Time passes. The Daylight spell ends and darkness covers the camp. The hair raising sensation has not been present since your sighting of the creatures and their departure.
Chadwick will accept one of the other daggers, at least he can get a ranged attack in if necessary.
Since we all really need a long rest I think we should get back to it. The wraiths seem to announce their presence. Chadwick can teach everyone how to activate the light spell during their watch. Hopefully that will keep them at bay.
“Wake me up when a crushing atmosphere of gloom descends. Or in a couple of hours, whichever somes first.” Starker is still hoping to be able to prepare Protection from Evil before we need protection from evil.
The night passes without further incident. Dawn early light is welcomed by each of you. Both Belgger and Henilen appear to be better for a night of rest and some food. Henilen appears as though he can be helpful. Belgger is still pushed to the edge, but better.
Hey all, I see a thin column of smoke ahead! It's a good distance north of us and appears to be near the river. I'm leery about investigating in our weakened state. They could be hostile, or be a friendly party. Even if they are friendly I would be hesitant to make contact in case that Nasty Night is pursuing us, I wouldn't want to bring innocent bystanders into it.
I will volunteer to scout it out. Im fast, im a good swimmer, I think I can make it.

Starker recalls that we were sent by the town to find the townspeople taken in the raid and that we had agreed to take the assignment. “Going back to town with two strangers, some dragon anatomy examples and our tails between our legs will not further our progress towards our goal. Now that we are rested after our tactical retreat, I asserverate that we should hie back to the orc/dragon encampment and continue our search.”
Can the three get back to town without our assistance? If so, that weighs in favor of returning to investigate the orc/dragon lair.
Contrarily, blue man said no hostage came to the lair in some time. Given the amount of time between the raid on Shalecliff and our arrival at the lair, it seems we have eye witnesses testimony that the townspeople were not in the orc/dragon lair. This suggests the tower is where the townspeople must be, if yet alive.
The tower may have wraiths or other undead nastiness (like Erbert the Lich King).
I believe we have at least 5 silvered weapons in the group. Maybe 6. If we have 6, everyone can have one, weighing against returning to town.
Silvered weapons (who has them):
Hoid’s BMF sword (Hoid)
Silver dagger from the Spider’s lair (Chadwick)
3 daggers from monk whose neck was stretched (2 Hoid, 1 Gneuman)
That is 5. Kragen said he also has one, but I do not know whether that is one of those listed with Hoid or another. If it is another, everyone can have a silvered dagger except Hoid, who prefers his BMF sword.
There were fresh corpses I observed at the cliffside. I tried to check more thoroughly as you built the cart. But it was a long way down. I couldn’t see anything on then that we could use to identify them without going to the bottom.
We could certainly go back check and bury or bring the bodies back for identification
Henilen listens in as you plan. He looks to Aadan and Belgger. "It seems the guard and I are in condition to walk back to town. But," he adds shaking his head, "Belgger is still in no condition to travel under his own power." He considers for a moment and adds, "We could establish a camp of sorts for the three of us to remain while you investigate the ruins further."
“Henilens council seems courageous and wise! Starker and Hoid have provided sound reasons to return. given the opportunity, I would prefer to return and have a clear understanding if the townspeople are alive.”
“We are now rested and have a better understanding of the evil of this place. Chadwick and I have Tyrs might that we can use on the dead who cannot sleep.” “I do not fear the undead, I pity them.”
”let us return and cleanse this place of the evil that permeates this ground.”
Kragen prepares for departure and begins to pray. “Protect those that walk and the light, and bring power to those that combat evil.”

I have a silver dagger and I can use my radiant sunbolt a few times. Those should be effective, at least for a little while.

Henilen and Belgger both sleep.
For the record, Hoid has two spare silvered daggers, balanced for throwing.
Chadwick will accept one of the other daggers, at least he can get a ranged attack in if necessary.

(( Long Rest for everyone ))
Hoid will count what is in the strongbox.
Starker gets up and immediately casta Mage Armor (better safe than sorry).
And you have great looking hair… for a Gnomie!
“Fear not compatriots, Tyr protects those who bath in his radiance!”
radiant damage will smoke these fools.
Hoid stacks the coins and comes up with 287cp, 196sp, 92gp
I'm glad that someone got that reference!
😁
So, from the OOC chat is it seems that you are headed back to Shalecliff to bring Henilen and Belgger to safety and try to gather more information?
