The base of the statue has a small epitaph written in common at the bottom:
"Here lies Ysmir, greatest of the Horse Lords. His spear emblazone with the power of the sun he struck down many evil foe; his heart full of hope, love, and devotion to his people, he rode first into every battle. His greatest accomplishment was not slaying the Black Dragon Uthod the Nocturnal, of Duskwater, but in founding the village of Cloverdown as a refuge for weary travelers, friends of the forest, and settlement for fellow Horse Lords. The bones of his trusted warhorse, Unity, are buried with him."
Beneath that (for those who made nature rolls) are the purple flowers growing freely about the base. In the areas in between, easily noticeable, are twisted, knotted clumps of roots that pop up in small bunches. They remind you of braided horse hair...
In a small patch to the left of the statue, just beside the mausoleum, something shiny... almost radiant... can be seen tangled in the roots. (Make investigation rolls please)
Aracynth/Fizzbang:
As you descend into the mausoleum the stonework and cobwebs about you deaden most sounds. The heavy footfalls of the paladin and the light flips of the gnome echo across the ceiling, down into the crypts below. The first landing is about 30' down, broadening out as you are now well below the earth. Approximately 25' wide and another 60' to the next set of stairs the old, pockmarked stone seems to shudder in the torch light. You hear nothing, but notice the abundance of cobwebs and small insects scrabbling away from the sudden light. Six columns of coffins, inset into the stone on either side, line the walls and are layered up to the ceiling about 15' above you. Most of them are partially obscured by the dust and webbing that clings lazily to the walls, but they appear to be old, petrified wood. Still silent, this place feels revered and untouched by hands or feet in quite some time.

"What do you think, Fizzbang?" Aracynth regarded the Gnome. "There doesn't seem to be much of note, without delving further, and that was not our goal here today. Best to leave these dead in peace. Come, lets return to the others before Tharin worries himself into an open grave.
That wound on your leg still looks pretty rough; would you like to ride atop my shoulders?"
"You would rather leave now than take a short time to bandage your ribs, or Fizzbang's leg or let me fix the leather strap on my armor that broke during the fight so I can have proper protection if we run into more trouble?"
By digging through the roots, you not only pull some of them up, a thick, milky sap running from them where they break, but you uncover a beautifully wrought javelin. It has a light wooden shaft, perhaps a pine or elm wood, but hard like an oak from age. The butt end is capped with a shiny brass form that resembles a miniature spiked mace, or perhaps a star. The point is also a shiny brazen color, gleaming whatever light it catches and brilliantly displaying it as though the javelin were thrown into the sun itself.
With roots and javelin in hand you notice the sun finally setting below the horizon, a moonlit darkness now creeping in. The purple and maroon hues of the sky in the east reflect beautifully off the javelin through the trees and the night animals begin their song.

"We can bandage what we need to now, that I am not disputing. I am disputing plunging headfirst into darkness while we are not at full strength. We may be at peace, but there are enemies that still work their machinations elsewhere. Maybe even close to this tranquil grove. Besides, we are already late for reporting back to the Duke."

"Tharin, could I take a look at that javelin?" When Tharin walks over Kynortas not only looks at the javelin itself, but compares the javelin in Tharin's hands to the javelin in the statue's hands.
Taking a look at the javelin and comparing it to the statue of Ysmir it is pretty obvious this is, in fact, the same weapon. Without any arcana knowledge or magical abilities yourselves it’s difficult to tell if the inscription mentioning “power of the sun” is a reference to a property or a myth.
At any rate the javelin is a much finer make than those you have seen recently and is well worth it’s weight. It’s difficult to say how old it is, because it’s still untouched by time, but a sharp point is a sharp point and it’s a good weapon!

While the others all crowded to investigate the facsimile of Ysmir's weapon, Aracynth moved back to the entrance of the graveyard, to stand as a sentry. He didn't expect trouble, but it wouldn't do for all of them to become distracted by a shiny relic.
His fatigue from the skeleton encounter earlier was becoming harder to ignore though. The shield had now expired, and he was glad that they would be returning to Cloverdown shortly for rest.

Tharin leaves the javelin with those who have interest in it. He pockets the root and stands by Aracynth.
"I understand your need to investigate. I went to capture Samael without full information, while we were unprepared, and we all paid the price for my folly. Leading others into dangers without knowing what happens leads to dead bodies. I have paid this price. Are you willing to pay it as well?"
Tharin draws his bow and stands at the edge of the clearing, watching for the dangers he didn't know about yet.

With the spear of sun's in (someone's) hand, Aracynth leads the party back through the Huntsman's Dream to Cloverdown, withdrawing to himself after Tharin's renarks. He kept his eyes peeled as they travelled, and hoped not only for an uneventful trip, but also to find the Duke, Lady, and Marquess where they had been left.

Kynortas thanked Tharin for the unique javelin and hefted it in his hand feeling the weight. He would use it when the next opportunity presented itself. Kynortas set about to bandaging his wounds.
Short Rest: 6
During his rest Kynortas queries Fizzbang's, "What did your magical senses teach you of this javelin, Fizzbang?"
Taking quick shifts to rest up briefly and recuperate after your encounter, you see nothing of note. Small birds and animals avoid you as newcomers to the forest, and the most eerie thing is the sound of wolves once the moon finally crests the forest canopy. The graveyard remains still and you're able to recover some.
Just before leaving Tharin notices a moonbeam glint off something by the mausoleum entrance. Just at the top of the steps, leaning against an old stone pillar, is a small, leather-bound and buckled book. The latch moves stiffly and the pages are well worn and smudged from age and use. Some pages appear to be torn and many of them are just remnants of pages. Tharin does not recognize the lettering, but it appears slightly flourished and many notes are scribbled along the side in a less-than-appealing hasty script.
Fizzbang/Kynortas:
In an old Dwarvish dialect on the front, the leather cover reads: Spells, by Mōd Gilm.
Making your way back through the Huntsman's Dream, carefully retracing your path which you knew was safe, you arrive back in Cloverdown just after midnight. The only lights are those still flickering from the longhall, and the town is peacefully quiet. The roots are still dripping slightly, and the sticky sap takes some work to scrub off your hands as you carry it. Entering the longhall the guards stand at attention as you enter, but relax when they recognize you. Harold is there, but the Duke and Marquess, as well as Lady Rhea, are not in sight.

Aracynth nodded to the Guard as he entered. "Good Morrow! Is the Duke still awake? Please get him if he is. We have returned with the roots that he requested we retrieve."
The large Dragonborn collapsed into a seat at the table, and extended his neck as he rested his chin and closed his eyes for a moment, waiting for the Guard to respond.
Harold eyes you all, "He is awake, and expecting you. This way, please." He gestures his hand to a door in the back left section of the longhall where you find Duke Armitage sitting with his son and Lady Rhea, speaking softly with the Marquess.
It's a small room, similar to the one you met them in previously, with a single bed and a desk. The Duke has brought extra chairs in to sit and chat.
"Ah, friends, you've returned," Duke Armitage intones upon your entry. "You found the root, I suppose?"

Fizzbang, you can tell that this javelin does radiant damage. It is the Photon Javelin and was Ysmir’s weapon of old.
You have some roots and do not see any threats nearby. You can head back to Cloverdown however and whenever you would like.
