"I can go with our new friends to meet the priest," she says. "I don't know how much better my reception will be, but I am usually able to smooth things over when there are problems."
Veronica wonders, not for the first time, how long she has before someone realizes that she is a vampire.

Look at it! Beauty! A spoiler!
Look what you've done, spoiling it for you and everyone who can see this screen. You're a disgrace, you know that, right? You have nothing to be ashamed of but yourself, you moster!
But to be completely fair, every monster has a cute side, like have you seen people draw goblins? Goblins look so cool! You're fine, you may seem like a monster, but I bet you're cute on the inside!
Veronica headed towards the chapel with Ireena and Ismark. The chapel was a shambles, with overturned and broken pews littering the dusty floor. Dozens of candles mounted in candlesticks and candelabras lit every dusty corner in a fervent attempt to rid the chapel of shadows. At the far end of the church sat a claw-scarred altar, behind which knelt a priest in soiled vestments muttering prayers to the Morninglord. Next to him hung a long, thick rope that stretched up into the bell tower.
“Father Donavich?” said Ireena to the priest, “it is us, Kolyan’s children.”
The priest paused his prayers and replied in a hoarse voice, “What brings you to our house of light children?”
“Our father, Kolyan Indirovich the burgomaster, is dead. The devil Strahd’s minions hounded our dwelling every night till his heart gave out, they were after Ireena,” said Ismark.
“I see,” said Donavich. The bags under his eyes and sag in his shoulders betrayed his many sleepless nights. The furrows permanently etched into his forehead beneath his white-haired balding crown showed his constant state of worry. “Let us bring him to the church’s graveyard and I shall…”
“DO YOU NOT LOVE ME FATHER?” The same animal screech echoed from beneath the wooden floor of the church. “Feed me!”
“...and I shall commend his soul to the Morninglord.” Donavich made a point of ignoring the screaming.
“We were thinking of leaving tomorrow morning and hiding from Strahd in the church for tonight,” said Ismark, now slightly unsure about the party’s original plan given the presence beneath the church. He pointed at Veronica. “She’s one of the adventurers who’s agreed to help take Ireena to Vallaki.”
“Of course. This house of light is open to all in need. We shall bury your father at dawn in the presence of the Morninglord’s light. However, I would suggest you keep travelling through Vallaki and on toward Krezk. It is the town furthest from Strahd's gaze and the Abbey of Saint Markovia in Krezk provides sanctuary to those in need.” Donavich turned to Veronica, interest lanced his solemn expression as he said, “Welcome brave child, thank you for agreeing to guard Ireena on her journey. Though our heavenly father bade us to do so, acts of charity are rare in Barovia. Your actions shame the cowardice of the locals.”

Door 4
Vicky saw an empty, disused space beyond through the keyhole. As she opened the door, the wood felt light and half-eaten by rot. Time and neglect had punched holes in the ceiling of the moldy room, which contained a few broken roof shingles amid puddles of water. In one corner, set into the floor, was a heavy wooden trapdoor held shut with a chain and a padlock. The very same inhuman voice, now identifiable as a young man's screams of anguish, can be heard through the trapdoor.
Veronica decides against trying to deceive the priest... the past thing she needs is to look untrustworthy as well as looking vampiric.
"Thank you, Father," she says with a courtsey. "I just arrived here, but I couldn't just stand back and do nothing knowing that an innocent was under attack by such a monster... not when my own mother was a victim of a similar attack."

