Let’s approach from the north of the camp, using the path. Scout the long house, if two entrances, setup in teams with melee and ranged on each group. Enter and smash bad guys.
The canyon remains quiet as you proceed down the dirt road from the gates to the longhouse. No activity is seen from the village area. The sheep and the pigs are heard bleating and oinking appropriately. The longhouse is quiet. There is a large set of double doors on the front of the house that remain ajar. You circle around and find another door on the back side of the long house.
The waterfall cascades down from the mountain to fall about 90-100 feet into the pool below. Water splashes across the rocks and settles into a clear pond. A stream empties the pond to your left and then turns to disappear into a cave mouth on the south side of the canyon.
Many of the trees that are here have been chopped down. The majority of this activity appears to be recent. There are a few cows and horses seen milling about the canyon as well.
Unless someone objects I’ll send Cyrus Magnus, MMM, into the longhouse through the open doors while I share his vision and hearing. “Please watch over me as I will be unaware of my surroundings whilst using my familiar as a scout in this manner.”
Send CM MMM to peak in the longhouse. What do he/I see/hear?
The murder monkey quietly peers into the main room of the longhouse. There are tables with benches set up in the close half of the room. A long table with large chairs sits on the opposite wall. The heads of two great, horned beasts hang on the far wall. Large fireplaces with hearths sit on the right and left walls. There are windows with closed wooden shutters. Blood stains are all over the floor in the center of the room. In the corners are large piles of refuse, bones, trash, broken furniture and other filth. The ceiling is vaulted and supported by four columns made of great trees. There are two doors on the opposite wall. It stinks of death and other filth to a great extent. Cirrus' nose burns with the odor.
You enter the main room through the double doors. It is foul inside. The stink of body odor, death, excrement and rot all combine into a toxic assault on your nostrils. Nothing is moving. There are two doors on the opposite wall. Piles of refuse, bones and filth are in each near corner. Four windows with closed wooden shutters are seen, two on each side. Two large fireplaces with hearths are present with low fires in each. Wood is piled by each fireplace. The trophy heads of two great horned beasts hang on the opposite wall.
Does the large room have the furnishings as depicted on the map, such as a large chest? If so, Hoid will investigate the chest (17, rolled 18-1) to check for traps. If none, he will open the chest (if not locked).
The door opens up to a large room that appears to be a bedchamber. There is a large pile of animal skins. These do not appear to have been cleaned and scraped appropriately so the smell of rot is strong from these. A large chest, a table and chair are in the room. A blood covered cleaver sits on a blood stained table. There are bits and pieces of flesh and sinew seen dried on the table surface. A fireplace has a low fire burning in it. Another of the large columns is here supporting the roof.
Hoid investigates the chest. It has a lock mechanism and a latch to hold it closed. No traps are apparent. He tries the latch and the chest opens up. Inside the chest are several nice dresses and two sets of nice clothing for a man along with shoes to match. There is a beautiful woven woolen blanket with geometric and animal patterns. Under all of this you find two matching silver chalices (25g each).
how many field hands/serfs/ captives had been working iut in the fields when we glanced them from a kile away before they were herded. Did any of us happen to note where they were being herded? Starker recognizes that his companions may be anxious to find them and will likely insist on doing so before taking a long rest. “My magical reserves are near spent and if the manticore, 16 orcs, hill giant and warg are not the only foes I will soon be reduced to making the remaining malfeasants sense the smell of freshly mown grass as we melee.”
You estimated more than a dozen, maybe less than two dozen people working. About the same amount watching them and milling about the village area.
Gneuman will walk slowly to the nearest group of people with his hands open, in order to convey friendliness.
"My good people, we mean you no harm. What has happened here?"
There is no one visible outside of the huts/buildings.
The estimation of people was what you witnessed when observing the canyon from above and when you attacked at the gates. During the fight, everyone cleared the open areas and fled to the village area and into the buildings.

Recall monkey, come to senses, report to party what we saw.

Long House
Chadwick puts away his bow and pulls out his Lucerne hammer.
"It's not going to be pleasant, but we're going to have to clear all the buildings.
As he makes his way to open the door he chuckles, mostly to himself, "ah the glory and prestige of being a knight."
“Sounds like a grim scene and outcome here, no combatants reported.” “Frontal entry then, with Sir Chadwick and Cousin Hoid?”

Hoid will open the shutters on the windows and then head toward the door on the right. If unlocked, he will open the door.
The door is unlocked and opens easily to reveal a large room beyond.

(( Others are with Hoid? Doing something else? ))
Chadwick is also in the long house. He'll look over the remains and see if there might be humanoids mixed in.
Definitely. In fact, exclusively.
Chadwick says somberly and quietly, but loud enough for Kragen to hear.
"My brother, would you please join me in giving last rites to these poor unfortunate souls?
Assuming Kragen will take the lead since it is more his purview, Chadwick will assist and pray along with him.
Placing his hand on Kragen's should; "thank you, hopefully it will give them some measure of peace."
He then says low and dangerously "No quarter will be given to those who aided in this butchery".
He stalks out with murder in his eyes heading towards the huts.
