In the world of Toril, behind the windswept Sea of Swords to the west and the mysterious lands of Kara-Tur to the east, lies the continent of Faerûn. A vast place of varied cultures and races, Faerûn is rich with history and wondrous tales of adventure and magic... for those willing to seek it out!
This is your world. The place you call home, and perhaps one day, the deeds of your own life will be heralded in song and story by the great bards of Faerûn.
However, your story is yet to be told... you must write it first...

I'm looking for one player to fill a vacant spot in our campaign that's set in the Forgotten Realms and is being run here on the DnD Beyond Forums. Given our current party structure, I'm looking for someone with magic capabilities, (we're losing our sorcerer), so, ideally another sorcerer or a wizard, but I'm open to ideas. We're a dedicated and fun group, and two of our players have been with us since the beginning, which was four years ago. The other two are also long-timers.
If you're interested, pease post your character below, using the following guidelines.
How to Apply
Post here with your name, race, class, background along with a description & backstory; the more detailed, the better.
You would start at Level 5.
Content/sources allowed: Pretty much any of the official 5E DnD material.
Alignments: Good and neutral preferred. I won't rule out evil, but I'll need to be convinced with a good backstory
Our game is currently set in northern Faerun, currently inside The High Forest and headed towards Silverymoon, so if you're at all knowledgeable with the FR regions, you can include a reason/story why you might have traveled to this part of the world and what you seek. If not, no worries, just include why you might have left home and made the journey to this part of the world. If you're chosen, I'll work with you on specifics about how we can bring you into the game.
Posting Style & Frequency
We all try to post at least once per day, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on schedules. Weekends vary. I'm looking for the same from you, and I'll encourage a wide mix of creative roleplaying and descriptive narrative, with dialog, inner thoughts and expressive, detailed accounts of what your character does and thinks, whether in battle or interacting with other characters and NPCs. As I said, this is a really fun group, so someone who's very much into good character RP will be ideal. Overall, we've got a good mix of exploration, RP and combat.
If you're already participating in a bunch of other games and would likely only have time for the occasional one or two sentence post, then maybe step aside and let someone else have a chance. However, if you have a great imagination and love to write, no matter if you're a total newbie or an experienced player, then I'd love to have you in our game!
This looks cool! Its been a bit since I played in a nice old-fashioned (for me, I started with 5e, so Faerun was the primary world, not greyhawk) I'll use this post as a placeholder while I finish a character. just a few questions though:
Should we roll for stats in this thread? should we use point buy? standard array? if rolling, should we reroll ones?
What was the primary role of the sorcerer? was it blaster, controller, utility, or something else?

Hi, I'm Raccoon_Master, a young genderfluid actor, writer, explorer, and bass vocalist. Pronouns They/Them/Theirs
My Characters:Brorminthe Devout Crusher; Ellorathe Romantic Rookie
SpiderTrapper - You don’t have to roll in this thread, just give me a detailed idea of who want your character to be. And the old sorcerer was pretty basic, a little bit of each. Right now the party has a bard, paladin, cleric and fighter, if that helps.
-Backstory: Callor was raised from a young age by an ancient order of spellcasters dedicated to protecting the world from demonic incursion. bright and clever from a young age, Callor was tutored in the wizardly arts, for that is what spell-casting is. An art! Callor gained his experience by studying arcane secrets and battling against vicious fiends with the help of older, more experienced order members. One day, the Order Elder came to him, and gave him a special mission. you see, the elder had always liked Callor admiring his intellect & skill, and had sought to totur the young wizard. but, to prove himself, Callor has to go out into the world and keep an eye out for demonic incursion for 10 years, battling evil wherever he can. if he survives, and oh, the elder just know he will, theres no way Callor cannot succeed in the elders eyes, then Callor will be allowed to apprentice and help the elder.
-Description: A young man, no, not a man. not yet anyway. a young boy in his late teens/early twenties, his mousy brown hair and wide eyes hide incredible power. Callor is tall and thin, as well as uncoordinated, often tripping over himself. he speaks with a slight stutter that comes out when he speaks to girls, though he is oddly fearless in the face of horrible monsters.

