Starker:”This tome is important, but it will take many days to glean its value. Let me just check it for hodden compartments like the in which we found the tuning fork.”
Serethia accepts the miniature chest with a “Thank you.” She turns her back to you and whispers something over the chest while exaggeratedly touching it with an extended left index finger. There is a soft POP as a large chest that is a copy of the miniature chest appears at her feet. You can see a visible sigh of relief come from her.
Serethia opens the chest with another murmured word. Inside, things are a bit jumbled. You can see a thick book and another, loosely folded clothes, some vials, a dagger, glimpses of trade bars (10lb bars) of gold and silver, was that a platinum trade bar as well?
She pulls out the clothes and stands up, looking at the rest of you. "A bit of privacy, please," she says with a level stare. Brother Kellen quickly moves over to stand in front of her, turning his back to her and facing the rest of you. She then changes out of her rags into a much more fashionable outfit with loose pants, a form fitting blouse, and a robe that fastens in the front with many pockets inside. She buckles the dagger's sheath to her belt and places a fine looking dagger within. Her wand has a long pocket in one sleeve of her blouse. She discards the rags. She arranges the contents of the chest a bit and removes two vials that are placed into pockets in the cloak. "There is room in here if you would like to store any of the items you have accumulated along the way. It should be safe in here."
Serethia gives a small curtsy, "Of course. This is an excellent manner for transporting tomes. I highly recommend you fashioning one."
Another resounding crash from the wall. That mukbok spell caster is making headway. Yartol looks to the rest of you, "Any ideas on getting us out of here?"
A large table sits at the edge of the rug made of other exotic woods with silver inlays. Resting atop that table is a great sword cradled in two wooden stands. It is bare, with its scabbard also held by the stands. The sword is a high quality weapon and your eyes feel drawn to it.

If this is not the crazy AF sword that Chadwick was messing with, Xymox will pick it up. Otherwise, he will leave it alone.
(( This is the sword that Chadwick has spoken about. But, if you were interested in picking it up it will welcome that. It is a sword. It wants to be used for sword stuff. ))
Serethia addresses the group, "What is your exit strategy? Ours was using a scroll of Plane Shift that my," a brief pause, "colleague possessed. He became separated from us during an attack by the mukbok. They carried him away. Now, I think he was targeted by Illiandil to prevent the rest of us from leaving." She looks about, "So, what was your plan? Is it still possible to use?" She looks about waiting for an answer.
Brother Kellen clears his throat, "The Order sent us to take out this lich. We had a wizard among our group who possessed an amulet that would allow our escape from this plane. He is no more." He then looks to The Company for your answer.
Serethia adds, "And, what of the phylactery? If that is what it is in that room. What of that? Illiandil will reform his body and be rightly pissed you all took his staff and other toys. I am sure the ring and crown are important to him as well."

Consulting Chadwick regarding his experience with the sword...if there is a way to safely stow away the sword without being subjected to its will, Xymox will do that. It would be a shame to leave it.
Starker examines all the as-yet-unidentified scrolls
arcana rolls 12, 23, 11, 15
if any remain unidentified will take another shot or ask Ser to try.
All found scrolls have been examined. You have found scrolls of: Speak with Dead, False Life, Arcane Lock, Counterspell, Gate, Dispel Magic, Animate Dead. All scrolls are now in the Party Inventory.
(( In the past, scrolls have been delineated as Priest or Wizard. Now, if it is on your spell list you can read the scroll. ))
Kragen looks at Serethia with a steely stare “We are done being adversarial know that you have your worldly belongings? Good, I was hoping you would recognize that our goodwill is why your not hanging like a piece of meat.” Looks away briefly frustrated that he allowed his anger to lash out at their lack of situational awareness. “Regardless, we will all share the same fate if we don’t work together.”
”embarrassingly, we have no exit strategy. One of The Companies endearing traits is our lack of planning. However we have recovered a Scroll embued with the Gate spell, which I can employ. If we can remove the conjuration block, I can attempt to use it.”
”We also desire to remove, actually destroy his Phylactery. We have attempted however it is warded with powerful magic. Our fine Mage has discerned that there are 2 keys to allow Illiandil to bypass the ward. We had thought it was his ring and the crown, however our attempts were rebuffed. Nothing in the chests, seem to provide clues.”
looking at the false wall “and it appears we are running out of time.” Then looks to brother Kellen “this amulet you say, what did it look like?”
Brother Kellen seems to startle a bit at being addressed, "What.....oh. Sorry. Yes, Keorgh's amulet. It is, well, was a circular disc of gold with eldritch runes inscribed around the perimeter. In the center was set a brilliant emerald of the deepest green. But, it and Keorgh are no more. Disintegrated when we faced Illiandil."
Serethia responds to Kragen, "I was not the one withholding the other's possessions with questions in my mouth. And, I said please. I am, and will be eternally grateful for however long our lives last. But I will name mine as mine."
Yartol looks to Kragen, "The wall did not fall simply by bringing the ring close to it. You had to press it into the depression. The wall did fall if you bring it close from this side. But, look," he points to the wall, "no depression on this side."
Serethia makes her way to the lower left book shelves. These volumes radiate a faint chill. Chains once wrapped around some of them but now hang loose. The writing is cramped and interspersed with sketches of alien worlds and anatomical diagrams of demons. Three titles stand out among the rest: Catalogue of the Infinite Maw, Treatise on the Weaving of Planes, and Scripture of the Broken Star. She also finds three more scrolls. Working with Starker they decipher them to be Summon Greater Demon x 2 and Banishment.
Starker hands her the wee ornate box and returns to his study of the tome.
Starker:”This tome is important, but it will take many days to glean its value. Let me just check it for hodden compartments like the in which we found the tuning fork.”
investigation = 25.
The tome has no hidden compartments.

Starker unencumbers himself of the tomes that are encumbering him and places them in the chest.
”Thank you. I was overburdened and would have been less able to run away than is my custom should danger arise.”
Serethia gives a small curtsy, "Of course. This is an excellent manner for transporting tomes. I highly recommend you fashioning one."

Is it safe to put that blade that Chadwick grabbed into the chest? Only until we come across the next bottomless pit or volcano.
No one has touched the sword on the table.
Xymox will grab it? This is what kind of sword is it?
Never mind. I didn't realize that it was the "Shady AF" sword.
