You proceed past the closed door on the right side of the hall. The hallway intersects a larger hall here. There is a short hall that has three large, iron wheels, like ship’s wheels, set into the wall. In the opposite direction the hallway continues to a dead end at a large set of double doors. Between you and the double doors are two sets of iron bars. These iron bars have no doors.
Starker:<muttering to self>”righty flighty, lefty hefty? … No, that’s not correct. Widdershins, middle shins? No, no indication of an odd number of lower legs … really no reason to choose one way or the other … Cyrus?”
<looks to the spider monkey atop the mindflayer’s skull decorating Starker’s staff. Cyrus completes a surpaingly elegant clockwise pirrouette. Starker shriga, and attempts to turn the wheel clockwise.>
The wheel rotated and the sounds of a mechanism could be heard behind it, inside the wall. There seemed to be a point at which some mechanical condition was met and the "*clunk*" sound. The other wheels may be connected into the same mechanism and a unified action between them is needed.
Somewhere in the distance you hear the scraping of what sounds like metal on stone and the slamming of a door.
Can we tell from which direction the noise is coming from? perception 10
No. It is echo-y
Yartol points down the hall he and Chadwick stand in front of, “I think this way, Xymox.”
“Lead on Sir Chadwick, let’s continue down the corridor.”
group assembled, any objections?

Starker:”Puzzling. <chortles> I think I would have enjoyed the company of Illiandil or at least that of his architect.”
<moves to wheels and prepares to start spinning them>
”I wonder what will happen if I spin this one?”
<grasps eastern one, looks to see if anyone objects>
Xymox looks at Starker and shrugs with indifference.
<I’m afk for rest of weekend. Feel free to make Starker do his Starker thing.>
The wheel has freedom to spin in both directions. Which way does Starker turn the wheel?

The wheel rotates clockwise. You hear the sound of a mechanism behind the wheel as it rotates. There is a “^clunk*” sound.
No other effect is noted.
Kragen attempts to assist Starker to discern how the mechanism works, watching, listening and fiddling where it makes sense.

Kragen tells Starker to turn the next wheel clockwise the same amount, or assists him in doing so.
Starker turns the far right wheel clockwise. Another “*clunk*” occurs.
Now the center and far right wheels have been turned.