This sounds interesting, and wizard is my favorite class.
My first thought is a Lawful Neutral wizard who belongs to the Arcane Brotherhood of Luskan.
Valdis "Book" Winterflame, Order of Scribes wizard, City Watch background.
Valdis Winterflame, known by most as "Book" was not your typical wizard in most ways, especially not when compared to his brothers of the Arcane Brotherhood. Probably because he didn't come to magic until he was fully an adult previously working as a city watchman. Having grown up in Luskan he is somewhat jaded and utterly pragmatic, but keeps a small spark of kindness kindled in his heart. Under everything Book is interested in magic for magic's sake, enjoying the feel and pleasure of it rather than searching for power like so many of his peers, though he would be unlikely to admit such to anyone. His membership at the brotherhood is one of convenience rather than because he has any loyalty to their values.
(Depending on where your adventure is and where it's going, I'm happy to add how he got from the Brotherhood to wherever you're at now)
This looks cool! I’m thinking of possibly playing something like either a reborn artificer (or wizard, if you already have one or if artificer wouldn’t properly fill the missing sorcerer’s role) or possibly a warlock of some kind, likely either fathomless or celestial. I’ll post again once I have a general concept.
I would love to join a long-term game with other enthusiastic players.
Name: Wolten Longstep
Race: Eladrin
Class: Wizard (Conjuration)
Background: Courtier
Backstory: Wolten serves the Court of Limn, a neutral political alignment amongst the Border Kingdoms of South Fauren. The Court of Limn seeks to establish and strengthen agreements and ties between lands near and far (as well as set up a cost-effective monopoly on long-distance magical travel). Wolton is a gifted arcane practitioner obsessed with the here, there, everywhere, and especially the places between. Whether it was getting from point A to B in a jiffy, or calling on a fey friend to lend a hand, or you simply lost your quill, Wolten’s knack for conjuration was well received amongst the Court of Limn. Now, Wolten has been assigned the task of extending the Court's diplomatic ties to North Faerun.
Background: Emrys left home early, at the age of 13, in search of adventure, and he found it, when he was kidnapped on the road and eventually sold as a slave. He spent 2 years as a rowing slave , until the ship foundered on the coast of Ithmong (Lapaliiya) in heavy storms. The Lapaliiya happily hung the Northmen as pirates and freed the slaves. Due to his strength and young age, Emrys found employment as a portar in a merchant caravan headed for Talathgard (Halruaa), where he received some training in fighting from the caravan's guards. As the caravan made its way back north through the Borderlands and Calimshan, he progressed fully into the role of guard. When fate brought him to the Tethyr city of Ithmong, Emrys felt that fate had destined him for a change and left the caravan to join the Tethyr Army at the age of 17. Emrys spent the next 10 years in the army, rising to the rank of Sergeant, and being assigned to various posts. On the day he was to re-enlist, Emrys saw a white hawk flying east, and took this as another sign that it was time to move on. Since then, he has been traveling toward home, with a worry deep in his heart.
This looks good. I had a bit of a break from the forums but I am back now.
Name: Artan
Race: Firbolg
Class: Druid (Circle of Stars)
Background: Hermit
Description & backstory: Artan is short for a Firbolg, but even still, stands at 6ft 9. He carries around a small crystal with him, that when held to the light, star patterns are projected from it (Circle of stars, Star map feature). When he first created it, the stars were what he could see, above his home in Chondalwood, where he trained under a circle of druids living there away from civilisation. One day, he was looking and saw the stars had changed. He decided that this had put him on a mission from the stars, and so he became determined to find what was going on. It wasn't clear if this was just stars from a different location that he needed to find, or a different time, but whatever it was, he needed to find out. He had heard of the vast knowledge in Silverymoon and so set out on a journey there, hoping that there would be star charts he could look over for more answers, and probably, based on his life experience so far, more questions.
Tullah is exceptionally naive and too trusting. She was taken from her birth family to serve in the family of one of the elites. She resembled their daughter so when the daughter was unwell and needed to make a public appearance Tullah would step in. Sadly the daughter died and it became too painful for Tullah to remain in the family home after her death, however, she was not dismissed unkindly and was given enough money to seek out her birth family.
