Mae kept quiet during it all, seeming to watch the fellow performers some but never really giving them her full attention perhaps. By the time the lute player shows up she excuses herself to go use the restroom.
@DM
If Mae gets away by herself, she will cast Disguise Self and turn into someone else and attempt to leave the tavern unnoticed. If she's followed to the restroom ignore this, she will come back to the table.
"No occasion", Guardok replies to Zanther, "Just an excuse to get together. There has been a lot going on after all. Like giant colourful frog attacks. Do you know anything about that?", he asks the Fire Genasi and trying to ignore all the flirting going on.
If Mei is flirting, she has no clue. But her expression is caught between horrified and impressed as Cadoras takes the combination of food that he does. "You're stomach much be made of cast iron," she laughs. She, however, doesn't say anything about sharing a fork being like an indirect kiss. Friends share things! Get your mind out of the gutter, Mei. And if he doesn't seem interested in the rest of the fowl, she shares it with her other friends as well.
Later as Mae excuses herself, Mei straightens and looks to the others. The worried pinch of her features asks if they think she should follow. She'd offered already--if Maeleve didn't ask for her company now, then perhaps she actually just needs to use the restroom or... she doesn't want it.
At the conversation about the frog attacks, Mei waits for Zanther's response then adds with a look to Cadoras, "We're fairly certain it's connected to the animated chest attack too. And it feels like they're going to continue, though the faculty doesn't seem very worried about it."
She thinks back to her conversation the night before. "Piero mentioned being able to... defend ourselves? I'm, um, trying to teach myself how to use a--" Mei retrieves the small scholar's knife strapped to her ankle and waves it around a bit haphazardly before making a practice stab with it, nearly impaling the remainder of the roast fowl. "Maybe a proper dagger would be better though?"
As Guardok brings up the topic of the incidents the discussion quickly gets Malvyn's full attention and he nods with some excitement as Mei mentions the incidents being connected. "Careful there Mei or you'll end up stabbing yourself." The purple-skinned Tiefling says with a mix of amusement and concern. "Don't take this the wrong way but perhaps you should stick to magic if we get into trouble, that is what I will do at least. I'm sure our master fencer Guardok can fend off any aberrations off if needed." He then turns and says to the earth genasi with an encouraging smile.
At Malvyn'scomment, Aurora gins. "Oh! There is more than dessert?" she says teasingly. After Maegets up to the restroom, her eyes dart over briefly to glance at her, then catches as Meiis essentially doing the same. She shrugs almost imperceptibly, then returns her attention to the tiefling. "I'm sure the dessert will be amazing Mal. As I'm sure you are as well."
Zanther continues talking to Guardok. "Oh yes! I was at the Firejolt when they started attacking! Colorful little frogs one moment, then giant monsters the next." He starts nodding his head. "Yes, I see why you all might be taking a break tonight to just relax. I should be be buying you a drink my friend! You kept us all safe!" It takes a bit, but eventually his heaping plate of food is brought to him. "Ah, a bit of fuel to keep me going."
Having decided that the fowl and cake is not too bad of a combination, Cadoras continues to combine the two. He perks up when Meimentions about the chest. "The frogs and the chest are connected? Wow! I thought they'd said that thing with the chest was just a freak accident." He looks around at the group of roommates. "You guys are really digging into this? Like detectives or something!"
The elf is a bit surprised as Mei brandishes the knife. He chuckles at Malvyn's cautionary comment. "Aw, she seems like a regular swashbuckler to me!"
“I’m not certain you need to buy the drinks Zanther, but I might get myself one of these fancy cocktails they do here”, Guardok replies, then sees Mei waving her knife around and speaking of getting a proper dagger.
He blushes when Mal calls him a master fencer. “I do hope to be master sword dancer one day”, he confesses. “And I could absolutely teach you how to handle a dagger without hurting yourself, Mei”, he says slightly concerned.
”The basics are quite simple though. Stick ‘em with the pointy end. Just like you did to that roast fowl”, he says with a chuckle.
"I just... I don't have any offensive magic. And when I exhaust my arcane energy, I'm pretty much useless, you know?" Mei sighs, not at all offended by Malvyn's suggestion, but painfully aware of her own limitations. "But you don't need magic to swashbuckle," she smiles at Cadoras then Malvyn and Knap. "Or headbutt things with your horns! I don't think I'll ever forget Knap coming to my rescue head first like that."
