Bryony races around the corner and sinks two sharp blades into the first bugbear (#2) before it even hears her coming. It shrieks in pain and, badly wounded, spins to face the halfling.
Bugbear #2 bashes Bryony with its Morningstar: Morningstar Attack vs. Bryony: 17. Hit: 7 piercing damage.
Bugbear #4 continues its assault on Boona: Morningstar Attack vs. Boona: 8. Hit: 17 piercing damage.
"Get this freak off me!" screams Nezznar. Nezznar again conjures a mass of thick, sticky webbing out of his spider staff.
Boona and Bryony must make DC15 Dex Saves or be Restrained by the goo. The two bugbears are also caught up in the web: DC15 Dex Saves: 4, 22
Suddenly, a disheveled dwarf strides out from behind Nezznar. "Stop this right now!" shouts the dwarf. "Weapons down!"
Bugbear #2 (seriously wounded) is hopelessly trapped in the goop. Bugbear #4 (unwounded) presses itself against a hollow in the cave wall and escapes the trap.
Everyone may act. (Boona and Bryony should make the Dex Save first...)
Bryony isn't feeling too good after the last blow from the morningstar. She wobbles on her feet and gets hopelessly stuck in the webbing. She is about to stab the injured bugbear again when a disheveled dwarf appears and commands everyone to drop their weapons.
"Why should we?" she says defiantly, still holding her blades at the ready.
(Bryony will ready the attack action and strike at the injured bugbear if either of the two bugbears or Nezznar attack again.)
Boona and Bryony are deeply stuck, but with a wild swing of her maul, Boona manages to tear down Nezznar the Spider before he can retreat. He falls face-first into the stone floor; his staff clatters on the rocks before sticking to a web near Boona.
The dwarf puts his hands on his hips, sternly. "This isn't what it looks like. And now you've made a mess of this, you fools! Nezznar hired the Cragmaw goblins and the Redbrands to ensure that Wave Echo Cave remained a secret, but it was so he could finish his research before the idiot prospectors arrived from Phandalin. I am Nundro Rockseeker, and this is my mine. It's time for you to leave – go back the way you came." He points to the south.
Quinn, Jurgen, and Ruven may still act. Quinn is just in earshot of this exchange, but Jurgen and Ruven are too far away to hear anything but the splashing of water.
The webs begin to melt. Boona and Bryony are free, as is bugbear #2.
Quinn listens to the chatter and he's not all that convinced of this dwarf's story. As Jurgen moves past him, Quinn grabs him by the arm and whispers in his ear.
"Careful, friend. There's someone around the corner claiming to be Nundro Rockseeker. I'm not so sure, but he may be an imposter. Keep Draco on guard, I dunno where that Vhalak went and we don't want anyone flanking us."
Quinn carefully moves forward to get a better glimpse at the dwarf. He's sure to keep space between himself and bugbear #2. He raises Lightbringer up high to shine some light on the dwarf.
"Nundro?" Quinn calls out and squints at him to get a better look. "Nezznar hired the Cragmaws and Redbrands to keep the mine a secret? What say you about all the killing, rampaging, and pillaging that those goblins and brigands were up to? All in the name of keeping this place secret.
What's your part in all this? Where are your brothers? Are they all in on this with you?!"

The two bugbears, one bleeding badly and scowling at Bryony, dust themselves off and carefully join the dwarf on the stairs. One bends to examine the limp form of Nezznar on the ground.
"We can't be held responsible for what those goons did in Phandalin. And the goblins are, well, goblins," declares the dwarf. He indeed strongly resembles Gundren, if a little older and heavier. "One of my brothers is dead. These are very dangerous caves. As for Gunrend, he's running around spinning fanciful lies about us. He's probably skulking around here somewhere, I expect, or is he too cowardly to join you?"
Bryony just shakes her head at the dwarf. Nundro doesn't seem to have any love lost for his brothers. If he was willing to kill so many people or at least not care about their deaths in the pursuit of the secrets of this cavern, then he was a terrible person in her book, and she didn't want to look at him anymore.
"I'm going to go check on Ruven," she says, giving Nundro one last glare before she heads toward the cliff Ruven was hurled over.
"Yes, Gundren has double-crossed us," continues the dwarf in Common, ignoring Quinn's insult. "I know you are suspicious of our intentions, but we mean you no harm. Turn and leave this place, and be free. Or, if you're spoiling for a fight and wish to do us all a service, kill the dead things to the southeast. But this is my mine and you are trespassers here."
Without taking his eyes off the dwarf, Quinn reponds to Boona in the giant language.
In Giant: "Dwarf might be bad. Watch him and the bugbears. Be ready to squash."
Quinn, exasperated and losing patience, laughs and continues to address the dwarf in the dwarven tongue.
(OOC: The entire time he addresses the dwarf, Quinn does so with a smirk and speaks in a carefree voice.)
In Dwarven:"You mean us no hard, yet you and this cow pie on the floor did your best to kill us. I may seem like some simpleton from up in the sticks, but I'm well traveled and I speak many languages. I heard the orders to kill us."
Quinn laughs and shrugs before continuing in dwarven.
"Clearly I'm well versed in the dwarven language too. I picked up a bit of the language when I was young, but I really learned to speak it with zest and fervor from Gundren. A fervor and honor of the dwarven language that you clearly lack. You can't even address me in your mother tongue. You don't even understand a word I'm saying, do ya?
Who are you really? Where's the real Nundro?"

Quinn, knowing Bryony speaks giant, relays her a message as she walks away.
Message in Giant: “Careful, Bryony. Something isn’t right here. Keep an eye out for the other Drow, Vhalak.”
The tired and grumpy old ranger returns his attention to the dwarf.
“Again, I ask you, what is YOUR part in all of this? What is YOUR partnership with Nezznar?
I’ve always known the Rockseeker brothers to be tight knit. Yet you show no concern for Tharden and you spit on the name of Gundren.”
Quinn pauses briefly and then switches to the dwarven language to deliver an insult.
In Dwarven: “You bring shame to the Rockseeker name and your family’s reputation in this land.”
