key from Duren open the cage?
if noone objects, and if mid-vivisection elf seems unlikely to recover, Starker will end his distracting pain with a bare bodkin, for who would such fardels bear?
Take Edisonian approach with doors, locks, chests, Duren’s key, mindflayer’s keys. about getting out: i imagine fight club is quiet in the morning? Another reason to long rest here.
After the short rest (5 dice used to fully heal) if Kragen doesn't have any healing spells left Chadwick will use a healing potion to try and save the elf. Kind of forgot about him when I typed out my original response (whoops).
Chadwick will assist in the exploring. Is it ok for Chadwick to grab the glaive? It'll be nice to have a decent weapon again if we have to fight our way out. This assumes Lady Stormrider is doing ok. Did she have any responses to Chadwick's question?
That breastplate should be a nice upgrade for Trolkarl with the lower weight.
The elf is far beyond the help of any routine healing. The apparatuses connected to him by tubing continue to pump fluids in and out of him. Only a Heal or Wish could save him now.

The papers on the desk and the scrolls all seem to be written by the same person. All in the same language. A language Starker recognizes as Infernal. The notes in the lab and some on the desk are details of vivisection experiments he carried out on elves, dwarves, humans, and a giff. Other papers detail his intrigue dealings about the Rock of Bral with contacts and deals represented in detail. You recognize the Juggler's Blade being mentioned several times. More recent entries label a contact simply as V. Nolreth was involved with V somehow as well, possibly controlling them.
Use the App to do this. Hit the camp fire icon on the main page of Kragen. Choose short rest. Click how many hit dice you want to recover and you should heal 1d8+3 per hit die used.
Chests probably are best opened by Hoid once someone more observant has looked for traps. Dwarves being resistant to poison and having the biggest HP pool makes Hoid the best Guinea pig.
Gneuman and Starker check out the chests for any traps. Starker finds nothing. Gneuman points out that there is some kind of oil on the handles of the chest to the south where the mind flayer came from.
Is there anything we can use to open the chest with oil on the handles? Something like leather that should not allow the oil to get through? Or can the chest be opened without touching the handles?

Will check out bookcase, scrolls, and box. If we have time to long rest (?) could prepare ‘knock’

Starker: “Cyrus reports a group of thralls standing in the room beside the river. They are not moving.”
There is a chest in both the north and south chambers. Which do you try?
Now I’m scared. Detect magic ritual, please. “Does anyone know how to detect traps?”
Starker casts Detect Magic as a ritual. He then walks about the place.
Starker finds the following items to radiate magic:
From the Mind Flayer
Breastplate - No school
Silver ring set with coral - Transmutation
From the North Room
Glaive - Faint Divination
(Going afk. Flight home.)

Look for Duren's Notes in the inventory section.
Do we recover any HP on a short rest?
Could V be short for Ventrix?

Should we have Starker use identity (ritual) on one or more of the magic items? Or is that better saved for later?

You try lifting the lid avoiding the handles and find that it is locked.
