The Company ascends the elevator to the middle deck. Above you is the upper deck which can been seen by those with Darkvision to be about 50' up from where you are located. That deck is a solid disk, ceiling above you everywhere you can see.
Meganephos states, "Something approaches from the SE. Multiple somethings."
Hoid nods in agreement. “Let us send up everyone except Gneuman and Trolkarl in the first group. If something unfortunate happens, they have abilities to get to the second level without the elevator.”
The Company splits up, as usual. All but Trolkarl and Gneuman go to the middle tier. The rest then lower the platform and bring up Trolkarl and Gneuman.
”They draw close,” Metanephos states as he looks to the SE of your location.
(( Please keep the map scale in mind. It is 20’ per square. This is a strategic level map. If we go to a combat, it will change to a new map with 5’ per square scale . ))
Are you standing still, waiting for something to come to you? Or, going to investigate?
Hoid’s prior movement was as close to one round (50’) as practicable given map resolution, with the intent of being the tip of the spear.
“Let’s move forward and investigate what Meganephos senses. We have been hired to clean this place out and I doubt what ever it is will just leave if we ask nicely.”
Hoid begins moving toward whatever wicked things are coming.
The Company heads into the darkness, towards the movement described by Meganephos. You carefully pick your way through the debris of the area. You notice a new component to the debris, large chunks of black rocks. These turn out to be coal upon closer evaluation. These become more prevalent the further you move into this quadrant of the tier. You see what appear to be relatively intact structures ahead of you in the darkness. Well, everyone but Starker and Chadwick see them. They are 20-30 feet tall and domed. The paving of the floor is different now. It appears that you have entered a circular area of new paving stones. Meganephos halts and whispers, "I can see movement ahead, moving among the structures ahead. Big things."
Starker, looking at The Company’s arrangement, bemusedly mutters:”Every night, before I go to bed, I fervently wish that on the morrow I encounter a clump of foes so foolish as to invite communal destruction by Fireball or Ice Storm by huddling together like piglets on a sow’s teats.”
casts firebolt at the furthest lump of coal Cyrus can see in the direction Meganephos has indicated. Intent is to spend time before combat starts making light sources for those of us who can’t see in the dark unaided.
You seem to have left them behind you.
Starker in Draconic:”That depends on many unknowns. If they are all grouped withn a fireball’s span, for instance.
“During this break in the precipitation of pain lets go up so we can kill them before my brain leaks out my ears.”

Trolkarl focuses on Darkbane and performs a rite to draw on its power while awaiting the lift to go up and return
free-rules, pg. 154
Once per Long Rest, you can perform an esoteric rite for 1 minute, regaining up to 1 expended Pact Magic spell slots.
If Hoid cannot see what Meganephos says is approaching, he will use tremor sense.
(Can riders of the elevator also power the lift mechanism from the moving platform or is that activated at the fixed portion of each level?)
Fixed gears at each level.
Activated. Nothing sensed in range.
(( This is Hoid’s second use? ))
Chadwick will get our his bow and nock and arrow. Holding his action until he sees someone to shoot.
Yes
Hoid moved to the other side of the group.
Starker, recalling himself, moves west, monkey on shoulder.

Bump in the Dark
Everyone can take an action.
Then, it is my turn.....

Hoid moves forward to (hopefully) engage the enemy and spread out to make a less AoE target rich environment.
