The wood elf will slowly tear up strips of cloth and bind his wounds as he tries to keep and eye open and ear perked for any new visitors while the others attend to the unconscious attackers.
Heidi smiles at the cleric of peace. “Just Heidi is fine. Or Whiplass Heidi, should you prefer to use a title. I accept these blessings. There is a tranquility to be found, in agony, if you submit to it.”
When the assassin revives, the smile remains, but the paladin’s voice takes on a cold edge: “But there will be no tranquility for you. I will take you to the brink of death, and beyond, as many times as it takes. You will give me the answers I seek.”
”I am not even going to ask you questions. I am just going to hurt you, until you start telling me things I might want to hear. And if I grow bored with you, your compatriot yet lives.”
Heidi gestures to where the other assassin lies, bound with rope. “Perhaps your agonizing death might serve, to loosen his tongue?” (Intimidation 30 (nat 20))!

Teresa bites her lips to suppress the impulse to intervene in the Halfling's actions. The sight of torture inflicts upon her a pain nearly as severe as the torture itself. However, Teresa recognizes the importance and inescapable nature of Heidi's actions. Instead of turning away, the girl focuses on the assassin's responses, vigilant not to overlook any potential signs of deceit they might reveal.
Heidi produces a small sharp knife, and the prisoner begins to squirm, emitting a series of unintelligible, strangled noises.
Having nearly asphyxiated with the whip about her throat, it would be a bit, before the woman was actually capable of speaking. While Teresa seems relieved by the assassin’s apparent willingness to cooperate, Heidi almost appears perturbed.
”No, no. There will be plenty of time for that, when we can properly understand you.”
The halfling next produces an apple, and a hunk of cheese, which she begins cutting with the paring implement.
Vadania listened with half an ear as the halfling started questioning the one assassin, but it was getting harder to stay in focus. Blood loss was slowing after he tied tight bindings on his thigh and packed his shoulder. He worried his shoulder would seize up; making his ability to fire arrows or use his sword next to impossible. Taking long, slow breaths, the wood elf continued working on his injuries.
Teresa hesitates. She really wants to heal the Elf ranger, but it will cost her Sleep, the strongest combat spell she has. Then an idea lights up in her head. "Let's check the Assassin's equipment! Maybe they have some healing potions!"
Fjörn pales at the hafling’s threats believing her every word, Fjörn himself is often a bully but physically he prefers autonomy. One thing seems clear Heidi will get her answers one way or another. At Teresa’s mention of looting the assassins Fjörn will quickly head over and start divesting them of their former belongings.
When she has finished her apple, Heidi approaches the wood elf. “You have suffered well, embraced the discomforts of your sundered flesh. My Mistress Loviatar smiles upon such.”
The halfling cocks her head to the side, appraisingly, as she looks up at the ranger. “I have some small healing at my disposal, if you would submit to it? I would warn you, if you have experienced other healing… this is less gentle. When I lay my hands upon you, you will feel your wounds closing, in excruciating fashion, an ecstasy of pain.”
It is an offer seldom made, and seldomer accepted; but she likes to be clear, about the nature of her succor.
Heidi steps closer. She lays her hands, directly upon the obvious puncture wounds, causing Vadania to flinch involuntarily. After the initial shock of her touch, the elf takes it well; experiencing all the pain, of what would have been a lengthy healing process, in just a few moments.
When the Paladin takes her hands away, there are only scars, throbbing with a dull ache. “You are healed. The scars will fade, the throbbing cease, in time.”

Fjörn will then at some point start changing and applying his bits of disguise to look like an old veteran soldier, disguise kit 9 with a touch of performance to get into character 10.
Fjörn then begins telling a story about a magical pool of radiance and a misunderstanding which led to a fight and that’s how I ended up with a limp…

