The pointed ears of the purple-skinned tiefling gets pointier still with the mention of the beholder, a powerful aberration from the realm of nightmares, something he had encountered more than once in his quite particular reading. He doubted having it used in a game would give the impressive creature it's proper respect though. There was something about art that caught his attention. While he knew next to nothing about it, he could somehow see himself finding it worthwhile, but he doubted he would ever master it, in fact he doubted himself of many things. "I need to be mindful of my studies but if I find the time I'm certainly interested." Malvyn says to the Elf with a sincere smile.
As Guardok starts handing out small pennants, it takes a moment for the purple-skinned tiefling to realize the genasi had already found their prize for this location. "Good work Guardok..." Malvyn says with a calm and friendly smile, accepting an offered Lorehold Pennant and putting it into his shoulder bag. "...I suppose we are all finished up with the scavenger hunt then. Maybe report to the infomation desk and start looking for Piero?" He suggests, looking around at the other floories.
The mention of fine arts grabs Mei's attention as she snaps her sketchbook closed and cradles it against her chest. She steps further into the gallery and opens her mouth to both introduce herself to the Elven student and ask after the society, but then realizes the group seems to have completed the scavenger hunt.
"Well done, team," she softly cheers with an excited little hop, a smile blooming across her face. "I think that was a rather fun way of getting to know the Biblioplex." She shuffles closer, boots now bunny slippers again as the spell reaches the end of the magical thread she'd tied around them, and crouches next to the box with Guardok. She waits to receive a pennant just to be sure which one is meant for her, as undecided as she is, and notes, "A hunt for Piero next sounds like a great idea. I do hope he's alright."
The artwork is no doubt impressive, but in general it leaves Mellori cold. If one showed a famous historic event, that might pique her interest, but bowls of fruit or portraits were simply not her thing. But she gladly takes the pennant - as her side of the room is currently completely bare.
"That was fun,"she shared with the team. "But I suspect that finding Piero will be a tougher ask than the treasure hunt. Oh, and I must fill in the form for a job in the Biblioplex."
Guardok distributes the pennants to the others. And then the group starts to slowly walk out from the gallery to check in at the Information Desk and then perhaps find Piero. As you emerge though you all notice a commotion coming from the stacks ahead of you and to the left. The joyous and energetic atmosphere of the first floor is shattered by panicked shouting.
“That trunk!” a young elf screams, pointing toward the stacks as she runs by. “That trunk has teeth! Please, anyone, stop it!”
Chaos erupts in the library as students stream in all directions, their books and papers flying as they shout in fear. The only faculty mages in sight are trying to deal with panicked students and then move out of sight. In the study area, where the Live-Action Roleplaying Guild had been setting up, you glimpse a half dozen trunks strewn all about. Sheets, blankets, and wooden frames are strewn everywhere.
The sketchbook clatters to the ground and Mei grasps at her head, doubling over in pain as the Dream hits her like a psychic lance. Tears blur her vision and she tries to blink through them to see something that's landed at her feet.
The sketch of the darkness with teeth.
She knew. She knew and she didn't warn anyone. She could've--she should've--
It's my fault.
With one eye winced shut against the pain, she straightens. Her shaking hand flips open the lid to her cards.
"This is a part of orientation, I just know it!. Pffft, you call those teethe?!" Knap smiles wildly/widely and lets out a growl which is more of a trilling purr.
The screams, the erupting chaos and then the sight of the monstrous abomination gets the purple-skinned tiefling's heart pounding with fear, glancing over at Mei, seeing her distress, remembering the drawing in her sktchbook, the maw in the darkness...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The tranquility and serenity of her time at Strixhaven had to be broken at some time. But this literally smashed it...into tiny pieces...then stomped all over the broken pieces.
"Oh my," was all Mellori could muster. She'd used magic a-plenty, but never in this context. But she reacted without further thought and prepared to stop the marauding trunk.
The group is roughly 30 ft. from the Mimic at this point. There is a human student who looks like he must have tripped over some of the jumbled items strewn about. He's on his feet, but only 5 ft. from the creature.
(Mellori and Chara are up! I'll resolve actions in initiative order, but they can post in any order otherwise.)
Chara flies well out of the horrible monster's attack range and stares at it in horror. But she snaps out of it quickly as she realizes another student is in danger!
"Just get away from that thing, we'll keep it busy!"she yells down to the student.
Movement: Flying about 15 feet in the air (assuming there's room to do so)
Action: Cast eldritch blast. Attack: 18, Damage: 4 (Force) + 5 (Necrotic, from hex). Rolled in game log because I'm tired of the forum messing up my my rolls.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
If the mimic tries to attack the student (either on its turn or through an attack of opportunity), Mei will use Silvery Barbs through her Fey Touched feat to impose disadvantage and give Mae advantage on the next attack roll, ability check, or saving throw she makes within 1 minute.
Mellori knows what to do, and she even knows how to do it, but she has never cast magic in a combative manner before and so stands there for a few moments before finally acting - casting the first offensive spell that comes to mind.
Mellorimanages to strike first, the mote of fire that she sends towards the toothy creature hitting its mark. Charaflies up out of range (No danger of running into the 50 ft high ceiling!) and the beam of energy she created also strikes true.
The Mimicindeed tries to strike at the human student near at hand. (Pseudopod Attack: 17 Damage: 9) (Bite Attack: 16 Damage: 12)
The Mimicmanages to hit with its pseudopod, despite Mei'sefforts, as well as bite the human student's leg. The pseudopod adheres to the boy's shoulder and arm so that he is grappled.
(Everyone else may take their turns now. Maehas advantage from Mei's spell.)
Mae looks almost disappointed for a moment, but then shrugged slightly and took a Prismari flag and stuck it in her bag as well.