But to be completely fair, every monster has a cute side, like have you seen people draw goblins? Goblins look so cool! You're fine, you may seem like a monster, but I bet you're cute on the inside!
Father Donavich stood stunned at Veronica’s revelation. He raised his face to the heavens and began weeping uncontrollably. Tears of joy rolled down his cheeks as his permanent frown slowly melted away into a beatific smile and his voice cracked as he said, “Thank you Lord for answering my prayers.” He looked at Veronica. “You, my child, are a godsend. A victim of a vampire’s depredations, but able to steer the hunger that must be consuming you. I must humbly beg your assistance.”
The priest led everyone to the room with the trapdoor that Vicky had found and said, “It seems the jester of your group has found the source of my woes. Well done child, to smile and carry the Morninglord's light into darkness is a precious gift."
Beneath that trapdoor is my son, Doru. A year ago, an adventurer mage with a silver tongue came to Barovia, his passionate words boiled the blood and riled the resentment of Barovians against Strahd.
Many had tried and failed to depose the dictator before this mage, but displays of his magical prowess impressed the young and naive. My Doru was one such soul, swayed by the mage’s honeyed words, he and many others would follow the mage to the Nine Hells and back to topple the tyrant.
And lead them to the Hells was exactly what the mage did.” Father Donavich shook his head despondently. “Not one of the fifty-eight souls from the village who followed the mage to Castle Ravenloft returned alive. The devil Strahd sent my boy Doru back to me, but turned into one of his vampire spawn.
Now my son never rests and cries out at all hours for blood. I’ve trapped him in the church’s undercroft”, the priest pointed at the trapdoor, “and prayed day and night to our heavenly father for his deliverance.”
“The villagers may have abandoned this house of light, but you are the answer to my prayers." Father Donavich foisted an impassioned plea upon Veronica. “Please help me. Teach Doru how to control his hunger like you did yours.”
{DM note: Just some out of character knowledge so that we do not get confused later. Veronica and Doru are not the same.
Veronica is a dhampir. Born of vampiric influence in her ancestry, she possesses only a small number of a full vampire’s advantages, but almost none of their disadvantages (there are still some).
The priest’s son Doru had been turned into a vampire spawn. The vampire who created the spawn would have needed to take additional steps to create a spawn compared to a dhampir. The spawn possesses more advantages of a full vampire, but also inherits many more disadvantages.
Storywise, it is unclear if Donavich and Veronica knows the difference.}
(Veronica probably won't know the difference until she actually interacts with Doru)
Veronica... is a bit surprised by the request, but she nods.
"I won't promise any miracles," she tells the priest gently. "But... I can try to talk to him. With time and patience we might be able to reach him... I learned many techniques to calm myself and control that hunger... but it took many years to reach the point where I am now."

"That is more than enough...Thank you," said the priest.
Father Donavich produced an iron key from within his robes and used it on the great padlock that held the chain against the trapdoor. He pulled on the chain and it slid aside like a great metal snake.
At the sound of the rattling chain, Doru’s cries ceased immediately, only to be replaced by an ominous silence.
Donavich grabbed the metal pull-ring on the trapdoor and heaved.
The trapdoor, swollen and stuck to its frame, came apart with a mighty splintering of wood, revealing a gaping black hole in the floor. Through it, you glimpse the undercroft’s rough-hewn walls and a floor made of damp clay and earth. Rotting wooden pillars strained under the weight of the church’s floor.
There was no sign of Doru, the way down into the darkness was quiet as a grave.
“He must be hiding,” said Father Donavich, “go on, I shall come with you.”
He picked up one of the lit candelabras from the chapel and motioned for the party to follow him down. Ismark and Ireena took three steps back, uncertainty written on their faces. It was obvious they thought this was a bad idea and they intended to stay out of the undercroft.
"Everyone, please be ready to help restrain Doru if he gets violent. I hope that won't be necessary... but we should be ready, just in case."
She follows the priest, peering into the various crevices of the room... she may be a dhampir herself, but she isn't stupid enough to think that she isn't on the menu if this vampire spawn is particularly hungry.
(Edited because I posted before I saw the DM's response)
The candelabra in Donavich’s hand was insufficient to fully pierce the darkness. A yellow halo of light extended from his light source, revealing the confines of the undercroft with its 15-foot high ceiling, but was swallowed by blackness in its furthest reaches. “Doru my son, where are you?” He called out.
However, simple darkness did nothing to hinder Veronica and Garavon, whose darkvision spied every nook and cranny in shades of gray.
In the undercroft’s furthest corner, a gaunt human male was coiled and ready. Doru’s eyes darted between his father and the adventurers, flickering hungrily at the now open trapdoor. Veronica and Garavon could both tell the vampire spawn was eyeing his one and only escape route.
“I’ve brought you help boy!” Donavich cried out plaintively.