The wood elf did not know what to expect from the Paladin of Pain. While he had seldom needed major healing, the one or two times he did, he recalled peace and warmth and an all encompassing serenity.
Not so this time. He flinched and groaned as Heidi 'lay on hands' on the first wound. What followed was worse than the initial injury. Heat like molten fire. His nerves screaming of cold and fire at the same time. Muscles twitiching and jerking as the very muscle bundles of fibers reached out to grow and rebind with itself. Sweat broke out on his forehead and he moaned as Heidi moved her hands to the second wound. Though Vadania now knew what was about to happen, it did not lessen the pain nor his body's reactions.
By the time it was over, he felt wrung out and left to dry in the sun. His clothing drenched in sweat, congealed blood, and dirt. It was as the halfling stated, while the wounds were closed and the flesh recombined - the throbbing was an ache he would experience for many hours to come.
"Thank you, Lady Hicks. For your healing and your skill in battle. This is an experience I shall never forget." So saying, he passed out.
Heidi: The assassin’s eyes widen with fear, She backs up a bit using her hands and legs, trying to put distance between herself and you. On the brink of death and unwilling to put up with anymore pain the assassin starts speaking.
”I-I don’t know who is behind t-this attack but I know t-that they’re someone in a v-very high position. M-My group was just contacted through a middle m-man. Our target was the son of Lord Chancellor of Melvaunt, w-we were given his picture and a g-general description of how he is. W-We were given 1000 GP each so t-there was no way we would refuse such an offer. After all, the target is the Lord Chancellor’s son not the Lord Chancellor himself. We were on constant watch, we just followed him until it seemed as if we could take him out, outside of public eye. That’s all the information I know. I’m not the leader of the group, you killed him”, as she continued talking the more loose her mouth became, tell you everything she knew.
Teresa: Everything you heard from her was true, except the money part.
Fjörn: From Assassin 1: 10,300 GP, rope, crossbow and arrows(15), water skin, some random snacks(3) and an extra pair of clothes.
From Assassin 3: 11,000 GP, daggers(5), sling, water skin, snacks(1), and dice set.
History: you’re aware that it’s is famous for its smiths and mercenaries. They are ruled by the Council of Lords in which the Lord Chancellor is the speaker of the council as well as the treasurer, there have been rumours of him being an incompetent man. There is major crime in the city as well as that there seems to be deep and widespread corruption. You also know that mercenaries have a high strong hold in the city.
Heidi does not permit her quarry to back away; but rather keeps apace, as the assassin attempts to scramble away, in vain. The Paladin lashes out with her open hand, slapping the assassin hard, across the face. While her chain does not include full gauntlets, the mail sleeve extends down the back of her hand, lending a certain weight to the open-handed blow.
When the prisoner revives again, this time Heidi is right there, in her face.
”Do not lie to me again. You were each paid ten thousand gold. You are certain to be either executed as an assassin, or murdered by your extremely displeased client. I may have a third option for you, if you wish to live. But only if you tell the truth.”
She gives the woman a moment, to let this sink in.
”Who was this middle man? Where were you hired? Who is your contact? Where are the other assassins waiting?”
She knows the assassin may not have answers to all her questions… but is doesn’t hurt to ask.
It wasn't the warmth of the sun shining down as it skirted in and out from behind the clouds. Nor the whispering of the wind in the nearby wood. It was the hysterical rantings of an unknown voice that brought Vadania back to awareness.
A groan escaped his clamped jaw as he rolled onto his side. Taking stock of his condition, he was both relieved and annoyed. His two dagger wounds still felt red hot, however, he had to admit to himself that, overall, he felt 'on the mend'. Enough so that he could slowly work his way back to his feet and recover his weapons.
Upright, but wobbley, the wood elf leaned against the carriage and listened to the interaction between the assassin and the halfling paladin.
Cyrano checks on Vadania and is glad to see the ranger on his feet. He has no issue with the interegation but nor did he have a desire to help.
I'm going to do a perimeter sweep and gather some supplies for a couple ideas I have. Two whistles means trouble. But I'll stay close by." Cyrano says to Vadania before scurrying off to the trees. He stops at several trees harvesting sap, bark, needles, nuts, anything he thinks will be of use to him. Once full on supplies he hurries back to the carriage. He ducks under the carriage and stays there for the remainder of the short rest fiddling with the various items he had picked up or scavenged within reach.
Fjörn (disabled soldier) paces with a limp. He makes his way over to Teresa, “I believe this money can be put to good use, perhaps you would be so kind as to divide our shares?” He sets the very large sum of coins up in the carriage beside the cleric.
He then marches straight over to Heidi and the remaining assassin, (in halfling language) “Is there anything more we can gain from this despicable stain on humanity?” Slowly drawing his rapier as he asks…

Vadania hears the offer of healing from Heidi. The wood elf looks deep into the halfling's eyes; almost a challenge in itself.
"Do what you will, Paladin. If it means I can properly protect Little One and you all, the pain is a small price to pay."
Not knowing what to expect he lays full length on the ground and takes several slow, deep breaths to relax his mind and body for what was to come.
