Quinn gladly takes Jurgen up on his offer. He gathers up some leaves and pulls them over his body, hoping to camouflage himself a bit. He keeps his dagger and bow at the ready, just in case.
“Jurgen, wake me at the first sign of danger. And give me a nudge if I begin to snore.”

It is late afternoon. The ruins remain quiet. You can't help but worry about the fate of Bryony and Kimberley.
Just as Quinn, Jurgen, and Syzygy try to get some real rest, they hear something not far away. Dragging sounds, footsteps, brush breaking, the sounds of something very large pushing through the underbrush...
A Long Rest still on the horizon, your repose is interrupted by the sound of something large approaching your hiding place noisily, dragging something. Whatever it is pauses for a moment near your hidey hole. You can hear it breathing. Something with large lungs, sniffing...
[ooc. im a fool, I didn’t see that the forum went on to another page, didn’t realise posts were made….]
syzygy, blinks his eyes open and looks at jurgen. Worried that even a whisper of spell preparation might give away their presence, syzygy slips out a dagger prepared to throw it.
You are resting, hidden upon a scrubby ridge to the southeast of the ruined castle, on the far side of a modest hill, within a brush-covered depression in the forest floor, a shallow cleft against a large boulder. You cannot see the castle, but you are close enough – within a few hundred feet - to listen. You've heard little until now.
But something very large has arrived, and has stopped nearby – something massive and bipedal, dragging something. You can hear it breathing, sniffing. It is out of your direct sight from where you hide in the shallow pit beside the boulder.
You can smell something, too. Something burning. Something meaty. It would smell tasty if it weren't mixed with something bitter, foul.
And then you hear something new. The baying of a wolf. Loud. Piercing. Coming from the direction of the castle.
You can hear your visitor become quieter in reaction to the sound. You can hear it beginning to walk slowly, but less than quietly, in the direction of the howl.
Quinn awakens and trains his ears on the heavy creature walking nearby. He thinks to himself .”Hmm…bear? No…”
He scans the area with just his eyes. He thinks to reach for his longbow, but he tenses up when he hears the wolf howl off in the distance. Once he hears the…thing…walk away noisily, he grabs his longbow bow and lifts his head slowly and looks at his friends.
DM: does the bipedal thing make any sounds in response to the wolf? Ill make a perception and nature check just in case.

Whatever it is seems to be walking clumsily toward the howling.
Peeking out of the hole, Quinn gets just a glimpse of something humanoid, hairless, and nearly as wide as it is tall, which is some nine feet. It must weigh a thousand pounds. You can't make out what it's dragging, as it pushes through the weeds and brambles.
Jurgen can see nothing, just a massive shape playing through the brush toward the ruined castle, perhaps 50 feet from you now. The smell of smoke hangs in the air. The long, unnerving howl has ended. But then Jurgen hears someone near the castle shout in Goblin, "Where? Where?"
Jurgen, Syzygy, and Quinn remain in their hiding spot perhaps 250 feet south of (and out of sight of) the ruined castle, where they just heard both an enormous and chilling howl and a voice shouting in Goblin. The huge bipedal hairless creature (most recently snooping around your hole) crashes through the brush toward it. The lumbering 1000-pound giant has now topped the modest rise and disappeared behind it, maybe 100 feet from you by now.
"I am torn. Between being at full strength and having my companion put back together." He motions to the pile of machine parts that vaguely resemble a quadruped animal. "Or, to rush back in and rescue our friends who are probably in need of our assistance. My heart tells me to go, but my mind tells me to rest and finish."
Quinn moves 30' north to the top of the modest wooded ridge. He can see, perhaps 150 feet from him, a massive, club-wielding, 9-foot ogre in the thick of battle with a huge wolf nearly its size, amongst the trees south of the castle, against the backdrop of the crumbling ruins beyond. Goblins and hobgoblins in the distance appear to have bows trained on the fighting duo, and the ogre already has three goblin arrows protruding from it, together with a nasty neck wound. (Quinn: Make a Perception check to see anything further.)
Jurgen agrees. He will take first shift and start work on rebuilding his steel defender.

“Do you think it will return? Is this where hulking creature rests? Should we follow? Or find another place to rest?”
syzygy remains cross-legged and returns the dagger to its hilt.
“Us Shadar-Kai need little rest but im afraid we have no time where we are.”

The clear sounds of battle drift over the hill. A deep roar of pain, goblin shouts, crashing, snarling, and snapping. The smell of smoke remains.
Quinn springs up quick once he hears the panicked goblin call out. He moves quickly to the others.
“Whatever we do, we can’t stay here. Jurgen, I dunno if that…thing…is an ally of anyone.”
he pauses when he hears the sounds of battle.
”Come, quick! Let’s keep our distance and observe from afar.”
Quinn limps quickly through the woods, longbow drawn and at the ready, towards the castle.
