As the class comes to a close, Professor Lang urges everyone that all work need to stop and papers be turned in immediately. "Results should be posted tomorrow after class. We will of course be moving along to our next topic, so read up if you haven't already!" Of course, most of the students had already turned in their exam, but a handful of stragglers rushed to get them in at the end. There is a murmur of discussion as students file out of the room.
Mei is amongst the stragglers, having nodded off during the short essay portion of the exam. In a hurried scrawl, she finishes her responses, having just enough time to make sure her handwriting is in a legible state.
She lingers at the desk, staring hard at her packet as though willing it to contain a passing grade, then gently sets it atop the stack before searching for her friends.
Malvyn is at first struggling with the first part, but then, recalling what he and his study buddies had discussed during their study sessions he gets into a better flow. He is working to check his answers up until time is called and he quickly gathers up his papers and leaves them at Professor Sharpbeak's desk. He then marches out, taking a big breath as he's outside the classroom, then looking around for Aurora and his flatties.
Knap delivers his papers a little unsure about the facts but reckons he got the vibe right. Trying to teach sparrows spellcraft somehow honed his sense of cross species communication.
outside the classroom Knap gives everyone a two thumbs up. He keeps quiet almost scared to jynx the outcome.
Guardok is very upbeat leaving the classroom after handing in his exam, finding a lot of nervous energy has built up as he had to sit still for so long.
"That wasn't so bad. I mean, I would have been done for without all the help studying, but for a first exam I was expecting worse", he says to the others. It doesn't occur to him that he might not have done well enough, and the results are yet to come.
Mae looks for Larine as they leave but otherwise has a look of tired confidence as she simply begins walking back toward Dresar Hall, and her otherwise usual daily activities.
Mei beams at Guardok, relieved to hear good news about his first exam. "You worked hard," she says, giving him an encouraging little nudge. "Eight of pentacles, remember?"
"Thoouugghh... I think study group saved my rear too," she admits with a nervous giggle. To the rest of their congregation, she asks, "How did it go for you guys?"
"Decent, I think, and I can only agree, the study group definitely helped me, with the first part in particular."Malvyn says with a somewhat relieved smile as he joins his friends. "We have to keep the study group going, at least it should revonvene before the next exam." He says with a hopeful look. "Something tasty at the Firejolt cafe to celebrate perhaps?"
Aurora comes up to Malvyn. "So? Think you survived your first exam?" she asks. Rubina is alongside her, a smile on her face. "It really didn't seem too hard," she adds.
Larine catches up with Mae, walking with her off towards Dresar Hall. "Ah! Those essays were tough! But I'm just glad it's over."

In class the next day, Professor Lang starts right in on your new topic - Monstrosities. "They are not ordinary, not truly natural, and almost never benign. Some are the results of magic gone awry, and others are the product of terrible curses. In some cases though it ends up as a catch-all category when we aren't quite sure a creature fits any other type." She continues until just a few minutes before the end of class. "Students, as you head out the exam results are posted on the wall. I was pleased, I think this was a very decent showing for our first exam. Keep up the good work!" She then dismisses the class.
There's a bit of a rush as many hurry to see what was posted. A few students seem to show more indifference and slowly pack up their things and are slower to go and look. You note Piero had moved quickly to the postings then headed out. Zanther and Cadoras were among those hanging back a bit.

Mae nudges Larine lightly as they walk off together. "Oh? I rather liked the essay portion. I dislike the multiple choice, those answers all look the same! But I still did well enough it seems, so that's good. But do we really have to learn about monstrosities now? Sounds terrifying."
"The slaadi seemed like monstrosities! Wonder what we'll hear about this time?" Larine says. There's a smile on her face as she walks along with Mae. "You did so well on that exam too! I'm just glad I passed."
Seeing Cadoras and Zanther hanging back, Mei tugs lightly on Guardok's sleeve and nods her head towards his fellow genasi, wondering if he might like to talk to him. She's quite certain there's no one better to lift Zanther's spirits if he needs it. She herself joins the green-haired roleplayer at his desk to help pack up his things. Though, in truth, she does little more than play with his quills and papers as her own nerves over the results have her fidgeting.
"Are you worried?" Mei asks, accidentally smudging a bit of ink on her uniform. She leans forward to peek up at Cadoras' face, hoping to read his expression. She realizes she has no idea what pressure he might be under. Does he have strict parents? A community counting on him at home like Guardok and Knap? Hold himself to high standards like Malvyn and Piero and Quentillius? Maybe like Mae? Or perhaps he's not worried about it at all.
Cadoras looks up as Meiapproaches. Hearing her question, a big smile comes to his face. "What? Why would I possibly be worried?" His smile fades though rather quickly. "Yea, those questions were tough. Red and blue and grey and death. I mean, what color if death? And then the essay... well, actually that was probably ok. But, well, I guess I have to go see what the final verdict is eventually."
Mei's heartbeat quickens at sight of that big smile. Covering her own reaction, she laments with lighthearted dramatics, "Aah, everyone had an easier time with the essay part! Was it just me who struggled?" She ducks her head slightly and admits, "Though... it probably didn't help that I fell asleep."
"Do you want to go look, um, t-together?" she asks. "If we didn't do well, we could always drown our sorrows back at the lounge after! Or saturate our joy if we did," she laughs.
Whenever he's ready, she'll join him and the others at the results posting, proposing they have a little mini celebration/pity party in the lounge for finishing their first exam.
"Sure! That'd be great!" Cadoras says to Mei. He puts an arm on her shoulder and walks with her over to see if he can find his name. "Wait, is my name even on there?" he asks after taking a brief glance. "Oh, ok. Passed!" he says raising his fist into the air as though he'd just won a prize.
Guardok also declines Malvyn's offer of a visit to the Firefly after the exam, already having a surplus of nervous energy. He instead decides to go and practice.
After class, Guardok is excited to leave and find out his grade, but when Mei nudges him he looks across to his genasi friend. Nodding at Mei, he trots across.
"You all good Zanther? Nervous about the result, or just trying to avoid the crowd? I mean, you normally love a crowd, right?", he says light heartedly.
He is fidgety himself, eager to go and see how he did, which Zanther would surely spot.
Mei goes stiff at the touch, any thoughts or concerns about the results taking flight from her mind like doves from a birdcage. She's quite certain her body temperature rises at least six degrees. Eventually, she has the wherewithal to look for her name as well, staring with the failed section. She lightly drags a finger down the list and sighs with relief when she doesn't see it. When she does find it, amongst her other floormates' in the aced section, she springs upwards in surprised delight, nearly headbutting Cadoras in the chin.
"We did it! We all did it!" she cheers, jumping again to try and reach Cadoras' fist in the air like a high-five, though at five foot-nothing she likely comes up short. "And Knap, you--KNAP!" Her head whips around, looking for the satyr, fully planning on glomping him in congratulations for top marks.

Knap then quickly pops his head back into the classroom, “thanks professor Sharpbeak” he squeals.