As Guardok offers to teach her, Mei's expression brightens. "R-Really? Are you sure you wouldn't mind? I wanted to ask you before, but I know everyone's so busy and you've got the play and gymnastics and exams and it'd just be one more thing and--" she slaps her hand over her mouth, nearly nicking her cheek with the glorified letter opener, but shushing her onslaught of words. "Thank you. Lesson one: pointy end. Understood!"
"Perhaps you should simply stick to spoons until given proper training with pointy things." The purple-skinned Tiefling says with another chuckle as Mei nearly stabs herself again. He considered asking to join the others for some self defense instructions but he at least had mastered calling upon eldritch force to fend off dangers and the time spent on teaching fencing would most likely be wasted on him. "Considering what Mei has told us about her dreams we should prerhaps all expect more incidents, so preparing for that sounds like a good idea." Malvyn continues in a more serious tone. "I can't help but feel we should spend more time at the tavern so we will be first on the scene if, or rather when, something happens in the kitchen beyond cooking."
“Defensive, offensive, sympathetic, apotropaic or whatever way magic moves your heart, we’ll be great. I wish we could just prestidigitate these problems away, but it might take a bit more elbow grease than that. And to look out for each other.”
”as for the horns, they’re not just for making one dashingly handsome” Knap winks playfully at Mei then turns to Malvyn, “isn’t that right Malvyn” and back to Mei “but they also get me out of conundrums now and then.”
"Yes, let's have each others backs, only as a team we will see this through."The purple-skinned Tiefling says in agreement with his room mate and raises his glass. He then smiles as the Satyr mentions his horns make him look dashing. He couldn't argue with that, Knap wore them with confidence and elegance, much unlike himself who, until recently at least, was only embarrased by them, the physical attrbute that more than others revealed him to be a lowly devil-spawn, and he had never even considered using them to get himself out of conundrums, maybe he should take a page out of Knap's book there he thought to himself with an amused smile. "It would certainly take someone quite brave to charge head first into a magical giant frog Knap." Malvyn says with an apprceiative smile, raisning his glass again before taking a sip of his red wine.
Mei gives Malvyn a sheepish grin and puts the scholar's knife away. To Cadoras and Zanther, she says with a hint of worry in her tone, "You'll be careful too, right? Keep an eye out?"
Regarding the talk of horns, Mei pulls a card from her deck--the Magician--and lays it on the table before tracing the sigils with a fingertip. "Do you mean all the handsome and bravery is stored in the horns? Maybe I should join the horn club then." In lyrical Sylvan, Mei incants and an arcane butterfly rises out of the card and flutters to the diviner's nose before dissipating in a lavender shimmer. As it fades, Mei now wears a faun-like disguise.
Beaming, she raises her glass of water (wishing it were a cocktail) and cheers, "To horns, the pointy end, and doing this together!"
Her eyes briefly flit in the direction of the restroom, wondering if she should go check on Maeleve. She'll simply have to do another cheers when Mae returns!
"Alright, if I can't buy you a drink then let me join you for a drink!" Zanther tells Guardok. "Though just one for me. Fine to enjoy a drink but I'm all about moderation." He signals trying to get the attention of a waitress.
"Hey! I could teach you to use a bow," Cadoras adds to the discussion of teaching Mei to be a swashbuckler. He then looks at Guardok, "You think you could teach me to be a swashbuckler too? I don't care about using a real weapon. I just want to look cool for the Live-Action Roleplays." He gives the earth genasi a smile.
Aurora gives Malvyna slight smile as he suggests spending more time at the tavern. "Mal, is it possible for you to spend more time here? Seems like you're here a lot!" She chuckles but then gets a bit more serious. "Not that I don't appreciate it." She places a hand on his arm. "I'm sure we'll all be fine here though."
When Mei asks Zanther and Cadoras whether they'll be careful both nod. Zanther replies enthusiastically. "If we all just keep an eye out for each other then we'll all be perfectly safe!"
As everyone is speaking, you all notice Pierowalk over to the table. "Is this where we were supposed to meet? Yes, I know I'm late."
@Mae
It seems clear that nobody followed you when you left for the restroom. Disguising yourself, you are easily able to slip out of the tavern and into the evening chill.
