But... yes. Well, perhaps we'll run into each other again then. See you Monday."
"A role... play," Mei blinks, realization dawning on her face with a grin. "With the gift of foresight, I should have seen that coming!" she laughs. "Well, then yes, I would love to hear about it. And come!"
As he mentions having dinner again, there's something about the "we" that rings differently. And the hesitation(?) about joining them all for dinner. Her brows arch upwards as she brushes back her cheek-length sidelocks to study his face. "We could... another time? If you'd rather?" She was fairly certain Cadoras was as extroverted as they come, but perhaps he was worried about being the odd-one-out amongst a group of roommates.
Cadoran's smile seems to get bigger when Meimentions 'another time'. "How about I meet with you tonight and we can discuss some other time?"
Mei mirrors his smile, contagious as it is. “Yes, okay! We’ve got some things to talk about with all the stuff going on and the attacks and that weird black goo, and then there’s the Dreams I’m having and whoever is in them that’s—“ she stops and swallows, then gesticulates wildly with her hands.
“Uh, actually, n-never mind all that! Um, see you at 6:30, then?” With a little wave, she backs away—backing into another student as she goes—and calls “I’ll save you a seat!” before hurrying off to find Malvyn.
Malvynhas not gone far and Meiquickly finds him. The pair of them head off across campus to find Mina Lee. They make their way to the offices of the Strixhaven Star, which Malvyn is quite familiar with. Mina Lee is not there, just Grayson Wildemere. "Mr. Darkhold and..." he pauses a moment, looking over Mei. "The sleepy student? Miss Fujimori right?" As you speak for a moment he indicates that Mina Lee will not be in until later. She is working a shift at the Firejolt Cafe at the moment.
The sleepy student? "Oh, well... that's fair, I suppose," Mei says with a blush and little laugh, before holding her hand out in introduction. "But just Mei is fine, Mr..." she looks to Malvyn, sure he's mentioned this name, "...Wildemere?"
As she glances around the office, she's sad to see that Mina is, indeed, not there. She defers to Malvyn whether he thinks Grayson could help them instead with access to the Star's archives or if they should just leave Mina a note.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Ah yes, Mr Wildemere is in charge of the gossip section of the Strixhaven Star." The purple-skinned Tiefling turns and explains to the petite oracle beside him in a respectful and polite tone. "Come to think of it, unless you already have all the information you need on this event we can give you some first hand recountings of what transpired yesterday at the Firejolt cafe, Miss Fujimori in particular found herself in the very midst of action." He continues to explain to Grayson. "We should perhaps go and see Mina Lee at the cafe then, but maybe you can help us sir. We are wondering if there is an archive for the Strixhaven Star that we could get access to. We're following up on things that could be a quite interesting story for the Star I believe." He says with a polite smile.
Guardok nods at the professor, but remains quietly contemplative. He will need to prioritise study to pass the exam. He cannot risk failing and being kicked out.
"Thanks", he mumbles as he turns and leaves. Whenever he starts to feel nervous or anxious, physical exertion always takes his mind off it. He decides to go and practice his gymnastics. Maybe he will run into Zanther too, he can often be found there.
Mae watched the curious green-haired girl run off suddenly with a somewhat bemused expression on her face, then began heading off back to her room to refresh before heading to rehearsals and dinner that night.
Before Malvyn left for the Stirxhaven Star office: Aurora smiles at Malvyn. "Of course I'll join you." She places a hand on the tiefling's shoulder as she takes a step in closer to him. "And Mal, last night was fine. I certainly enjoyed it. I sing late tonight too. But perhaps we could find some time together after?" She then starts to step away. "But we can talk about it tonight. Looking forward to it! Got to be getting to rehearsals soon."
"Archives," Grayson says. "We do indeed have archives. I believe that the past 5 years or so are kept here at our offices. Anything older than that would be in the Scriptoria. I can't say I'm all that familiar with how they are stored beyond those simple facts. There's not a lot of need to dig up old information when covering the current social scene." He then turns to Malvyn. "I should tell you, it seems that you might even make my column here soon. Rumors are you are dating one of the most interesting new performers this campus has seen in several years. Hard to believe."
He then turns towards Mei, giving her a thorough looking over. "I don't usually write about scuffles. I thought you would put together something about that Malvyn. But yes, I don't think I can make dozing through class into anything that would interest my readers at this point. But who knows, there's always a chance she might become interesting later."
Both Guardokand Maefinish up what they are doing after class and head off in their own directions. The aasimar is soon off to rehearsal while the genasi makes his way to the gymnasium.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Before Malvyn left for the Stirxhaven Star office:"Have a nice time at rehearsals." The purple-skinned Tiefling manages to respond, his cheeks a bit hot after the raven-haired performer mentioning spending time after her performance. He had to come up with something more than a nice evening walk he felt, perhaps he could ask someone for advice.
"Well thank you for those encouraging words Grayson..."The purple-skinned Tiefling says a bit dryly. He was right though. Even Malvyn himself, or rather, especially Malvyn himself, had a hard time believing, but comments like this would not discourage him, as far as he could tell Aurora was genuinely interested in him, for whatever reason he didn't quite understand yet but he didn't need to know, being with her felt good and he would at least enjoy it while it lasted. Whatever would happen later, well that would be a problem for another day, hopefully not in the near future. "...but I'm sure you will have more interesting things to write about than me though."
