"A day ago, you say," the captain repeats your information. "No rain since then," he states. "I could have one of my scouts join you to assist in following any tracks they may have left. Would you be interested in that?"
A bold frontal assault on the guard towers is successful. The alerted orcs and giant then come for you from the longhouse. Using ranged fire you soften them up and finish all of them in close combat. The box canyon is now clear of any activity. Only the bleating of the sheep and the rush of the waterfall can be heard off in the distance.
Kragen gathers the group together, post Warg kill. Tends to the wounded. “I know we are weary, however let’s pray together for the healing powers of the Justice Bringer.” Begins to pray “Justice Bringer, shine your light upon these brave souls…”
Trolkarl bows to Kragen. Looks up and points toward the manticore's lair
Starker, I just saw the same cloaked figure you mentioned. Up near the lair moving in the cover of trees. Maybe an elf.
If he were allied with this giant, he could have tried to alert the camp while we plotted our movement along the the gate. Elves and giants not normally allies anyway. hmmm... What sort of intentions does he have up there?

Were the two sightings in the same location or the same vicinity? If the same vicinity, were they close enough that we have a general location to investigate?
My inclination is to go have a look around after we get all the loot from the hill giant’s abode.
Starker: “Well! That was invigorating! As it seems the owner of this land no longer has any use for any of it other than some volume in the dirt six foot deep I propose we see if there is an opportunity for us to take over the establishment. Seems only just, provided the penultimate rightful owner doesn’t step forth. We should go quickly to where we saw the field hands being herded and release them and ask them where any treasure might be.
”Though I do wonder about something: everything seems orderly and well thought out about the arrangements here in this box canyon. Neither seems to me to be the hallmarks of Hill Giant domesticity. We might want to be on the lookout for the ‘brains’ of the operation.”
Sounds the Monkey recall to get Cirrus Magnus back from wherever he hid himself
Goes outside palisade and whistles and gesticulates wildly to try to get Scouty the Dwarf to bring our horses over. If that doesn’t work goes to help. Then, with anyone else interested, heads to the SW corner of the box canyon.
Before he heads out Starker says “I do apologize for having wasted the Potion Fire Breath. I though three bouts of flame would help deal with the giant and his pet, and wanted to not waste time imbibing when they fell upon us. In the event, it wasn’t necessary. I would understand if in the distribution of the bounty from our adventures here you decremented mine by the fair value of the potion.”
Cirrus returns as he is called. He clambers atop the hill giant and capers about upon its head. Starker is able to gain the attention of the scout. He proceeds to the gate house with all of your mounts.
Concur with searching the dead, then heading out towards the long houses and see if there is a mastermind there. I think it's likely the giant just wandered in and took over the place and didn't really do any estate planning.
The 'elf' will make it's presence known when it wants. It's seen us kill the giants and guards, so should be obvious where are alliances are. If it doesn't want to be found I don't think we will in those mountains.
"Starker, no worries about the potion. It was a good plan and I'm not sorry combat ended sooner than we thought."
Jinks reminded me that Chadwick tossed his bow under the platform when switching weapons at one point. He'll recover that before we head out.
You search these orcs and the giant. The orcs are carrying no treasure, just like the ones from the ambush. The giant is filthy and disgusting. He is wearing a belt with animal skins as a loin cloth. A sack is attached to the belt holding another two boulder. It was carrying an uprooted tree as a weapon.
Ride towards settlement. Find serfs. If they are guarded kill guards. Free serfs. Talk to serfs. Find and take Archmage’s Staff of Infinite Power. Attune to same. etc.

”before we investigate the remainder of the camp”

Gneuman thanks Kragen then turns to Trolkarl.
"This elf is certainly a mystery. I agree, it seems that he means us no harm. At any rate, he has chosen not to interfere."
"Let us quickly search the dead for anything useful, then make our way to aid these people and gather information on what exactly happened here."
"We can do a full inspection of the area when we are certain that everything has been secured."
Well said cousin, I am ready!

(( Elf? Sightings labeled 1 and 2 on box canyon map. ))
Still can't get into maps. 😐
You should be able to now.

“let us gather the camp folk, investigate the reminder of the camp and interview them to discern what went on here.”
”recommend we clear the building to ensure there are no other evil naredowells.”
“We can start with the longhouse and then clear the homes to the south.”
/plans?
Starting with the longhouse sounds good to me.
Chadwick will have an arrow nocked, but not raise his bow while advancing to try and avoid appearing too aggressive.