Sadly due to Tullah's trusting nature the aide who was to accompany her on her journey/quest made off with her money. All she is left with is one earring which belonged to her friend Anya.
To survive she becomes a storyteller, both popular with adults and children. Nobles and poor.
Alignement: Chaotic Good Background:Guild Artisan / Guild Merchant
Misira is a dragonborn who spend the first part of her life as the apprentice of an old gnome master alchemist of the town of Yartar. Quite clever, she was having a happy life. People liked her and she pursued the goal of taking over the shop of her master when the time comes.
That was until that evening. She was working late, brewing some potions needed for the next day when a group of six thugs, all wearing a strange marks showed up asking for money and specific potions. To make it clear that they were not joking, they pushed the old master who slammed his head on the counter and fall dead. Everything went fast, Misira's blood boiled, letting the fury of her draconic ancestry overcome her reason. The dragonborn fought to death, destroying the lab and dismembering half of the thugs, the rest of them fled in front of such violence. Exhausted and losing blood, she fell on the floor, with the alchemist shop burning around her. The fumes of hundred of burning potions filled her lungs. She closed her eyes, ready to rejoin her master.
But Fate had other plans….
She woke up.in an hospice an it took weeks before she could walk again. But then something strange happen. Misira notice some magical sparks coming of her hands. The chemicals must have done something to her, altered her. Since then, she trained hard to master this arcane energy that sometime is triggered without notice and she decided: she will haunt these thugs and make them pay...The last piece of information she got was that they might have flee to Silvermoon...
Disclaimer: I understand you're looking for a caster to balance out the bard, cleric, paladin, fighter combo you got going on right now. While a ranger most certainly isn't considered a caster, I would like to make a case for her all the same. (I mean, come on: "Pass Without A Trace"? Saving group stealth checks all DAY!)
Name: Figwyn Alderbark
Race: Wood Elf
Class: Ranger, Fey Wanderer
Background: Feylost
Description: (Personality) Figwyn is a simple wanderer with little ambition beyond being just that. She is accustomed to the hardships of extended travel and knows ways of making that as comfortable as possible. She is neither a ray of sunshine nor a gloomer, but has a genuine fondness for the simple joys and an understanding for the simple disappointments. My hope is for her to meet the party and slowly begin to feel at home with these other misfits, looking out for them like a sister. Or a cool aunt.
Alignment: Neutral Good
Backstory: There are few who are as out of time as Figwyn.
She was lured into the Feywild by a malevolent pixie having a laugh at her expense. Figwyn does not know how long she was there and does not care to remember that unsettling place.
When she finally found a way to escape, the world was different and she was changed. Her home was overgrown, her people gone, and the feywild seemed to cling to her in the form of an otherworldly air.
She was taken in and treated kindly by the elves of Rheitheillaethor, but she will never entirely belong with them. So, she makes herself useful, making the trek between the elven settlements and Silverymoon, peddling pelts, rare herbs, and her skills as a guide through the High Forest.
It may be on one such trek that she encounters a party of adventurers in need of a guide. She may help them through the forest and - if it feels right - into the wider world beyond.
Description: Aeliaz is a tall Aarokokra which white feathers and yellow eyes. He wears an outfit similar to Robin Hood.
Backstory: Aeliaz was born into a royal family but left that life behind in order to become a soldier. During his service to his kingdom, he lost many of his best friends in a war against the giants. He is permanently scarred by these memories so he became a wandering ranger in order to escape his past as well as put his skills to a good use. Aeliaz is loyal to whoever is loyal to him and he will follow his own moral code no matter the cost.
