Starker continues his search to now include the pile of stuff. There he finds a strong box that jingles like it is full of coins, a suit of dwarf sized chain mail, a nice battle axe and a shield. He also finds three suits of chain mail, 3 shields and 3 long swords all similar in appearance and bearing the same icon on them. Showing them to others, the icon is recognized as the mark of the Arcane Brotherhood in Luskan. You also find a back pack with ink vials, quills, a scroll case that is empty, an empty flask (smells like whiskey) and the burnt remains of a bound book. Examining this book, it looks like a wizard's spell book. It is ruined beyond use at this point.
Starker reports findings to the group, suggests that the dwarf look at the armor to see if it is his or if it would fit, points out the box to Blue H, and says “I am going to rest for an hour if I can in order to recover some small amount of magical potency. If we need to leave before then please let me know and I will come along woth the group, rested or not.”
Henilen nods, "That must be the wand in there. And that is the armor Belgger arrived in." He the observes as more of you begin to sit to rest. It is clear he is becoming distressed, "We CANNOT sit here. If we are caught here at night none of us will live. We will all become sacrifices."
Trolkarl returns to the landing and shouts to the party.
We have an hour or at most two before dusk. I will be above doing a quick check of the remaining buildings and calling out for the Shalecliff captives. If our friends from Waterdeep can point out where they witnessed the bodies being tossed, perhaps we can rule out further search based on what is found.
Starker gives up on the idea of replenishing his mojo and gathers up Cirrus Magnus and heads up to the surface, and waits despondently for the party at the NE corner of the settlement where we battled the orcs.
In the meantime I wrack my brain, searching my knowledge of history and the arcane … what might be awaiting us in the ravenous darkness of this night?
If we have an hour or two, Hoid should be able to complete his short rest because he is at least half an hour into the rest. But if we need to leave 59 minutes in, the short rest will be scrapped.
How big is the box that seems to have the wand/staff in question? Worst case scenario, can we carry it out while locked? Is it locked?
I suggest we leave now if we wish to put as much distance as possible between us and this place at dusk. We will be slowed getting everyone outside the camp. But we can have a final search of the cliffs and outbuildings before we leave by those not helping Belgger.
Our dilemma lies in helping our new friends get far away from here - clearly, they will both need support - and the potential of saving any of the people of Shalecliff. The longer we search, the greater the risk to everyone. Of course, moving out means no rest and being even weaker if we were to confront this thing. But it may prove futile even with rest.
Chadwick, did Erbert also share the driftglobe with you before we left? Perhaps that can give us even a little more time and a better chance to get some distance.
Belgger is dead weight. Will likely require two people to carry him at half-speed. Henilen will need assistance from a human sized person to move full speed. Otherwise, half-speed.
Starker, when he learns of the wand’s presence and Henilen’s weakness, says, “If Henilen is too weak to use the wand and if its use might aid us in the trials to come I could perhaps wield it for the common weal.”
Could ask them to volunteer to be tied up to posts to distract and/or sate the monster this evening as we run away.
No?
suggest we wait for Hoid’s rest to end, in the meantime try to fix cart or, if unfixable, rig a travois for the dwarf. Then hie we thither. Nothward ho?
make sure everyone has their holy water ready to hand.

Hoid has been at his short rest for 20 minutes
Oh, shoot. I forgot to apply the 1 level of exhaustion to everyone.....
Someone please cast detect magic on the items found. If lucky, that might also reveal the wizards wand or staff or whatever it was.
Starker takes 10 minutes to perform the Detect Magic ritual.
*something* inside the box radiates Evocation magic.
Starker reports findings to the group, suggests that the dwarf look at the armor to see if it is his or if it would fit, points out the box to Blue H, and says “I am going to rest for an hour if I can in order to recover some small amount of magical potency. Henilen looks up to Trolkarl on the balcony, “Thank you, sir. You seem to understand.” He looks around, “We must gather what we will and leave.”
He then answers Trolkarl, “The orcs threw the bodies over the cliff edge. Even they would not consume the flesh after the sacrifices.”
Starker gives up on the idea of replenishing his mojo and gathers up Cirrus Magnus and heads up to the surface, and waits despondently for the party at the NE corner of the settlement where we battled the orcs.

It is a strong box. Sounds full of coins. 18”x9”x6”. Weighs 20 lbs.
Belgger is unable to stand. Henilen is weak and not able to move full speed.
Can Belgger move with the help of one person, or will it require two?
How heavy is the dragon corpse? Is it something that can be carried, or do we need to just take the head?
How broken was the broken donkey cart? Conceivably could we load the injured, strong box, and corpse in it then Hoid and Chadwick pull it?
I suggest we leave now if we wish to put as much distance as possible between us and this place at dusk. We will be slowed getting everyone outside the camp. But we can have a final search of the cliffs and outbuildings before we leave by those not helping Belgger.

The strongbox is not locked and opens when Hoid tries the latch.
Inside is a wand matching the description given by Henilen. There are a bunch of coins. It is a mix of copper, silver and gold in order of frequency.
Starker, when he learns of the wand’s presence and Henilen’s weakness, says, “If Henilen is too weak to use the wand and if its use might aid us in the trials to come I could perhaps wield it for the common weal.”
/plans?
Searching? Resting? Departing? If so, with or without Henilen and Belgger? If with, how so?
