A tremendous THUMP echoes from the doors. But, the magic holds. The doors remain sealed.
Serethia seems to shrink a bit, she is clearly at the extent of her abilities at this point, "Please, we need to get out of here. There is little else I can do."
“Let’s get back to the room and see if we can find an exit.”, “I recognize you are intrigued by the sword Sir Chadwick, we can take it and identify its use after we find a way back to our plane.”
“let’s post someone at the bottom of the stairs to keep watch on their progress at the door. The others can search the room.”
”I suggest Yartol, Chadwick and Brother Kellen keep watch. The others may have more capability in searching the room.”
Kragen descends the stairs and heads back to the room.
”what have we found so far?” Looks to Trolkarl, Xymox, Serethia, Starker?
Once everyone stops paying attention to the fight at the top of the stairs you see that the wall has reformed. The same oval shaped depression is in the center of it.
Starker answers, "Father Kragen, I found the most interesting set of books in the NW bookcase. A very curious red, silk envelope as well. All is dusted in a bright red powder that I am not sure what to make of at this point."
“Were you able to read the book? What was in the red envelope? When you say everything was dusted, meaning all artifacts in the bookcase had red dust on them?”
”what of the chests? Were you able to get them open?”
“Were you able to read the book? What was in the red envelope? When you say everything was dusted, meaning all artifacts in the bookcase had red dust on them?”
”what of the chests? Were you able to get them open?”
Xymox: "We were about to use dispel magic on the chest, but heard the all of the commotion and didn't get a chance. I propose that either Starker or myself make the attempt." He looks at Starker. "I could attempt it, but I'm not as skilled as the good mage."
“We have detected a magic warding on one or all of the chests? Have we investigated the sword, so nicely displayed? Would this room have been a location for Illiandils treasure?”
Kragen moves to investigate the time and red envelope.
Kragen inspects the shelves in the NW corner of the room with Starker. He finds:
The shelves are neat, organized, and covered in fine red dust. Titles are embossed in gold or silver. Many are in languages you cannot read. Several titles are legible:
Principia Arcanum: The Nine Pillars of Magic - Meta magic treatise
The Bound Sigil - Authored by Kellistor
On the Dissolution of the Soul — anonymous work; banned in most arcane colleges
“Were you able to read the book? What was in the red envelope? When you say everything was dusted, meaning all artifacts in the bookcase had red dust on them?”

Xymox: "We were about to use dispel magic on the chest, but heard the all of the commotion and didn't get a chance. I propose that either Starker or myself make the attempt." He looks at Starker. "I could attempt it, but I'm not as skilled as the good mage."
Serethia responds to Xymox, "I, too, can Dispel Magic. Though doing so will leave me with a single level 1 spell slot."
Kragen reaches for the silk envelope and picks it up. Within he finds three documents with magical writing upon them. They appear to be arcane spell scrolls.
Chadwick waits in the other chamber where he can keep an eye on the rest of the company, but still watch the door. He stays outside the summoning circle, just in case. He moves through his forms with the halberd as he gets bored waiting for something to happen.
/OOC I moved folks generally where I thought they were. Update if you want to be somewhere else.
Serethia walks to the SW corner of the room, examining the books there. These volumes radiate a faint chill. Chains once wrapped around some of them but now hang loose. The writing is cramped and interspersed with sketches of alien worlds and anatomical diagrams of demons.
Catalogue of the Infinite Maw
Treatise on the Weaving of Planes
Scripture of the Broken Star
3 Scrolls are found among the books. Serethia studies them and determines that they are Summon Greater Demon (x2) and Banishment, Arcana checks = 15, 30 and 32.
Kragen turns to Starker. “Maybe the scroll can be used in the chest to avoid depletion of resources?”
noricing he has red dust on his hands and tunic, attempts to brush it off as best he could. Noticing Serethia at the southwest corner, moves to Northeast bookcase and investigates.
The books here are irregular and many appear swollen, as if moisture once soaked them from within. Jars of powders, unguents, and liquids sit atop the shelves.
Kragen calls attention over to the arcane spell casters. He is still working at removing the red dust. It seems to multiply. He thinks one area is clean and moves to another, only to find the first area still has the dust.
He then inspects the contents of the SE shelves. Bound in gray leather and bone clasps, these books pulse faintly with inner luminescence when touched. A faint vibration fills the air here.
frowns with concern at the odd behavior of the red dust, voices his concern to others. “I am significantly concerned that I am unable to remove this dust, it actually seems to be multiplying??” Looks concerned.
moves to investigate the Northeastern most chest for traps and locked condition.

Kragen places the ring back into the depression.
The wall melts away again.

Kragen will open the red silk envelope
Kragen reaches for the silk envelope and picks it up. Within he finds three documents with magical writing upon them. They appear to be arcane spell scrolls.
Starker then examines the scrolls, Arcana checks = 23, 21 and 13. They are scrolls of Arcane Lock, Dispel Magic, and Counterspell.
Both Kragen and Starker note that they now have the red powder dusted on their hands and clothes.
Chadwick waits in the other chamber where he can keep an eye on the rest of the company, but still watch the door. He stays outside the summoning circle, just in case. He moves through his forms with the halberd as he gets bored waiting for something to happen.

Kragen examines the bookshelves of the NE corner.
The books here are irregular and many appear swollen, as if moisture once soaked them from within. Jars of powders, unguents, and liquids sit atop the shelves.
1d4 sealed vials labelled Abyssal Reagent
Kragen communicates to Starker and Serethia what he found, if they have any interest. Then moves to examine the bookcase on the Southeast Corner.
