Belgger blushes a bit at Trolkarl's words, hiding his embarrassment behind a draught of ale. "No. Nothing was said in his confessions about you killing your brother," Belgger looks to you. "You didn't really do that did you?" Realizing the misstep he quickly continues, "The man Gaius was freed as well. He is expected to pay a fine for damaging the building to help get repairs completed. Thankfully, no one inside was hurt."
As if on cue, Gaius Heartstone enters the inn along with an advisor of Lord Granitethew. Gaius takes a seat at another table and busies himself with a flagon of ale and some bread brought by one one the servers.
The advisor comes to your table, "Greetings from Lord Granitethew. I am here to come to an understanding about the items recovered from your assailants. By rights, you are entitled to their possessions. Lord Granitethew is of the opinion that the guard, although arriving late, did provide assistance. And, he is Lord here," the dwarf looks around the table. "So, let's discuss." He pulls out a sheet of paper with a list of items recovered and proposed values of them. A second column lists items determined to be enchanted and what their wizard has determined them to be. Included in the second list is a torn fragment of paper with what appears to be a map drawn upon it. "Their purses had a total of 881cp, 494sp, 495gp and 44pp. Lord Granitethew proposes that your share of this would be: 120cp, 180sp, 300gp and 30pp.There were several vials of poison found amongst their gear, and some of their crossbow bolts were coated in poison. Nasty fellows," he says while laying out the paper for you to examine. "The lantern of interest to you," he says addressing Starker, "is not up for discussion. It is an evil construct and will be destroyed," he waits to see confirmation before proceeding. "What of this list is of interest to you?," he asks.
Starker: “I will leave the negotiations to my much more experienced companions. As to the lantern, I agree that it should be destoyed. If I were allowed to study it first I could learn how it works which would allow me in turn to (1) devise countermeasures should we encounter its like again, and (2) determine the safest way to destroy it, lest a full phalanx of fell fiends be inadvertantly loosed in your peaceful metroplis.
”Oh, and that scrap of map paper is also of passing interest.”
Nothing else for me. The everfull pot of ink seems like the perfect gift for our gnome friend Should we ever run into Erbert, I'm sure he would love it. Unless Starker has need.
”Would you throw in the pouch with the ball bearings? My simian companion, Cyrus Magnus, would enjoy learning to juggle, and I owe him a little amusement having in the not too distant past accidently ordered him to his death.
”… also the wand … you never know with wands.
”And if I am not allowed to study the lantern, may I attend and witness its destruction?”
We haven't talked much about our pasts. But I believe it's time to share a bit. I was born into House Ravenshield, though I've since renounced... things... and gone exile... or perhaps it's fairer to say I ran away from home, tired of being tied to the injustices associated with my family. Yet it seems my past followed me.
Alamnal Deepwalker, our family advisor, has framed me for the murder of my brother, who went missing after uncovering something in our family library—likely tied to a scandal that changed the course of House Ravenshield and Gaius’s family.
Gaius and I now share a common goal: removing Alamnal, for the good of our people. Gaius helped us in the ambush, and in return, I propose we offer him the crossbow as his share of the spoils.
Additionally, I'd be glad to also give Kragen this similar diamond - if it would aid us.
The advisor looks around the table for objection to this plan. Seeing none he states, "Very well, gentlemen. Lord Granitethew thanks you for all you have done for Granitestead. I will have the agreed upon items here for you today." He stands after collecting his things. "And, Starker, our wizards would welcome your input on evaluating the lantern and the best means for its destruction. If you are willing to assist, please come by the citadel tomorrow morning."
20cp, 30sp, 50gp, 5pp for each of you. You have the six gems to distribute as well as the items. Map Fragment 3 can be found in Inventory.
And you should have a total of 2 diamonds. With a cleric and a paladin between healing words, wasps, and our tactical brilliance, this belt and suspenders approach to survivability will just be an extra encumbrance. ;)

”Oh, and that scrap of map paper is also of passing interest.”
As you talk, the advisor makes a mark beside the items of interest to you:
The spear, the map piece, the darts, the diamond and the hand crossbow +1.
He looks around the table as if to ask ‘anything else?’
(I’m unsure about the crossbow. Would anyone use it?)
Nothing else for me. The everfull pot of ink seems like the perfect gift for our gnome friend Should we ever run into Erbert, I'm sure he would love it. Unless Starker has need.
The advisor takes the sheet and makes some scribbles on it and then turns it over to make a new list. It shows your share to be:
Vicious Spear
Map Fragment 3
Dart of Lightning x 2
Hand Crossbow +1
the Everfull Inkpot
Gems: Diamond 300gp, Opal 100gp x 2, Jasper 50gp x 3
120cp, 180sp, 300gp, 30pp
"How do you feel about this division of the spoils?," he asks.
“Oh, the silver brooch with Citrines and the flask of fine whisky, please.” Kragen smiles thinking about consuming the brown liquid.
Gneuman will take the spear, if no one else wants it.
The advisor makes some changes to the list:
Vicious Spear
Map Fragment 3
Dart of Lightning x 2
Potion: Force Resistance
Hand Crossbow +1
Everfull Inkpot
Silver Brooch with Citrines 200g
Flask of Whiskey
Bag of ball bearings
Wand
Diamond 300gp
120cp, 180sp, 120gp, 30pp
New loot proposal:
Vicious Spear
Map Fragment 3
Hand Crossbow +1
Diamond 300gp, Opal 100gp x 2, Jasper 50gp x 3
120cp, 180sp, 300gp, 30pp

“Thank you. I will be there in the morning.”
"Thank you Captain, we are grateful for Laird Granitethew hospitality.
I’ll take one of the jaspers and give it to Ajax for his growing hoard, if no one objects.
If all are ok, i'll take the Diamond for the Revivify spell?
That was the intention.
And you should have a total of 2 diamonds. With a cleric and a paladin between healing words, wasps, and our tactical brilliance, this belt and suspenders approach to survivability will just be an extra encumbrance. ;)
