Mavis doesn't like the implications from both Enzo and Robin. If there truly is remnants of an ancient dragon civilization buried underneath Phlan, then it's not a good sign of things to come, for both this excursion and the city of Phlan. She has to get to the bottom of this. Mavis walks towards Robin near the throne, pointing the torch in the general direction of the secret compartment. "Can you do anything about that?" Asks Mavis, implying she thinks he's the type of person that would know how to break into the secret compartment.
Mavis rolls her eyes once Robin's back is turned. She follows Robin into the next room, since she's not going to let another person be alone in a room of this decrepit dungeon after the last incident with Evara.
Evara addresses Token; “Yeah I’m ok. I think that secret door had some kind of spell or something on it, I could feel it but now just feel a bit more tired. Thanks for asking though friend! I didn’t feel anything like that going this way though.”
Evara gives a big yawn and stretches a bit. “I think we should go further down here guys.”
Evara excitedly gestures to the unexplored passageway but waits for the rest of the group to try to keep everyone together.
Hana inspects the skeletons from a safe distance. Enough to see details, not close enough to actually touch them. Then takes a look at the whole room.
"Guys, dont you think this is strange? I mean, we are missing a skeleton here. The throne should be occupied, shouldn't it? Where is their majesty?" Obviously, the implication she was doing was that somehow, their king or queen wasnt as dead as them.
Because Robin is proficient with thieves tools (but sold them to buy a sweet-ass hand crossbow), I'd allow you to make a Dexterity (Thieve's Tools) check at disadvantage to disarm the trap by using whatever tools he can put together from his other gear and that of the rest of the party, if you're interested.
Hana, in addition to the reddish-brown thread holding the skeletons together, the only additional detail you notice in your inspection is that the bones clearly aren't fresh, but also don't seem to have been specifically preserved. They are dry and dusty, but not lacquered or polished as if they weren't meant for an impressive public display.
The next chamber has been set up as a small laboratory. Tables around the room are covered with beakers, vials, tomes, cauldrons, and pots full of alchemical agents. Another curved passageway leads out of the far end of the room.
In the middle of the central table is a note next to a blue clay pot. The note, written in Common, says, “Raaxil, I have figured out how to complete the process. When you are ready, simply pour the contents of this blue pot into the cauldron and stir. The effects should be instantaneous, but DO NOT DRINK THE RESULTING POTION.”
To save time, anyone who wants to inspect the books or the alchemical equipment or liquids would have to make an Arcana check. If you want to do something else let me know.
"I dont really know, but its a possibility." Hana says as she moves to the throne.
There is one way to know if the throne was occupied recently. Looking at the dust left on it. Again, she keeps her distance as she inspects if the throne is dusty or has some parts where there is no dust.
There is no sign the throne has been sat on recently. The layer of dust on the seat is thinner than that on the floor, but it is smooth and even with no signs of indentations.
Robin sees that the humanoid-sized boot tracks that you first saw on the steps continue through the passages, in both directions. They are numerous around the tables in the new room to the point that they merge and blend, making it impossible to tell how many different tracks there may be in this room, indicating that one or more people did a considerable amount of movement from one table to the next.
Evara, Token, Mavis, and Robin are all unsuccessful at identifying what the purpose of the various alchemical agents or the contents of the blue pot or cauldron.
The books are written primarily in a language it appears none of you read, although Evara recognizes that they are using the Infernal script but none of the words make sense in Infernal.
Small sections and individual words are recognizable as Draconic to Robin and Enzo, but without the larger context it’s hard to make sense of them. Some examples in Draconic ate , in the middle of a paragraph, “Oh great [insert name here], may your power will grow and hoard increase forever!”
Token looks through the various alchemical tools with confusion. Growing up as a wilderness bumpkin did not prepare him for the world of science and he felt completely out of his element. The befuddled Harengon looked to the only thing in the room that seemed to make a speck of sense; the note.
After reading it thoroughly, Token puts the note away in his pocket and (if possible) tries to take the blue clay pot with him. "Considerin' how close these fellers are t' finishin' this potion an' that its effects are in fact instantaneous, might be best if we interrupt their science project an' confiscate it from 'em. Maybe Miss Mavis can put it down as erm... carryin' unknown substances n' tresspassin' on private property?" he says as he makes his way towards the next room.
It is possible to take the pot. It has no handle and is approximately six inches across, so it may be difficult to carry it in one hand without spilling.
You wouldn’t be able to take a Dash action while holding it without potential consequences.
Setting it down carefully without spilling or breaking the clay pot would use your free object interaction (PHB Chapter 9, page 190 in my version, under “The Order of Combat, “Other Activity on Your Turn”.) Carefully setting it down and drawing a weapon in the same turn would require using the Use an Object action.
"Maybe we should put that down until we've cleared the place out." Mavis suggests to Token, since she is unsure of what that substance is and what it's capable of. "Although, I would suggest hiding it someplace else, in case whoever is inhabiting this place comes back here when we're not in this room."
Token can easily find several dark corners in this room or the throne room that a torch in the middle of the room doesn’t illuminate. In this room there is a small pile of discarded texts on the floor below a table that could easily be rearranged to hide something the size of the pot as well.
After listening to Mavis' advice and realizing the potential disaster that could occur should the pot spill onto him or break while he's carrying it, Token nods and carefully sets the pot down. After a quick lookaround, he decides to place the pot under the table, rearranging the texts on the floor to cover up the pot as best as he can.
Watching Robin collect the books puts a smile on Token's face. "Can't make heads 'r tails of the texts in this room but lemme know if y'find somethin' interestin'. Maybe a good story worth readin' after all this's over." He says to Robin.
From his new position under the table Token’s eyes are shielded from direct torchlight and he can faintly make out a very faint purple glow from somewhere at the end of the next hallway. Whatever source the light is coming from is around a a corner and not directly visible.
Token stops and stares at the faint purple light with curiosity. He bobs his head over and under the table to observe what changes about the light. "There's some pretty light comin' from the next hallway. Think it's only seeable in the dark." Token says to the company.
Evara looks at Token and says “I agree with Token, I am attracted to anything shiney so I want to go investigate! Possibly we should send some people ahead who are more stealthy than I am to get a better idea of what is going on first?” Evara looks at her clunky armor and gives a little shimmy as her armor musically clamors with movement.
This map represents my understanding of each PCs last stated location. The throne is the blue circle, the suspended skeletons are triangles, the tables are rectangles and squares. Hana is checking out the throne, Token is under a table, the others were recently investigating the alchemical supplies and books in the same room.