Description & backstory: "Do you have any more pies mister?" the young boy looks at the portly vendor, 2 cp in his outstretched tiny hand. "Sorry Lad, all out for today." As the disappointed young boy turns and leaves the spot, Artimus starts packing up his things. "There is never enough time for things and never enough flour for pies." he commented to himself. Artimus was, or is rather, a man who was trained by one of the finest chefs in Waterdeep. When Arty worked for Chef Anton, he served commoners and nobles alike, baking and cooking for the best of them. It all fell apart when Chef Anton got caught making "cake" with one of the young serving maids. It happens a lot in this business but, the young girl's Warden husband didn't take it well and Chef Anton hung for it. The rest of the cooking staff scattered and Arty found himself out of a job, money, and on the run from a local man who said Arty owed him a bit of money. "Well, it was just a small bet," he reassured himself as he packed away the final pot. Arty moved to the front of the cart and scratched Mabel's long ears as the donkey nuzzled his jacket pocket looking for a sugar cube. "One day Mabel," he tells the donkey. "One day we will stop all this roaming, settle down in a nice roadside inn, and grow old cooking for those who stop by. Until then, it's the road for us love." Arty climbs into the small seat of the cart, takes the reins and tugs on them slightly. "Let's go my girl" he says as he does so. As the cart pulls away from the spot he had set up for the day, a dark cloud seems to form behind the traveling chef. Trouble is coming his way but he can't see it due to the flour stuck in his eyebrow.
Name: Wyrmauguven "Oathbreaker" (Wyr to those who find his hard to pronounce)
Race: Goliath
Class: Warlock
Background: Haunted One
Alignment: Lawful-Neutral
Description: He stands tall and is well-muscled by even Goliath standards -- a testament to years of honest manual labor. His hands are rife with burns that when inquired of, only beget avoidance. He nears a strange stoicism, almost unheard of amongst his kind, but beneath this calm demeanor, his stare hints a smidgen of anger. His eyes are undoubtedly his most peculiar feature: two black voids, aloft which twin pools of otherworldly green energy emanate from it's center. Upon his forehead, a black mark is emblazoned. It's symbolism is unknown, resembling a bloodlet fissure from which countless back pincers emerge.
Backstory: I was once a woodcutter for my tribe in the northern wastes of Vaasa. My life was simple, but it contributed to a greater goal. My people were tasked by ancient oath to guard an ancient evil, a soul collector of malicious repute. Dubbed "The Old Scab" by our ancients, we are sworn as children to carry this oath as our greatest treasure: to ensure the seal remains unbroken and this evil forever sealed.
I loved my woman. She was with child when...
A little over a season ago, a robed man came to our tribe. His cloak bore the emblem of a snarling dragon clutching a headsman's axe. He smiled and swaggered as he spoke, demanding our land and our fealty. He spat on our traditions and insulted our ancestors. He promised everything but ultimately offered nothing. So we resolved to reject him when next he returned.
I was away in the tundra when this ultimately happened. I expected my woman's warm embrace and the cries of our child on my return. Instead, I found dragonfire and burned corpses. My people were gone. My wrath was inconsolable, my actions irredeemable. I marched with boiling blood and furious abandon to the Scab's prison. In peeling away the first seal, I heard her voice, like wine and poison. She mocked my weakness, laughing at the deaths of those I loved. I almost left to seek my end in the frozen wastes, when she mentioned a name: The Executioner, Scharfrichter, the infernal dragon.
In that moment, to my shame, she had won my attention. Her deal was simple: free her and accept her terms, and she would afford unto me the means to find and slaughter the wretch, along with all its worshippers. In my rage, how could I refuse? I broke the final bonds and my oath. The demoness arose as red fumes and embraced me in a kiss.
I am even more ashamed that I felt good in that moment. Now, with the means for my revenge secure, I seek the monster that will grant me a satisfactory kill as I watch the life ebb from its eyes. I just hope I've not unleashed something worse.
Thanks to everyone who applied. Some amazing character ideas, and it's always hard to choose, but the spot has now been filled. If anything changes, I'll come back here first and keep all of these applications in mind.

Thank you for reading and have a nice day.
As the disappointed young boy turns and leaves the spot, Artimus starts packing up his things.
Until then, it's the road for us love."
Arty climbs into the small seat of the cart, takes the reins and tugs on them slightly. "Let's go my girl" he says as he does so.
As the cart pulls away from the spot he had set up for the day, a dark cloud seems to form behind the traveling chef. Trouble is coming his way but he can't see it due to the flour stuck in his eyebrow.
Oh wow, so many good characters. Are you still looking for a new member?
