Salamir is taken almost completely off guard by the attack of the beast, as he belatedly sees the creature charge towards him and Ed intervene on his horse with potentially mortal consequences. He watches as the beast overpowers Ed and his horse, knocking them both to the ground and pinning Ed underneath a now sleeping horse!
He is drawing his scimitar as the beast suddenly shimmers and disappears from on top of his ally and their mount. He looks around and spots it reappear, and wastes no time in heading after it.
"I will distract it, someone help Ed out from under his horse", he calls as he closes the distance almost unfeasibly quickly. He then slashes across the beasts maw with his scimitar, infusing the strike with thunderous energy.

Rammand jumps down and runs to assist Ed. He sarcastically mutters to himself, “Hey Rammand. Go pick up that horse off the cat man. I’ll just pull a winch out of my pocket. Do you need a catapult too? I keep one in my beard.” He tosses his rope to Ed and tries to help pull him from under the fallen horse.

Ed needs Rammand to help. He and Persephone with prone Ed is 60ft away from the beast and Salamir. Constance remains 90ft from the danger zone!
Salamir deftly ducks under the first claw strike of the beast, but it puts him off balance and the second wings him. He does manage to resist whatever secondary effect the injury could have had though.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The first arrow finds purchase on the beasts shadowy hide igniting the wound! The second arrow sails into the darken road hitting the heavily packed earth and skittering across the ground the arcane flames extinguished!

It then strikes out again at Salamir with it's claws and jaws!
Claw Attack: 16 Damage: 6
Bite Attack: 8 Damage: 7
Again CON save if hit.
Persephone with her action she thinks about the shadowy beasts she's studied but this one seems an odd amalgamation of several entities but resembles most from the Shadowfell. She doesn't quite understand what it us but she sure light will harm it. It's shadowy form seems to meld with darkness itself! So, bonus action and movement?
"Fascinating. Did you see the way its incorporeal form interacted with the transpositional force? As though its discarnate being conflicted with the physicality required for the tether to find purchase," Constance says with morbid captivation, reaching again for her field journal.
Her hand pauses as she watches Salamir dart for the beast, intrigued as always by his speed and wondering what genetics determined the limit threshold of physiological factors. She's asked multiple times to stress test his circulatory system, but he's always wiggled his way out of it. Her thoughts, not at all on the battle, are interrupted when the shadowy creature's claws meet Salamir's flesh and with Persephone warning about the Shadowfell.
Her eyes darken.
Urging Doc closer, Constance flicks a hand over Alphinius and the pages turn once more in a flurry. There are no spells in her arsenal that attack with light, but add an "ning" to that and... She draws the arcane sigil from the page into the air and twists her wrist as though turning a rotary dial. The color of the sigil shifts from green to red to a white-blue that crackles and fills the air with the heavy scent of ozone. "I'll have a far easier time studying you once you're dead." Her fingers lock the sigil in place and thrust it forward, shooting an orb of shocking energy at the shadow creature.

The beast reels with frantic shadowy motion until it howls disappearing into the shadows around the party as if dematerializing before them!
Initiative over, post at will.
"What in the Nine Hells," Ed hisses looking around as the shadowy beast just vanishes. "Persephone...you said Shadowfell," the black tabaxi asks their orb like amber eyes glinting in the darkness. "Why is it here," they ask aloud looking around at the party.

Sometimes a Nat 1 tells a better story than a Nat 20 ever could.
Salamir sees the beast tense it’s muscles and start to lash out once again at him, seeing almost in slow motions the claws heading at him and knowing there is nothing he can do to avoid it.
And then lightning strikes from behind him, hitting the beast and arcing around its body and destroying at least its physical form.
He turns around to see Constance sitting astride Doc pointing some kind of sigil in his direction.
”Constance, just wow! I think you might have just saved my bacon there”.
When Ed asks his questions he merely shakes his head, “I don’t know what it is, let alone why it is here. Hopefully those smarter than me can figure it out”, he replies and then starts to look for tracks that they can compare to any description of the beast they are actually supposed to be finding.
”I wonder if it could be the same thing as took the kids father? I know we are still far away, but maybe it followed them?”.
With hair sticking every which way and her chest heaving with breath, Constance looks every bit as though she's been struck by lightning as well. Her eyes are wide behind her glasses and she cradles her casting hand against her stomach, the kickback from the spell having turned her entire arm numb. Expression one of utter distress, she rushes with Doc toward Salamir in what, at first, seems to be genuine concern for his state of wellbeing.
But then she nearly mows him over with her horse.
The wizard slides off the saddle and frantically searches about the area for any trace of the shadowy creature. Seeing not even a clump of singed fur, she curses, "Bollocks," then crouches down in quite an unladylike fashion to see if, like Salamir, any tracks have been left behind--the lack thereof would at least be in keeping with what the twins said.
Persephone answers Ed with "The Shadowfell is a parallel plane, like the Feywild, but as dark as the Feywild is light. It is said that the veils between worlds can thin sometimes, allowing things to pass, but the usual crossover is by summoning. We're better off if it was summoned, no telling how many are here if there's a rift between worlds"
Persephone dismounts and approaches the group. "Looks like healing is needed", and mutters a quick prayer over Salamir for 3 As she heals, she makes a medicine check to see if there's any venom or infection in the wounds 22
"Does anyone else need healing? Ed? Your horse? Can we warn the others to look out for these?"
"I might need to double up with someone...my horse is beyond healing Persephone," the tabaxi replies getting their gear off the dead beast.
As Persephone looks over Salamir's wounds, she sees nothing that immediately strikes her as more than piercing and slashing damage that her divine magics heal.
"I hope we're dealing with things we can see," Ed exclaims at Salamir's question. "Exceptionally well-handled everyone," the tabaxi adds then turns to Rammand. "I...I don't think I would have made it without your help," Ed says offering their paw to the dwarf in a handshake!

Salamir manages to roll off Doc's flank as he careens into him, "Careful Constance, one beast attacking me of an evening is quite enough". He then declines the healing from Persephone, "My thanks, but you have already done enough Seph, what is left is merely a trophy scar. Right now I am more in need of a tailor than a healer in truth". He smiles at Persephone to show his gratitude for the healing from earlier.
He turns to Ed, "If Lady Pall hadn't been so stub... perceptive we might have passed by this creature by, leaving the wagon exposed and in trouble. I know we were after speed, but this trail is more dangerous than we knew. We should double back and travel together".
Seeming to snap out of her hyper-focus, Constance adjusts her glasses and looks over her shoulder at Salamir with an inscrutable expression. Her brown eyes flit over his form, taking stock of his injuries. The residual numbness from the spell—cast in anger and fear—begins to wear off and pins and needles prickle the nerves back to life as she wrings her gloved hands together.
“He’s alright, Constance, dear,” Alphinius whispers to her, his tone soothing. “He’s alright.”
“I-… I’m well, aware, Alphinius, thank you,” she replies, a hint of defensiveness at the edges of the words and heat upon her cheeks, before approaching the group.
“I can send word to the wagon,” she offers, “to both expect us and keep an eye out? I daresay if Archimedes is doing his job, nothing will get the jump on them at the very least.”
Constance stoops to inspect the dead horse and its injuries, trying to further extrapolate any information from the encounter as a whole, inferring any additional information about the creature and possible vulnerabilities.
