Starker, I trust in your reasoning. The one consideration that makes this different than the academy lab back in Waterdeep is that locked door over there
Hopefull, it’s more stone skulls and nothing sentient on the other side. Between our setting off alarms, talking about resting, and having lunch- anyone on there other side could have tried to get us for the last few hours. But still I would feel more comfortable with this plan after we know something isn’t coming out while you try this maneuver.
In the very least I will be ready with Darkbane standing guard at that door while the circus performs.
Starker:”That is an excellent point, Friend Trokarl. The safest way for me to acquire the gems is when The Company is on its way out and will protect me, as opposed to my leaving by myself after I acquire them. Very logical.
“Let us go through the as yet unexplored regions until The Company is satsfied. We can take possession of my jewels as we are leaving.”

Privately to Trolkarl, Kragen, and Chadwick: "I understand that you have known the good mage much longer than I have, but doesn't his behavior seem a bit....off? Coincidentally, since his gem fuelled escapade?"
Xymox: "What are we prioritizing? Are we checking the door that Trolkarl suggested or are we intent on going after the gems as Starker has requested? This longer that we linger in this dreadful place, the more we put ourselves at risk. Splitting the party seems Ill advised."
Starker:”We will recover my gems later, after we have gotten my staff and vanquished the lich as Xagyg has requested. Before going through the misty arch’s door we should examine the other, currently locked, door, as we do not want to leave enemies along our line of retreat or treasures uncollected.
”Xymox, perhaps you could use you mechanically persuassive techniques on the lock?”

Amongst the three. “I agree Xymox, his behavior has been quite odd. I also suspect that he is under the control of this Illiandil. The question is, do we use his possession and allow it to lead us to him or exercise the possession post haste?”
“Starker and Trolkarl has the right of it. Master Bard, can you open the remaining locked dirt on the 2nd level. I recommend we leave the gems in place for now.”
(just checking the as of now, Kragen carries the gem from the Altar box and Chadwick carries the gem from … cupped hands?)

Xymox will attempt to pick the lock on the door in question: (19+4+3= 26)

The squeal of the heavy door grates against your senses as you step inside. The familiardark glassy floorbeneath your feet pulses with writhingropes of flamethat twist just beneath the surface. To your left stands another door—thick wood, banded in iron, set in astone archway carved with dozens of skulls, many of which areinhumanorcompletely alien in shape.
The room's walls and ceiling are carved and painted into a lush forest glen. Theillusion of foliage and shadowis nearly perfect—an ancient canopy looms above, thick roots curve along the base of the walls. The sound of chirping birds in the distance, buzzing insects and possibly a soft babble of water over smoothed creek bed stones fill the air. In your peripheral vision, you seeflickers of motion: leaves shifting, branches swaying, something maybe—watching. But whenever you turn to look, there is nothing.”
Yartol listens to Starker’s plan. “Um, sure? As long as I don’t end up under the floor.”
<Starker and Yartol approach the door and Starker reaches to fully open the door.>

Yartol looks to Xymox, then to Starker and back to Xymox, “Seems no more greedy than most mages I have encountered.”
Xymox: "Fair enough. I'm all in favor of gathering up all of the gems as well, but let's focus on the dangers that lay before us. ...gems later."
Xymox: "What are we prioritizing? Are we checking the door that Trolkarl suggested or are we intent on going after the gems as Starker has requested? This longer that we linger in this dreadful place, the more we put ourselves at risk. Splitting the party seems Ill advised."

Click. The lock is unlocked.
Slowly open the door and peek inside.
The squeal of the heavy door grates against your senses as you step inside. The familiar dark glassy floor beneath your feet pulses with writhing ropes of flame that twist just beneath the surface. To your left stands another door—thick wood, banded in iron, set in a stone archway carved with dozens of skulls, many of which are inhuman or completely alien in shape.

Yartol stands ready, hands on sword hilts.
Xymox: "All of you should take a quick look before we enter. I fell that something may be lurking about."
Under instructions from Xymox, Kragen uses his Eagle eyes to peer Into the room.
