"This is certainly a strange place, I have no clue where to set off toward. A word of caution Liafial, luggin this mirror around might make us... a bit conspicuous. Think of its value. "
Dril is scouring his mind for an explanation of his situation, surely, he tells himself, he has learned of plane shifts and teleportation.
Nodrus: Peering through the mists as you land in this new, strange place, your eyes focus on the branches that sweep around the clearing. They bow at impossible angles, almost like... archways. They seem to shift as you realize this, blinking to make sure it's not an illusion. This only makes the paths clearer, marked by the arching tree branches like great hallways, one heading towards the brighter light and one heading towards the darker violet sky.
Clermar: Looking around this alien landscape, you don't see any immediate threat. The occasional blinking lights in the distance arouse your suspicicion, but they don't seem to get any close or show any signs of danger. The only thing you do pick up on, is the faintest sound of music, drifting through the woods from the direction of the orange sky. The tune sounds upbeat, and as you strain to hear more you can just barely hear the sounds of shouts and laughter breaking through.
Franz: There is a nice pile of soft looking moss right at the base of the statue, providing a fantastically plush seat.
Dril: In your studies, you know that planar travel used to be quite common, and this experience is textbook. You also know that planar travel has been theoretically impossible since the creation of the Rift Lock, a magic barrier which prevents planar travel. That this mirror seems to have flung you to another plane is groundbreaking. As for which plane you now stand on, you have no clue. Specific knowledge of any of the other planes has been mostly lost to the ages.
"Ah, when are we going to get moving? I need some civilisation, this place is a little to rustic for my tastes."
Looking down at his hand for the first time since coming through the mirror, Franz sighs, before casting a spell a few times to clean away the dust and grim from the mine. (Prestidigitation)
Turning to Clermar, Franz answers,
"Hmmm? Oh, no there are no tunnels out of the mine that I know of. Bram and Frank will be along shortly, I'm sure. We don't need to wait for them, they always manage to turn up. They are capable adults, they can look after themselves."
Turning around to look around the clearing Franz adds,
Liafial: Lifting the mirror with one hand, you begin deftly detangling the vines with the other. The plants immediately reach back out, trying to cling to the relic, but you manage to accomplish the task fast enough that they only find the stone hands of the statue to wrap back around.
Nean watches Franz walk away and finally decides to take action. His eyes fixiate on Franz's back of the head, and the "wizard" can suddenly hear him speak in his mind.
Telepathically to Franz:
"So for now you showed us Frank, Franz and Bram. Whats about the fourth one in your repertoire?"
Ospos checks to make sure the contents of his pockets are not spilling out, adjust the hat on his head and makes ready to follow the rest, whichever direction they choose.
At Nean's mental intrusion, Franz whips back around, eyes narrowing. Locking eyes with Nean, Franz sends back, (Awakened Mind)
"What are you blathering about? Bram and Frank aren't here, and we don't have any other associates, excepting those around us. Our other friend Thallan died almost a year ago, so I don't know what you are talking about."
Continuing the conversation in the mind,
"You have training in the psychic arts, interesting. What are your area's of expertise? Myself, I am only trained in the ability to send my thought communication to those near by. Unfortunately my training was cut short before I could learn to receive back any communication from the untrained. For now I must make do with the arcane book left to me by my former trainer."
At Liafial's comment, Franz replies out loud,
"Do not expect me to carry it. My position and training are of a higher status. It would be a waste of my talent to stoop to such activities."
"Honestly, I'm famished and would quite enjoy a party. Maybe someone can inform us about this strange place, I'd love to know more! However, I'm still not at ease with lunking this mirror around. People of this plane will likely know we are strangers and this kind of portal magic might be quite common or even worshiped here."
"Hm, alright. Sorry then. Would you mind telling me about that Thallan fellow? What was he like, and what did he look like? About that psychic thing tho, i never really trained this telepathy thing, it simply started working at somepoint. Same thing about the blades and the vanishing feature, i guess those would most likely go as my qualifications. Beeing able to send things but not listen in on the answers sounds horribly annoying, i'll have to admit that. Since i dont know how it works, i wont be of much help when it comes to learning that though. Did your teacher not leave you any clues or approaches you might be able to work with?"
Nean then joins in about the mirror discussion. "I'm with Liafal. I'm no good at carrying things, but even if the mirror is a portal, it is still the object we we're send to retrieve and we probably need it. It changes things for us though, because i personally dislike giving it over to someone i dont know. We might be handing out the only acces to this miraculous world to the one who wants to destroy it. Also, while i think we should definitely learn more about our surroundings, i propose to take shifts scouting ahead, and possibly also sideways. Judging its presentation here, it might have been some sort of an artefact or a monument we just desolated, meaning that everyone we talk to might turn hostile if he sees us carrying it."
"I can take over carrying it if need be, but like Liafial said I'll need to drop it if we get in a confrontation. Either way, we should get going if they're is a chance we won't have to sleep in the wilderness again."
"Thallan was a fine gentleman. A scribe by trade, well mannered and respected. Thallan offered me help when I first arrived at Solacus. I had literally run for my life all the way from Five Town to Solacus. I was without means, without connections, at my wits end. Thallan took me in and helped me get back on my feet. He introduced me to his other associates, Bram and Frank, and offered me work with his group, doing odds and ends. In truth, I don't much care for the adventuring life, but it is my only option right now."
"Bram tells me Thallan had been hired by some unsavoury fellows that Frank had directed his way. Something went wrong and these ne'er-do-wells came after Thallan and killed him. Bram claims he found Thallan washed up on the banks of the river south east of Solacus."
"Bram's a good fellow, I'm not so sure about Frank though. But better to have friends then to be on your own. We have worked together ever since. Its been just over 9 months now, I believe."
To everyone else, Franz seems lost deep in thought, not paying any attention to what everyone else is talking about.
Looking up as Liafial starts to head in the indicated direction, Franz starts moving again.
"I dearly hope there is some form of civilization ahead. I've had enough roughing it over the last 3 days, I would like a proper bed to sleep in tonight."
As you begin to make your way through the woods, it seems at first that there is no path to go on, but Nodrus strides ahead confidently, and you all eventually see the patterns in the trees, shifting like an optical illusion. The noises of birds and insects grow louder here, as do the sounds of what seem to be a small village. Even so, it almost sneaks up on you, as the buildings seem to be largely carved out of or suspended in large trees.
Dril is amazed, the ripples in the leaves and the strange appearance of the fauna remind him of some extra-curricular experimentation when he was in college.
"... but how did Bram make it out and how did you get in? Wait, there's an open exit! We can just leave on the other side of the mirror."
"This is certainly a strange place, I have no clue where to set off toward. A word of caution Liafial, luggin this mirror around might make us... a bit conspicuous. Think of its value. "

"It almost sounds like there is a party going on that way." He extends his gauntleted hand, pointing toward the orange hued sky.
"That way?"
Franz asks while point in the same direction as Clermar.
"Right then, let's get moving. Don't forget to bring the mirror."
Franz doesn't look back, expecting everyone to follow, and starts striding off in the indicated direction.
