Mei bundles up the leftover snacks to send with Guardok, along with her thanks and a grateful smile for the help. She makes a mental note of the different dialect this time--the sounds more fluid and flowing than the Primordial he used before, then picks up the tray with a bit of a wobble. Perhaps she should reconsider trying to get a waitressing job.
Bowing her head slightly at the rest of the group, she gestures with the tray, "Thank you for, um... for indulging me. I'm just going to finish settling in, but if anyone needs anything, you know where to find me," and gives a little wave as she exits the room. She pops her head back in for just a moment to add, "I hope you have a nice stroll, Malvyn," before disappearing out of view again.
(Looking for whether anyone is going with Malvyn? If not, what are characters going to do? Since it appeared everyone was going to dinner, I did figure we'd play that out.)
Mae will go back to her room and rest until close to dinner time and then leave to meet up with everyone.
Mellori's brow knits momentarily. Go with Malvyn, or read two brand new books? She hopes she doesn't have to make such tough choices on a daily basis. "Given it is closed, I think I'll go back to my room and do a little reading before the meal. But tomorrow, I'd be delighted to spend as much time as is possible in there."
With that, she returns to her room and picks up both books, wondering which to read first. Finally she plumps for the fiction - it is a new place, so why not pick up a new habit?
With everyone else heading back to their rooms to unpack, rest, or read, Malvyn is the only one heading out to see the campus. He heads for the Levitation Disk. (Also, apologies to Chara - not sure you've posted yet, but going to move things along here and you can catch up.)
The two hours pass fairly quickly. The fourth floor stays fairly quiet, though still the sounds of laughter, conversations, and even sometimes music filters in muffled from other floors. You notice (Or perhaps you don't notice!) that it is very nearly 7pm.
Mae spends her couple hours of free time resting and gently tapping out rhythms on her drum, and trying to imagine what the school year was going to bring. While she had some basic instruction as a child, her natural talent for performance had quickly taken over her life and thrust into the public spotlight. She hadn't minded really, she had a tutor that helped her along with some basic learning and navigating the performing scene, but this was entirely new. Her wizard friend had helped her understand a few basics about magic, but to think of an entire school dedicated to learning and practicing magic, she had never dreamed or considered such a thing! And truly, if it hadn't been for a couple of unfortunate incidents recently she might have put off coming to Strixhaven, but such as it was the opportunity presented itself and she knew better than to let an obvious opportunity slip by.
She occasionally listened along with the faint music from around the hall and campus, fascinated by the new music she was introduced to, and hoping she would be able to learn more to add to her repertoire. She was nearly lost in herself when we heard the bells chime outside and realized it was nearly time to meet her floor-mates, so she got up, brushed her hair out quickly, adjusted herself, picked up her satchel and flute, affixing it to her side, and went out to the levitation disk to wait for her turn to ride down and head toward the dining area.
Room 403 felt stark to the Satyr. Knap unpacks the rest of his things, which wasn’t much. A shield and staff lean at the door-side (on his side of the room.) Pen and ink on the desk. I wonder if I was meant to bring paper? He pulls out a book of poetry rolled-up in the back pocket of his 3/4 length (to show off his calves) olive green corduroys. “The Savage Sonnets By Mogak Batul'' written in Orcish scrawl across the cover. Too many under appreciate the finesse of Orcish song. Knap places the books on the desk alongside his wand which was tucked through a loop in a finely woven belt made of stringy-bark. The wand is not crafted like most would expect of such an intricate instrument. It’s more of a plain but sturdy stick with two leaves sprouting at one end. On the shelves above he places a lunch box tin somewhat depleted from the journey to Strixhaven and his little windowsill ritual. The few other things Knap owns he squeezes under the bed. And, on the floor at the end of the bed, Knap unfolds his bedroll, a circular mat, almost nestlike. There, now, he curls into a tight ball daydreaming…
Gotta’ be time for dinner soon. He takes a moment doing the ‘downward dragon stretch’ and slowly rises to his feet in a ‘moon salutation’. He returns the wand and book of poetry to their usual stations by his side and exits for the hallway.
“Oh. Hi Mae!” It dawns on him he had gotten names wrong earlier. “Did you manage to get some rest?”
