Frank looks a little nervous about the sounds ahead, turning he asks,
"Any of you larger, stronger, more heavily armoured individuals, want to go first? I'm happy to back you up, I just don't want to be the first target."
Frank squeezes one of his slender arms,
"I'm not the most robust individual. Your protection would be much appreciated."
As Clermar and Nodrus push ahead of the group, they eventually come to a soft light emitting from the room ahead. Peeking around the corner, you can see what looks like a crafting room. Large tables are arranged around the space, spread with various trinkets and tools. Patches of glowing fungi grow around these tables, giving the subterranean kobolds just a bit more light for their work. There is a large pile of gems and jewelry on the opposite end of the room, a few feet in front of a set of massive metal doors, clearly dwarven made. They are closed, and scrawled with draconic writing. There is also another passage to the left side of the room. Dril, you can't decipher much more than "hurry!" but you do hear the voices retreating down that tunnel.
Frank: Scanning the room, you don't notice any signs of traps. As you inspect the pile of treasure in the room, you realize that the Kobolds seem to have been scavenging through it. Small wheelbarrows lay next to it, and on the tables, the daft creatures were in the process of removing gems, hammering small pieces of gold, and sorting through what was still valuable and what was broken to be used as scrap and turned into functional pieces.
Dril: The kobold writing scrawled across the doors are clear warnings "Don't enter! Keep closed! Danger!" and the like. While over there, you also notice slight wheel tracks leading from under the door. Your eyes follow them to the nearby pile of treasure, and upon further inspection, you realize that the trinkets are overflowing out of a mining cart, partially buried in the pile. All the treasure seems to have been taken from the room beyond these doors.
Ospos is speechless. His eyes are practically bulging out of their sockets. He is visibly torn between the pile of gems and the sound of the retreating Kobolds.
"If we weren't positive before we can hear them squealing now. Let's get a handful of the valuables and keep going." Clermar goes to grab whatever gems or gold he can quickly pocket before moving toward the doors. "Is it safe to open?" He says to Dril while he is inspecting the doors.
Ospos, never taking his eyes off the gems, responds, "I'd rather not leave enemies to our backs and potentially open a door and have more enemies to our front."
"This is a mine right? So this jewellery must by from the dragon horde, right? I mean you don't normally mine fully formed jewellery from the ground. So then..."
Frank follows the tracks from the pile of gems and jewellery, over to the large doors that Dril is examining,
"...this way is most likely to lead to the rest of the, presumably abandoned, dragon horde. I would guess that no one would be touching the dragon horde if the dragon was still around."
"So then the mirror we are looking for could be beyond these doors."
Looking over at the side passage to the left,
"So do we want to try taking on all of the kobold or do we want to try getting the mirror and getting out with whatever we can carry? If we clear the mine of hostiles, we could easily make a bunch of trips to collect as many valuables as we can find. And looking at what's here, well, we could all do very nicely out of this job. But if there are a large number of kobolds, we may be risking our necks trying to do that."
Ospos grudgingly strips his eyes off the pile of gems and adds, "Yes, I agree. Opening a door to possible danger is not wise when there is known danger to our backs."
Looking back the way the party has come from, Frank remarks,
"I don't think our backs are currently very safe as it is. But I agree with Ospos, we are better off clearing out the dangers that we are sure of, before we add more dangers to our list."
Looking at the others,
"So, that's 3 for methodical clearing of the mine. What about you others, do you agree?"
Ospos says to the party, "Sounds like fun times ahead." After a pause, he adds, "For you guys."
Nervous as ever, Dril casts Blade Ward on himself as the team slowly presses on.

Ospos volunteers to be behind Liafal, thinking: definitely don't want to be in the back if something rushes us from that direction.
"I'll take the lead". nodrus speaks up as he steps to the front of the party, looking around for anything that the Half-Elf might have missed.

They are scrambling to get prepared, we should make this quick and over-take them or slow down and figure out a game plan, throwing them off."

I doubt there is much safety beyond these doors. Our retreating enemy is in the tunnel to the left.