As Grayson comments on Mei, Malvyn is close to losing his temper though. "I don't think anyone suggested that you should write anything about anyone having trouble staying awake during class, it would be a common enough problem, and as you said, that should hardly interest your sophisticated readers Grayson." The purple-skinned Tiefling almost growls, his fiery red eyes flaring up with sudden anger. "I will write something about the scuffle then, I'm sure you have more important things to write about in your column."
Goosebumps prickle the backs of Mei's arms as Grayson looks her over, as though he can see all her secrets. They spread further at the change in Malvyn's tone. "Oh--ha! N-no, I assure you, Mr. Wildemere, I'm not interesting at all," she says with a soft touch to Malvyn's arm to dispel the tension. "Unless your readers have an interest in the best napping spots around campus!" The laughter that follows likely rings false to the tiefling's pointed ears.
With a bright smile, she says to the two student mages, "Well, I guess we should get to it, then! It was nice to meet you, Grayson! I look forward to reading your next column," then tugs on Malvyn's sleeve, encouraging their departure (either to find Mina if Malvyn thinks they should, or to check out the archives in the office).
Grayson doesn't say anything more after Malvyn's outburst. He gives a silent nod towards Meias it seems she's heading out. Then he turns back to the paper he was writing on when you came in.
As he feels the soft touch of the petite oracle and then the tug on his sleeve, the purple-skinned Tiefling calms down somewhat, shame over his outburst then washing over him like cold water and he quickly turns to leave without another word.
"I am sorry Mei..."He starts a bit awkwardly as they are outside and on their way towards the Firejolt Cafe. "...I...I have a temper...sometimes. I will get better at controlling it but with the sheltered existence I have had much of my life there has not been much reason to practice that. I'm sorry if I embarrased you in there, I just didn't like him talk like that to you." He continues in a quite apologetic tone. "I should have realized Mina was working at the cafe now, I'll just drop by and ask her a bit more about the archives before heading back to Dresar Hall, you don't have to keep me company if you prefer going back for a nap or something."He adds with a weak smile.
Mei shakes her head in refute of Malvyn’s apology. “You didn’t embarrass me, Mal. You stuck up for me,” she says, appreciation clear in her expression. “I was just worried he might take it out on you in the gossip column. If, well… hopefully he’s not the type to do that, but still.”
Thinking about his temper, she notes regretfully of his painful childhood, “I’m sure anger can be a tool for survival sometimes.” She offers an encouraging touch to his arm. “But I didn’t think you were… aggressive? Just… assertive! And that’s a much healthier means of expression! So… I’m proud of you!”
She walks alongside the Tiefling, clearly meaning to join him to the cafe. “Aaaannddd, I bet Aurora wouldn’t mind seeing that side of you sometime,” she grins up at him with a little blush. “A-assertive, I mean.”
"Should I be worried what he will write about me you mean? Will anyone even care what he writes about someone like me? I am no one, who would be interested in reading anything about me?"The purple-skinned Tiefling says, sounding quite doubtful, but perhaps the petite oracle had a point, Grayson might make problems for him if he was antagonized. "I will try to smooth things over with him."He adds after some thought.
"Assertive? Well that certainly sounds more flattering than aggressive. I will try to be assertive then, even though I have never considered myself very assertive." Malvyn says, blushing slightly and scratching his neck as Mei mentions being proud of him. "But thanks, I will try to remember your advice tonight then." He says, his tail giving the purple-haired dreamer a playful slap on the leg. "That green-haired elf that has shown interest in you, Cadoras, he seems like a likeable person."Malvyn continues as they near the Firejolt cafe, glancing down at Mei with curious eyes.
Mei squeaks then bats at Malvyn’s tail, laughing. “I think assertiveness must come with… confidence?” she wonders, catching the strap to her bag in her elbow as it slides off her shoulder. “Which makes sense! You’ve really blossomed here.”
As the tiefling mentions Cadoras, Mei looks back at him with curiosity to match. “Interest? You mean like..?” A whirl of butterflies take flight in her stomach and she rapidly waves her hands. “Oh no, he’s not—I-I think it’s more that, well… he’s just a really friendly person,” she reasons, hand pausing on the door to the cafe. “Like Guardok! He's probably like that with... everyone." Right? After a pause, she opens the door and heads in to the Firejolt.
The pair of Meiand Malvynhead into the Firejolt Cafe. It's fairly easy to spot Mina working at the counter, delivering drinks to the flow of patrons that are moving through the line. With most classes wrapping up for the day, the place is just about at its peak volume. Though it's not terribly packed.
The purple-skinned Tiefling coughs. "Blossomed? Really?" He glances down at the petite oracle. "Well thank you Mei, you are kind for saying so, although I'm not sure what you mean by that." He says with an awkward but polite smile. "I suppose I have at least learned some social codes since coming here if that is what you refer to." He continues, seemingly trying to brush off the flatter he percieved.
"Cadoras does seem to be a quite friendly person, even more friendly to some than others." Malvyn says with a small smile as he opens the cafe door to Mei, letting her in, then following her, looking over at the counter to see if Mina Lee is around.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Look, there she is."Malvyn says as he spots Mina behind the counter, quickly walking up to the side of the line. "Hi Mina, sorry to disturb you at work, I was wondering about the Star and it's archives. Can I have access to them, and if so, is there any way to efficiently search for information or do you simply read until you find anything interesting?" He asks with the fires of curiosity burning in his eyes.
