Reuniting the Band

Starker says, "Thinking out loud, but there must be some way to interact with the phylactery.  Illiandil would need to be able to do so from time to time it would seem.  How would that be set up to allow him to not be drawn into the floor or blasted by the Ruby Death Ray?"

Flight or teleportation would be easy for him. 
But avoiding the death ray is another matter.

 He did not.  It seemed to be a reaction to his attempt to Dispel it.

"I agree, we do seem to have the means to bypass the floor (trap), however, it appears the Phylactery is protected by a ward of some kind?" Starker:  “perhaps an entity attuned to the Staff is granted access. I am willing to attune to the Staff. If I should succomb to any ill-effects you might be concerned about, no doubt Sir Chadwick can knock me out with his halberd. 

“I would also be willing to wear the crown and put on the ring, in case the whole ensemble is required.

“in the meanwhile, please stand back as I try to ascertain whether Mage Hand or Jievs can help.

“another thought is that we unstopper the flasks or release the trapped being from the Soul Gem and enlist their aid.

“finally, the Titan’s sword fragment seems puissant  perhaps it could be used to move the rod?”

Conjuration is suppressed.  No Hand.  Jieves is on vacation.

Starker: “Please hand me the Staff, Crown, and Ring. I will first make the attempt without attunement, as time is somewhat of the essence.”

"How about I try it first?" Chadwick gathers up the crown and staff. He hands Trolkarl his halberd "keep her safe".

"Last time I got about here" points with staff "before sinking into the floor. I'll tie a rope on myself, y'all can yank me out if I fall through again.

Objections?"   

Looking at Starker, "Other than you taking the evil soul possessing staff." He says it while chuckling, but with a voice that says he's it's not an option.

Off handed he adds; "I could always blast it with lighting, but I think that's more of last ditch effort approach.

Start with the ring and or the crown. 

I seem to recall hearing some kind of warning about the staff. One of us in particular was directly warned while back in Waterdeep about the staff. And the warning wasn’t: be careful and stay close to Chadwick so he can knock you out if you act strange.  

We are desperate times and all… but let’s start small. We only needed the ring to enter the door and not the entire ensemble. Maybe this is the same. 

Starker: “I find you lack of faith … disturbing.”

”I can cast Protection from Evil on you before you make the attempt if you think it will help should you need to tread floor.”

Starker is casting Prot from Ev on Sir Chadwick if SirChad wants. 

"Thank you Starker, I'll take whatever help I can get.

I fell through with only the ring, so let's try it with everything this time." Shrugs.

Chadwick ties a rope around himself, then hands the other end to Yartol. Then takes off all his gear except for his armor and one long sword.

"Can we get a couple of other folks to help anchor. I'm still carrying a bit of weight with me."

Once the spell has been cast Chadwick says a quick prayer to Tyr, then proceeds towards the phylactery. He'll use the staff to probe in front of him testing for the solidity of the floor.

Starker casts Protection from Evil and Good upon Sir Chadwick.  Chadwick approaches the phylactery carrying the staff, the ring and the crown.  He tap-tap-taps on the floor, as he is wont to do.  As he gets halfway across the room, the floor again liquefies and the beings reach up to drag him down into the floor.  Chadwick makes a DC16 DEX save = 18 to avoid being pulled into the floor again.  The beings continue to grasp for him as he quickly dances back to the hallway.

"You shouldnt be disappointed based on your previous record of decision making Mage Starker. This would be best handled by followers of Tyr, with your expert support of course. We would not want to put you in harms way, given your present frailty."

Well, perhaps it is time for some outside the box thinking. 

Starker, you were warned you were not ready. Only one way to prove that assessment was wrong. If you are confident, I’m not going to doubt you. 

Starker:”It will take an hour. The sooner I start, the sooner we can conduct the experiment.  While you are deciding, I will read through this book of Illiandil’s death, looking for clues. Hand me the rod when all else have failed.”

sits down, pulls out the codex mortis, and investigates (if necessary, cast comprehend languages).

"-&_$@-^£%*&!!! Ugh, that's really disturbing. Kragen, we really need to figure out a way to free those beings.

"So, uuh, wanna me to blast it with a lighting bolt? It's no Starker bolt, but.." he trails off shrugging.

Kragen is not comfortable with the Greedy, not himself Starker having access to powerful artifacts. Once we have exercised his demons, he can play with all the evil, powerful artifacts he wants <under guided supervision>. :)

I propose Kragen, via the ceiling, with the crown, ring and wand. He had the wand on him on last approach so Crown and Ring may do the trick.
