If Yartol isn't able to get the chain under control Chadwick will try and cut a few more feet off it. If Yartol does get it, then he'll move over to Starker by the candles "What should we try next since you've turned into a cloud?"
Starker pulls a potion out of a pouch and drinks it. He then transforms into a cloud of mist, hovering beside the fireplace. Cyrrus runs to Chadwick and clings to him for safety. Both candles remain out. Yartol is able to grab the end of the chain, preventing it from lashing about the room. It is a wild snake in his hands and he is having difficulty keeping a hold of it. Chadwick moves to the Starker cloud and asks it what to do next. Kragen Dashes up the wall to the base of the chain where it is attached to the ceiling. Xymox opens the door to the forest room and proceeds through. The door is closing behind him. Trolkarl moves to the mist cloud that is Starker and heals it for 34 HP, then asks about the writing on the fireplace to the Starker cloud. The fire ropes in the floor emerge and lash at Trolkarl and Chadwick. Chadwick: to hit = 23 for 10 fire damage. Trolkarl: to hit = 10, a miss.
The ropey flames are concentrated below Chadwick and Trolkarl with a tendril lashing out at them that extends up from the floor.
Next round actions.
Yartol continues to hold on to the chain as it writhes and jumps about in his hands.
Kragen attempts to help constrain the chain with Yartol, by grabbing the chain and walking backwards down the wall to put tension on it. While doing so looks for the mechanism that is generating the chain motion.
These flames are like those we saw downstairs. In that room and to enter here we needed to speak the truth to open the doors. Perhaps the truth will allow us to reopen it. Kragen and Starker spoke of personal experiences and sincerity in feelings of truth- perhaps this is the way
Trolkarl will again dodge looking to avoid the flames while speaking
I am Trolkarl Ravenshield, unworthy and yet still bearer of Darkbane. One night hearing wails of some poor commoner who offended my brother for not bowing deeply enough to satisfy my brother’s pride. I had enough. They made a sick game of it. I could no longer tolerate being there. I saw his men revel in that cruelty. I fled my ruinous family that night I know I likely would have only made matters worse by confronting them- or questioning my brother but part of me wonders if I could have stopped suffering if I had tried
Kragen holds onto the writhing chain from above. It is attached to a ring mounted into the ceiling. There is no mechanism driving it. It feels like it is alive in his hands as it jerks about trying to get free. He starts walking down the ceiling towards Yartol. Yartol holds onto his end of the chain as well. Chadwick sees their struggle and joins them in holding onto the chain. All of you get the idea that without the help of the others you would not have been able to hold on and the chain would be free. The two fires lashes strike out at Trolkarl, to hit = 13 and 20. One hits for 8 fire damage. Fog Starker floats through the door held open by Xymox. The door is actively trying to close, but Xymox is able to hold it open.
Starker, just outside the room, resolidifies. < unfortunately takes a magic action to do so>
Starker:”Thank you for the healing. It seems we must cool a different fire than the candle flames. Perhaps the roaring fire in the hearth? I will go in and use Chromatic Orb in an attempt to do so in a moment when I have caught my breath.
Kragen and Yartol continue to work at holding the chain still. Both grunt with effort as Chadwick's 250+ lbs of weight is added to the chain as he starts to climb it. He and Trolkarl both call out to the rest of you. The fire whips lash out at each of them. Trolkarl: to hit = 7, a miss. Chadwick: to hit = 17, a miss. Starker calls out to the rest of you and for Cyrrus to join him. Cyrrus obeys and scampers across the floor to Starker. The ropey flames in the floor intensify at the door that Xymox is holding open and he and Starker are standing beside.
The candles on the mantle remain unlit. The fire in the fireplace continues to burn. The chain goes limp in the hands of Kragen and Yartol. Chadwick is suspended above the floor about 10', halfway up.
There are two other doors here, across the room from the fireplace.
There is no where inside the room out of reach of the chain.
no idea about Bardic Inspiration. Was that done after the recent short rest? If so, then yes it is still in effect.
Starker and Trolkarl actions given. Need Kragen, Xymox and Chadwick.
Yes, BI should be in effect for Chadwick.
I thought that Xymox will exit the room if possible.
If not, he will pull out Scimitars and use dodge.
Apparently my post didn't post.

Yartol continues to hold on to the chain as it writhes and jumps about in his hands.
Xymox attemps to block the door, stopping it from closing. If he can't stop it, he will attempt to stay in the room with the rest of the party.
FogStarker (who had moved to door before drinking potion): <moves mouth but nothing comes out> <leaves room>

Trolkarl will grab the chain.
We need a plan here. Are we to flee now that we have the door open?

”Cyrus: to me!”
Xymox holds the door open, so that everyone can exit. (If they want to.) HODOR! HODOR!
Is the question said aloud? If not, put in OOC thread, please.
And, the door opened when Xymox first tried. There was no resistance to it opening. It closes if left untended.
Chadwick will scamper up the chain 10' (the hope is to avoid the flames).
Athletics check 27, nat 20, guess he does some Cirque du Soleil tricks on the way up.
"We've got the chain, y'all should quietly try and figure out the candles. Guess there is a secret door to be found in here.
Kragen notices that Chadwick is looking kind of rough 24/75 HP.
That is Trolkarl asking his bleeding companions about plans while he tries to help grapple a chain.

Actions for everyone