Mei had been delighted to see Mellori pick up the fiction book and, hoping to catch any little reactions the other wizard might have to the story, she sat against her roommate's bed on the floor, her own book on spell and scroll transcription balanced upon her knees.
Eventually, she'd gotten up to change into casual clothes for the evening, dressing in a pale lavender tunic dress with flowing sleeves, the hem of which rests just above her knees. She cinches the waist with a soft leather obi belt and re-plaits her hair into one thick side braid. As she was changing--seemingly unbothered by doing so in front of her roommate--she also picked out a few options to show Mellori, assuring her that she's welcome to borrow clothes or accessories any time.
But if the bells now chime for dinner, Mei does not hear them--no longer conscious, nor truly even anchored within her own body at all as she drifts amongst the threads of the Weave to past, present, and future in her dreams. Her cheek rests atop the recently-fixed and still-wet Unseen Servant card on the desk, one of the new sigils smeared by her chin (likely a similar mishap that caused the mistake in the first place). She murmurs in her deep sleep--something nonsensical about a girl with dying stars for eyes and a child born under a blood moon. It seems quite apparent that, unless woken, she'll sleep through the rest of the evening.
Guardok spends the time before dinner unpacking his limited amount of things, which mostly consists of various kinds of musical instruments, which he places on the shelves on his side of his dorm room. He decides to change out of his brightly coloured costume into something more subdued for the evening, just a pair of breeches and a shirt. He hangs up his two circus costumes and his school uniform in his wardrobe.
Without a room mate to talk to, he passes the time either strumming his lute or lyre, or performing stretching exercises.
As the time gets closer to dinner, and he has been counting down the moments, he goes and gets washed up and then makes his way out to the levitation disk. He makes sure to take his maracas, and as he walks down the corridor he does a little conga like dance with accompanying percussion.
"It is time for dinner, it is time for dinner", he sings softly as he half dances along, repeating it over and over until he bumps into someone.
Mellori was something of a paradox right now. On one hand she was a natural book-worm who was used to her own company and very comfortable with it. Yet here she was, making an effort to be part of a group of strangers. This was in part due to her parents’ counsel – but something else too. Something was stirring within her. Not that she was fully aware of it and certainly could not put a name to it. It was about belonging. Belonging to a group of like-minded individuals, for the first time in her life she was beginning to feel as though she was meant to be where she was.
Not that any of this distracted her from her book. She was a fast reader and devoured the pages – the salacious elements of the story almost passing her by. She was fascinated by the references to life where the protagonist lived, the language they used and their effortless social interaction.
She was therefore oblivious to Mei changing – not that Mellori had any intention of wearing anything other than her Strixhaven clothes whilst on campus. Her own meagre garb reflected her background and – if closely scrutinised – had the faint whiff of fish.
Mei occasionally broke through her focus to suggest an item or two to wear. Mellori nodded politely, eager to return to the story.
But she acutely heard the bell for dinner and did not want to be late. Glancing up, she saw Mei was oblivious this time and so set her book down gently and woke Mei from her slumber.
“Huh?” Mei murmurs, lifting her head with some effort off the desk. The card comes with, stuck to her face, before she pulls it off and tucks it back into her holster, unaware of the arcane sigil now inked on her cheek. “Oh. We should—,” a great yawn seizes her but she speaks through it, “gooooo. Dunwanna be late.”
In a daze, she rises from her chair and gives Mellori a heavy-lidded smile and nod, then follows the other wizard out into the hall with a sleepy shuffle.
Mae looked over Knap first and waved shortly. "Hello again, Knap. Did you enjoy your bit of time to relax? I wonder what they'll serve for dinner." She looked over at the disc area and then back at the approaching others. "Looks like most of us are going to be on time!" She afforded a small giggle.
Knap greets Mae and Guardok soon joins them as they go down to the dining hall. There they find a low murmur of activity. The room where they'd signed in is now filled with tables, chairs, and students with trays of food. Some eating, some looking for seats, and some finished and heading out.
There are plenty of seats, and you see near the kitchen there is an array of items being served. It looks to be quite the variety, but hard to tell from afar.
Mellori manages to rouse Mei, with her oddly decorated cheek. The two head down, quickly spotting the other three roommates.