"Of course I don't mind helping anyone, for whatever reason. As an actor I understand wanting to make your performance convincing, Cadoras", Guardok replies. "Maybe you could both help me do well in the exam coming up too?", he asks of pair wanting tuition in swordsmanship.
When Mei grows horns, he can't help but chuckle and drop a little embarrasment grenade, "They really suit you Mei. Now we know what yours and Knapp's kid would look like". He does raise his apple cider and repeats her toast as well.
When Zanther orders a cocktail, he will follow suit.
"Hey Piero, no worries. Some of us are just getting a cocktail", he replies to Piero, his empty plate evidence enough he has already eaten.
"Oh I don't doubt you can take care of yourself..."The purple-skinned Tiefling answers with a small smile. "...but better safe than sorry, and I would prefer to be early on the scene when Mei's dream...um...comes true."He adds with an awkward smile. "But as you say, I would most likely have been here anyway." He cintinues after a moment with a small chuckle.
As the oracle changes appearance, Malvyn is at first surprised, but then he smiles. Maybe horns weren't that bad after all, better than sharp teeth...and sharp nails...and fiery-red eyes...and a long tail...
Malvyn can't help but chuckle at Guardok's comment, his fiery-red eyes looking between Mei and Knap, hoping they wouldn't find it too awkward.
As Piero arrives, the Tiefling raises his glass to greet him. "Yes, good of you to join us Piero, we were just talking about the investigation and that Mei has had a dream about something sinister happening in the tavern kitchen. Did you find anything out when reading that book?" He asks curiously with a friendly smile.
"K-kid!?" Mei nearly chokes on her water, her illusory form flickering in and out as she scrambles for a handkerchief. Dabbing at her wet chin, she narrows her eyes in a so that's how we're going to play it? then pitches the cloth at him with a jingle of laughter. (To hit: 15 LOL)
When he next looks at her, she wears a bright grin and a new Disguise: one with gem-like amethyst hair and a stone-like pattern in place of freckles. And a very familiar looking pair of turquoise eyes that watch for his reaction with a two can play it, then. It's her representation of what his kid could look like.
That look turns to surprise when Piero appears, seeming like a child caught red-handed by a much-more-serious peer adult as she drops the illusion with a blush.
Cadoras immediately gives Guardoka nod. "I could certainly study with you. No guarantees that will help you pass though! But I'll try!" The elf immediately gets a laugh out of Mei'svarious disguises. "Quite a show! Will I get to see what my child would look like?" he asks. Though as he sees Meisuddenly drop the with a glance over to Piero, he does quiet his laughter.
Aurora greets Piero as well when Malvyngreets him. "Ah, I'd love to hear what all Mei had to say. As far as the book, there were a few interesting tidbits, but not anything particularly helpful for our situation."
Guardok sees the handkerchief sailing towards him. As it hits him, he pitches back off his chair as if it were a brick, and tumbles backwards unable to help a little giggle escaping.
"Ooh, very regal. Perhaps a little tall for my offspring mind", he says as he pops up to look over at Mei in her new disguise, waving her handkerchief like a surrender flag.
He then looks to Piero. "If it's interesting, might be worth sharing anyway?", he suggests as he too tries to put a pin in the frivolity.
"Yes, and another thing, while we study to our exam on Slaadi I would suggest keeping in mind the colourful frogs we fought and the reptilian footprint we found, I can't shake the feeling this is more than a coincidence." The purple-skinned Tiefling says with a hint of excitement.
"Take care though, slaadi are aberrations while frogs are simple beasts," Piero says. "I suppose the affected frogs were colored and slaadi are too, but calling them similar seems a stretch." He turns to Malvyn, "I would just hate for you to be misled on your exam."
He then turns to Guardok. "Well, if you must know, it had a few tidbits about transmutation spells. There are various ways transmutations can be subverted - here in Arcaivos the snarls and star arches can do such things." He pauses a moment, thinking it over. "Things like Wild Magic and I think it mentioned some forbidden magics can cause strange effects too. But that would be more if this were some random happenstances. That seems unlikely with this black substance you keep finding."
Mae kept quiet during it all, seeming to watch the fellow performers some but never really giving them her full attention perhaps. By the time the lute player shows up she excuses herself to go use the restroom.
