Hoid moves to look into the passage beyond and sees an enlarged cave. There are boxes, crates, barrels and sacks in piles along the wall he can see. A dim glow from a likely fire comes from the right, just out of vision. Nothing is moving.
Trolkarl takes up position and sees nothing moving from that direction. He thinks about the whistle. It’s sound would likely be lost after a short distance.
the goblin looks to Erbert in fear. It is speaking quickly, “Spare me…..no hurt….no fire use.” At first it is not hearing Erbert. Then changes its response a bit, “Klarg come…kill me….,” it says looking at the cave entrance beyond Hoid. It becomes more frantic looking to Erbert, “..spare me…..no hurt.”
Noticing Hoid needs some of his wounds tended, moves to him, inspects the damage. As he is bandaging several areas, "May the light of Tyr shine upon you this day"
“Who is Klarg, and where is he? Maybe, you could stay with us and tell us what lies ahead? Start with telling us more about Klarg..”. Erbert keeps glaring at the goblin. “What’s your name?”

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
While Erbert is interrogating the goblin and Hoid and Trolkarl vigilantly watch the entrances, they will move over to the pools and investigate their construction, use and the mechanics of the water management. My intent is to discern their use/purpose and other clues that might be if interest.
Hoid and Gneuman look over the pools. There are two pools created with walls of fieldstone mostly containing the water in normal circumstances. The lowest point of each pool has a pile of stones that look smaller than the rest of the walls. These appear to have been torn down to release the water as one mass rather than having it trickle through the walls. Otherwise, it appears to be a natural spring coming from the wall and running through the cave as a stream.

Apologize all, that should have been Kragen will investigate the pools. Not “they” meaning Hoid and Trolkarl. Using cell phones are challenging for me at this age!!😜

Hoid, to the group, “There will be no more water surges. They were caused when we entered the tunnel. How did the goblins know when to break a damn to causes the first surge of water just as we entered the cave? Do they have a way to observe our actions? The curve of the tunnel does not allow line of sight from this chamber to the cave entrance and there was no goblin on the bridge when we entered the cave—at least I saw none” (Were we allowed to see the bridge when we entered the cave?)
Game play question: what do we know about hobgoblins? Are they, and their habits, generally known to society? Or do any party members have specific knowledge and are they willing to share?
Perhaps scrying. Could we have been triggered by some alarm mechanism that washed away? We were not sure if we triggered a trap or poor building initially.
Erbert, can you see if he knows anything about the demon servant Cradock or the human red cloaked bandits. And how did he learn elvish of all things?
Erbert translates ((feel free to ask directly and DM answer, if ok with everyone)) and awaits the goblins reply, then says to the others “He says someone named “Ripper” is with Klarg always, and sometimes other goblins. I don’t know what or who “Ripper” is, but that doesn’t sound good. A bodyguard I would suppose. Not “Silver Tongue”, or “Wise One”. Ripper. Yeah. So there’s that.” He turns back to Bronk, and says “Do you know of one named Craddock, if Klarg knows him, or of any men in Red Cloaks? Hey, by the way, who taught you elvish?”

-Craddick has now shown up in Luskan and here is Shalecliff? So there is a tie with the sewers and here.
-I think we have evidence here and back in the sewers but of an elvish tie. Message in Drow, goblins speak broken elvish. I also thought I read that Luskan has a robust Drow population. Someone please check?
-are ther any ties to the missing persons? Capt Taggerty, Cleggor Stonejaw, others?
-red cloaks obviously mean something, but what?
-besides this area, there were attacks on farmers northwest of Shalecliff.
i am sure I am Missing other key clues so feel free to share. Maybe we should keep a log and add to it as we define significant information? Not sure how to do this succinctly?
Bronk kids, “Red cloaks, yes. Red cloaks come….take things….red cloak camp.” He looks at you and blinks when you mention Craddock. You don’t have much experience talking with goblins. But, this seems to be an unspoken communication of some kind.
Then he sits up with his chest out, “Bronk know elf talk….from elves. Bronk hide and watch. Come back…..tell what seen heard to chief. Raids better. Chief happy. Bronk learn.”
He then looks agitated again and fidgety. “Now Klarg kill Bronk!”
Writing this while I’m thinking about it, for after the interrogation is over.
We have Klarg, Ripper and most likely at least one goblin waiting in the next room. Klarg and Ripper sound like bigger threats. If we assault the next room, it looks relatively wide open from what we can see so far. I propose that our three best range damage dealers get a blessing from Kragen (1d4 bonus to hit, lasts during concentration) and focus fire on the biggest threat for at least one round. Consider who the best 3 ranged damage dealers (that need to roll to hit) are. Hoid has a longbow and is +4 to hit and +2 to damage.
Question for Bronk: What elves did you watch?

“I dont care what language they speak, there is not value in evil”
Would have been more surprised if he spoke Bocce…. maybe No, that is odd! Something fishy

For expediency, I will assume Erbert provides real time interpretation instead of being snarky strictly in Elvish.
Hoid: “Erbert, press him on Klarg. It appears we are in the clear from this direction, at least for the time being.”
Noticing Hoid needs some of his wounds tended, moves to him, inspects the damage. As he is bandaging several areas, "May the light of Tyr shine upon you this day"

The goblin raises his hand slowly and points at the cave where the fleeing goblin ran, “Klarg…”
“Klarg is…. goblin? Who you?” Erbert pokes his chest with a little finger. ((Erbert translates for anyone who wants to ask questions.))

Wrt the current situation.
-we have evidence that they can monitor our position. We should probably assume this throughout the encounter.
-we still have a contingent behind us and some more serious question encounters going forward.
-evidence of sophisticated traps and combat detergents. I.e. ambush bush, water, wolves.
once Erbert has gathered enough intelligence, we should prepare our plan of continued clearing the cave system.
Here are some clues with the current campaign.
