Nathan looks up, his party seems to disperse a bit getting ready for the night. The man holds his grimoire looking to Fazil.
"Yes, how may I assist you Fazil?"
Meanwhile..
Arthur smiles as Ophelia knits her clothes
"There she looks less skittish now! I knew Thuribula was super duper strong!!"
Ophelia giggles and nods to Thuribula
"I know Hannah can handle at least one night, it will help if I tell her you aren't an official Silver Order member quiet yet. Though again being an Elyrian paladin we aren't so different in the eyes of the Falling Fire."
Ophelia smiles and nods
"I understand, I took a similar vow, I only take what Theodore gives me in terms of items and components. I do charge for spells but it's for the army itself. It's nice to talk to another from Elyria makes me feel less an outcast here to be sure. I agree when it comes to that reminder as well."
Ophelia nods in agreement when it comes to parties and that of needing to work together.
"We are paladins and clerics.. But we are also men and women.. An army we understand what it is to rely on the blade beside you and you're comrades."
She offers a hand out
"I've seen you looking closely at the flame, come I'm sure you'll learn such skills when we are done my good lady."
Arthur,Dante,Ophelia follow her to the Altar as Ophelia begins to pray over the rite. Thuribula's symbol begins to glow as Ophelia ask.
"To whom? To what do you swear to? Why do you fight? What.. Drives you. Not what you are told.. But what you believe deep down Thuribula."
Nathan looks up, his party seems to disperse a bit getting ready for the night. The man holds his grimoire looking to Fazil.
"Yes, how may I assist you Fazil?"
Fazil stays quiet for a minute before speaking, "Would it be possible to have a private conversation? It should hopefully take a few minutes of your time."
Thuribula kneels there, her head bowed, as she ponders Ophelia's question. So much has already changed in her heart since she arrived. The stark reality of this place is nothing like Elyria, even the shreds of custom and culture that hang on in the wake of Drakkenheim's destruction are foreign to her. In Elyria, almost everyone respected the authority of the Church, and lived by the teachings of the Faith. Those who didn't were the rare outliers. Here, it is the opposite, and Thuribula had certainly struggled with the shock of the disregard that those she traveled with had for such things, and she had found herself lecturing them like she might an unruly youth in Lumen, reminding them of time honored principles... but they had no foundation to understand or accept. They were forged in a different world. Yet underneath that different were still human hearts that bled and suffered and yearned, and needed the Light to illuminate their darkness just as much. If the Holy City of Lumen were lit constantly, it was because everyone knew that it was only the Light that kept the things of darkness at bay.
"I swear to the Sacred Flame, who lights all our souls and beckons us to walk in righteousness so that we may be delivered from the despair of the Shadowlands and of the Abyss. I promise to walk in the Light all my days. I swear to be a beacon of the Light to all who walk in darkness, remembering that no matter how far from the Flame they are now, even a small light can be seen miles away in utter darkness. I swear to be the Hearth to the weary, the hungry, and the suffering. I swear to be the Lantern, to always speak truth and to never tell a lie, to find out the truth if I do not know it, and to transmit it to others who do not know it. I swear to be the Torch, to speak and act when I may stop evil, to uphold justice, and to use my sword and strength to defend the innocent and those in danger of harm. I swear to be the Candle, to offer mercy to the sinful, tempered with wisdom, and not to despair on the redemption of any soul while they still live. I swear to maintain my vow of poverty as a Flamekeeper, not to accept coin or keep any possessions that I do not need, to be a good steward of all material possessions entrusted to me, and to bestow all of my excess on the Church and on the poor. I swear to maintain chastity and purity and the right use of my body. I swear to obey the Divine Matriach and her counsels and commands, the teachings of the Faith, and all who are in just authority over me. I swear to honor Saint Tarna, and all the Saints, and ask them and the Flame for assistance when my own strength fails..."Thuribula trails off, unable to think of any more promises to make, but the words she has said feel right, framing the deep sense of purpose inside that is so easy to lose in times of stress, but when carefully built and maintained, can withstand any attacks.
Nathan looks to Fazil and gives a slight nod, gesturing Fazil to follow to behind the tavern.
"Is this upon matters of the arcane?"
Meanwhile..
Ophelia nods as the Divine Matriarch was mentioned.
"It was her who sent us, and we are her shield and sword... just like you. In truth that makes you one of us in all but title now. After a few more shows of faith.. you can join officially but that doesn't mean we can't work together my fellow torch. Ahh, speaking of Lanterns.. if you promote peace and not just violence I've a favor. The guardtower here has Hooded Lanterns.. I wanted to know their goals. I know this sounds like espionage but in truth.. They seem like good men and women and if our goals can work together or that we can compromise. We would love to show them that we are willing to help Westamar.. And Drakkenheim. If you can offer them aid, at any point I would consider it a favor to the Silver Order as well. Truth be told they don't know we feel this way.. Not yet but I was thinking the best way to approach them. You seem.. Well to be honest you are very beautiful and strong and charming, you have a way with words and I feel you cut to the matters of the heart far better than me."
Ophelia smiled brightly laying a hand on Thuribula's shoulder
"And as a cleric of the Sacred Flame I accept you with all of my flame and all that I am."
Thuribula's symbol glows, her oath made and her powers... Have grown now even further.
Thuribula bows her head and grasps the holy symbol as it glows... Truly the Light has blessed me... but it will be for harder tasks ahead. She lifts her head again after her moment of prayer, thoughtfully.
