Starker waves arms to get everyone’s attention, puts finger to lips, then covers mouth with both hands and stands very still. Cyrus takes ‘speak no evil’ pose also.
Kragen walks down the wall towards the fireplace and the mantle. He examines the flames in the hearth. They seem odd in color and function but give off heat. Chadwick hangs in the air, slowly swinging about on the chain about 10' above the floor. Yartol keeps one hand on the end of the chain and stands still, looking about. Trolkarl begins to speak but reads the room and stops, standing still. Xymox edges into the room quietly. Starker and Cyrus stand pantomiming with a hand covering their mouths.
All is still. The flame whips retract into the floor. The congregated ropey flames in the floor under Chadwick, Trolkarl and in front of the door with Xymox and Starker all diminish.
<Starker points out writing and writes a translation into common in his notebook, and quietly walks over and shows everyone who doesn’t read draconic:
“Cool the flame, still the blade, silence the lies — and truth is weighed.”
Then underlines and checks the first two phrases, and underlines the third and puts a check with a questionmark over it. Circles the fourth and shrugs.>
Kragen looks at Starker and nods, then gestures that he would like to write in the book.
takes the paper and writes next to the “cool the flame” I think we need to douse it more than just the candles. The flames in the fireplace look odd, do we have a way to douse the fireplace?

then points to the fireplace.
Seeing Kragen writing and pointing, Trolkarl nods. Opens his hand to request the quill. If given the pen he draws an arrow to the word douse and writes: Room that seems to turn moisture of the air solid-only a few steps down the hall if we add noise
Starker, Kragen and Trolkarl are busily scribbling in Starker’s spell book. Chadwick clings to the chain, 10’ up. Xymox quietly moves to stand beside Yartol. Both watch them proceed to pass the book between themselves for a bit then look at each other. Chadwick descends as quietly as he can to the floor. The three of them then gently turn the shoulders of the scribes to face them towards the now flameless fireplace. The hearth is completely empty.
Starker examines the hearth. It seems the rear panel is likely a door.
As Straker identifies the door, Trolkarl remains silent and draws a cheerful comic fish. A speech bubble emanates from its mouth, filled with a few arrows pointing upwards. He passes the book back to Starker
Starker:<nods to all, bows to Chadwick and Xymox with a sweep of his arm towards the door at the back of the fireplace in the universal ‘after you’ gesture.>
Kragen sees starker reveal the secret door and the instructions from Trolkarl. Walks over to Chadwick and begins to examine his wounds, dressing them and saying prayers to Tyr.
The secret door in the hearth opens to reveal a corridor beyond that is 6’ high and 10’ wide. The floor is paved in tiles of brown and beige marble. You can seen that there is a room about 30’ down the hallway and the lower half of a statue in the middle of the opposite wall. It is very quiet here and the air is cold. You can see your breath as you look into the hall.

Starker goes over to fireplace and observes. Is there any fuel? Any tools? Anything that looks like it might be used to smother?

Yartol picks up the plumb bob from the floor and wipes your blood from it, placing it in his pack.
As Straker identifies the door, Trolkarl remains silent and draws a cheerful comic fish. A speech bubble emanates from its mouth, filled with a few arrows pointing upwards.
He passes the book back to Starker

cure wounds L3 - 38hp recovered
kragen receives 5hp
then motions Chadwick grandly to the secret door
Chadwick mouths 'thank you' to Kragen, does an exaggerated bow back to Starker, then proceeds through the now not-so-secret door.