Chara spent the past couple of hours putting away her cloths, arranging her shelves, etc., and got kind of wrapped up in trying to make her half of the room feel like her own space. It was a few minutes after 7 when she suddenly realized that it was time for dinner!
"Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh!" the extremely flustered devilspawn exclaims as she practically trips over herself making her way to the table as quickly as she can. "I'm so sorry I'm late! I totally lost track of the time! Did I miss anything important?"

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
"Hey Chara, we pretty much just got here as well", Guardok replies as he struggles to look around for an empty table with enough seats for them all to sit together. "Shall we grab a table while we wait for Malvyn? I wonder if he managed to get into the Biblioplex".
He starts to make his way over to a free table.
"Piero still hasn't turned up. It's strange to worry about someone you've never met".
Into the dining hall with quick steps comes the other missing tiefling, looking a bit worried at first but then his expression changes into a calm smile as he notices his floor mates all gathered by a table at the other end of the hall. The purple-skinned tiefling quickly makes his way over there to find a seat with the others. "Apologies, I got caught up listenining to music." He says, looking around at the others, waiting to actually sit down until all the girls have, even offering to pull out a chair for any girl that happened to find herself to his right. He had read up a bit on etiquette in the tenday before leaving Baldur's Gate to compensate for his total lack of experience with having a meal with more than one other person, an older man at that. "I hope everyone had a nice rest." He adds, looking around at the others with a polite smile.
Only now does Mellori realise that Mei has something on her cheek. Something that looks distinctly like a sigil. Making the calculations quickly, she realises what happened. But, being Mellori, she knows only one approach to the issue. "Mei,"she says, her voice in no way lowered. Then she points to her own cheek. "I think when you fell asleep in our room, some ink must have made its way onto your face."She smiles, in what she hopes is a reassuring manner.
Mae half laughs at the recent arrivals, warm golden tones bubbling up from inside the tall blonde. "Oh it's no worry at all, as they said, we've only just arrived ourselves!"She looks over where the food is being served, "I suppose we go over there for our portions? I don't think they really spelled this out very well." She stopped suddenly and giggled, "Spelled, get it?" She laughed once at her own amusement before striding over toward the food area and looking around for instructions or someone to ask more specifics about the process.
(Perception if needed: 9. She's too hungry to notice much besides food I guess!)
Before Knap almost just about takes the seat offered by Malvyn, instead calls out “Mae, wait for me! This looks confusing. Let’s fumble through it together.” Knap follows behind Mae while also trying to perceive a queue and what direction it flows.
Mid-yawn, still half-asleep, Mei blinks at Mellori. "Ink? On my--... Goodness, thank you!" She pulls her lavender sleeve over her hand and proceeds to wipe at the wrong cheek. "Did I get it?" She didn't get it.
Seemingly noticing their group for the first time, she says with a sleepy smile, "Oh, hi everyone. Our first dinner together," still absently rubbing at the wrong cheek. "Well, almost all together. I hope Piero turns up soon, Guardok. Maybe I could--" she considers consulting the cards about their whereabouts, but the thought is lost to the din of the refectory, as she notices Malvyn's demeanor. It's clear something more happened than just an impromptu concert. ((Insight: Nat 20 for 24 just to sense that his vibe is off))
As he pulls out a chair, she pauses before sitting and peers up at the tiefling, searching his face. Trying to be subtle ((Stealth: 15)), Mei brings her hand up to her lips, resting a copper wire ring just beneath her bottom one as she quietly Messages, "[Is everything okay?]"
(OOC - despite the great Insight check, Malvyn can post what he feels appropriate in regards to Mei's attempt.)
Mae and Knap make their way over wand are able to quickly see a queue forming. Students seem to take a tray, plate, and silverware and are served from a number of selections. There are vegetables, a few sides, meat dishes, and vegetarian dishes. There are stranger offerings too - insects, some concoction for treats and dreads, and even some raw meats.
You may have your choice of what you want. The servers limit the serving sizes, but they'll tell you you can come back and get more if you wish.
At the end are a few deserts - fruits and a variety of cakes. And drinks - water, fruit juice, tea, coffee, and various sorts of milk, including soy and nut-based items.
It's quite a lot, but everything is nearly labeled. And workers are more than willing to help with explaining what's available.