"One of my party has some association with the Hooded Lanterns... although I don't know how much. While we were in the ruins, they came to speak to him on some urgent matter. Perhaps someone he knows. I can ask him."
Her expression turns serious. "But I think retreiving Saint Brenna's relic must come before everything... I would like to rest here tonight, if it's all right with Flamekeeper Hanna, but before I do, if I may return to meet my companions, I can tell them of your offer and see what they wish to do."
"I normally wouldn't share so easily, but as a fellow mageborn.. You can find River at the Red Lion Hotel. She'll be in a corner table, she'll buy Delirium as well.
Meanwhile..
Ophelia nods
"Of course, however if the Hooded Lanterns need help saving lives I would understand that taking focus. You may certainly rest here tonight if you desire too and of course you may go and return later tonight lady Thuribula that is no problem at all!"
Thuribula bows before she takes her leave... thanking each of them again for their prayers and support. "I will return here later tonight, but if I miss you, how may I get a message to you?"
Then she heads back to the Bark and Buzzard to wait for her companions...
"I normally wouldn't share so easily, but as a fellow mageborn.. You can find River at the Red Lion Hotel. She'll be in a corner table, she'll buy Delirium as well.
"Thank you." Fazil nods as he salutes, displaying a brief harmless magical feat such as making a puff of wind through Prestidigitation. He gives Nathan respect and gratitude before heading over to Red Lion Hotel to find River.
As he heads to the Red Lion Hotel, it isn't long before he finds River. A tiefling with rowboat horns, looking at a table of dwarves for a moment, before she gestures another tiefling to come sit with her. Was that.. Maggwyn?
OOC Should I merge there solo things? As Maggwyn is a bit private with her actions so make a channel for them perhaps?
Thuribula is able to ask but also the guardtower is the tallest establishment and easy enough to find for the paladin.
Arriving she see's a..
A fortified stone watchtower and notices it is the tallest structure in Emberwood Village, and lies upon the road on the north edge of town. A two-storey wooden house abuts the base. Inside is a small kitchen, a mess hall, and about two dozen bunk beds. The tower has three main levels, Outside the tower the Hooded Lanterns keep a small training yard and a modest stable large enough for six horses. Nearby, a covered wooden bridge crosses the narrow Timberwash stream and leads out of Emberwood Village towards Drakkenheim
At the front of the establishment are several guards and many archers on the towers. Between the guards is a young man with a rapier and a long black studded jacket. Ruffled black hair, he looked fairly young but had intelligent eyes.
The man appeared to have a firearm on his side, the clothing and firearm looked well made.. More.. Modern and possibly dwarven made.
OOC Here he is ^^ (Do ignore the coffee but this is the best art I could find for a reference for the sorta look I was going for lmao)
I should add coffee does exist in this world it just wouldn't look like starbucks lmao
The evening is drawing later, and perhaps it isn't the most apt time for an introduction, but nevertheless Thuribula walks up to the guards, with a curious glance at the young man with Dwarven weaponry and clothing. She sees no badge of rank, though, and so, unsure who to address, she speaks to the group as a whole.
"Good evening, my friends. I apologize if I intrude on a late hour, but I was told of your company by my acquaintances at Saint Ardenna's. My name is Thuribula, I am a Flamekeeper from Lumen. I have just recently arrived to Emberwood Village on a long journey from Elyria, and wanted to introduce myself."
The guards salute and the young man looks to Thuribula he averts his gaze from her a moment.. Though it feels like forever (insight here if desired.) He clears his throat and finally looks toward her.
Sakomoto Sato, you're from Elyria than? You've met the Silver Order than? I'm working as detective here for the Hooded Lanterns and they've taken an interest in the order.
He takes a moment looking her over before looking away once more.
I heard tale of you're hunt from a few rowdy adventurers at the Buzzard today. You just might have come at a perfect time.. Captain Ansom Lang has a job.. Not only would we pay you but we'd consider it a favor from the Silver Order as well if you came to help establish such an alliance.
Thuribula nods and inclines her head respectfully; unable to tell any rank or position on the dwarven-dressed man. "I am honored to make your acquaintance, Master Sato. You're a contractor for the Hooded Lanterns, then. I would not yet call myself a representative of the Silver Order, though I share their obedience to the Divine Matriarch, I have not met their commander nor have any official position with them. From what they told me, I think the Silver Order is interested in finding an accord with the Lanterns as well, if they've any common ground. Having seen something now of the dangers of the city, as you've heard, I understand both of your desires to find allies in achieving your goals. What job does Captain Lang need done?"
As Thuribula reads Sakomoto it's almost on the tip of her tongue why he might avert his gaze. Criminal? No.. nothing like that.. What.. Was it than..
Thuribula does however see a badge on his belt, revealing he is in fact a detective an idea in Westamar and with the Lanterns. He motions her to follow him up the guard tower as the guards stand aside.
"I see.. We wouldn't mind seeing if we were compatible as allies either but.."
He leans over to whisper
"Captain Lang's sister... Petra.. She's... Missing at the Rat's nest Tavern. A survey mission went array.. Ansom is still healing from contamination being purged (Exhaustion.) He'd go himsel otherwise..We don't want to cause a panic.
Sakomoto comes to an office door and knocks. "Come in!" a gruff voice says from the otherside.
Thuribula can't quite put a finger on what is strange about this young man. She listens cautiously as she follows Sakomoto up the guard tower. The Captain's sister, missing in the ruins? That hardly seems like something to entrust to strangers. I wonder what he really wants. Or how desperate they are. But she waits, following him to the door, and waiting to follow him inside as they are invited...
