“I’m sorry for your loss Gundren. I can’t imagine losing a brother. Was your other brother with Tharden? I don’t see him here.”
Wilhorn will gladly accept the boots, seeing as without a mount, he is the slowest in the party.
”This is no place for a mount, unless you all can think of a way to bring Drool along. Gundren, will you watch out for him? And find him a good home should I fail to return?”
He transfers a few scrolls and healing potions from the saddlebags to his person or backpack and sits to study and attune to the boots.
(If anyone else wants the boots, that’s fine. 25’ vs. 30’ per round is not that big of a difference.)
”Say Gundren, how far had you and your brothers explored? Do you have a map roughly drawing out what’s beyond going north or east down there?”
The damp rope felt slick in Daewen's gloved hands. Taking a deep breath, she began her descent, a picture of controlled grace... for all of three seconds. Suddenly, her grip slipped, and with a startled yelp, Daewen tumbled down the rope like a particularly disgruntled squirrel. She bounced with a pained Oof! at the bottom, dust puffing around her like a miniature explosion.
Dazed, Daewen sat up, rubbing her backside with a grimace. Looking up at the concerned faces peering down the hole, she offered a sheepish grin, one tooth glinting mischievously in the dim light. Raising a hand, she gave them a thumbs-up, then mimed a playful ta-da! flourish, as if to say, Behold! The magnificent pratfall of Daewen the Agile! A stifled giggle escaped her, the sound muffled by her hand but evident in the crinkle around her eyes.
Taking a moment to gather herself, Daewen leaned against the rough wall, her gaze flickering to the two tunnels branching out before her. She would wait for her companions to join her, their descent hopefully less... spectacular. Once they were all assembled, Daewen would point to the eastern tunnel, then mimic the rhythmic crashing of waves with her hand. The booming sound had been growing steadily louder, and Daewen figured it was best to follow the source, especially considering Gundren's earlier explanation of the caves' geography. Besides, who knew what treasures or secrets lay hidden near the source of that fascinating water-powered percussion show?
Daewen's falling damage (let's say she fell halfway down, so 10 feet): 5 bludgeoning damage
This area consists of numerous intersecting passages. The ceilings here are only six feet high, and several of the passages end in partially excavated rock face.
Traveling north you find a maze of mined hallways, and an ochre jelly
Not getting any info on what’s north or east down there, Wilhorn takes to the rope to see if he can manage to make it to the bottom in better shape than Daewen.
Athletics: 8
Fall damage: 6
Wilhorn fails and even the springy boots don’t help much, though he could have twisted his ankle much worse without them.
He hobbles a bit until the team comes across the jelly.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ahead, a pulsating, yellow blob oozed across the floor, emitting a stench of rotten eggs and decay. Daewen's nostrils flared in disgust. No way was she getting close to that thing! Dropping to a crouch, she pressed herself flat against the wall, her movements silent and practiced. With a flick of her wrist, she nocked an arrow to her bowstring, the fletching brushing silently against her cloak. Peeking around the corner of the passage, Daewen narrowed her eyes, gauging the distance and the jelly's erratic movements. Taking a deep breath to steady her aim, she unleashed the arrow. The bowstring sang a taut song as the arrow flew true, a silver streak aimed for a vulnerable point on the ochre jelly's pulsating mass. Whether it finds its mark or not, Daewen remains glued to the wall, her eyes narrowed and focused, ready to unleash another volley the moment the first arrow finds its target.
At 3rd level, you master the art of the ambush. You can give yourself a bonus to your initiative rolls equal to your Wisdom modifier.
At the start of your first turn of each combat, your walking speed increases by 10 feet, which lasts until the end of that turn. If you take the Attack action on that turn, you can make one additional weapon attack as part of that action. If that attack hits, the target takes an extra 1d8 damage of the weapon’s damage type.
Finding your way through a simple maze of hallways, heading north you find a pool.
A still pool fills much of this cavern. The water is dark, revealing little of what might lie within. The shore of the pool consists of a thin layer of broken shells from strange, pale mussels, and a fishy odor hangs in the air. A passage leads south from this area, and a set of steps climbs up to the east. A sluggish stream flows out of the cave to the northeast
In the bottom of the 20 foot deep pool is a skeleton, with orcish arrows still in its' ribs, wearing wizard robes, clutching a wand with a ring on each finger
The skeleton wears two platinum rings (75 gp each) and clutches a wand of magic missiles in its bony fingers.
