Glyp runs north to the lip of the cliff, jumping down to the lower area at a relatively safe height. He holds out his hand and summons the familiar Shadow Blade once again into his hand, sheathing his Scimitar in favor of the more ethereal weapon. Humming to himself, he deftly slips between the Kalamin and Shadow A, spinning to position himself in the midst of the meleee (in the block to the South of Kalamin). As he spins into position the blade alights with green fire and strikes out at Shade E, the flames erupting through the Shadow to strike at nearby Shadow D.
(Movement) Jump down cliff directly north of current position, then run to be in the block South of Kalamin (lmk if that all works) (Bonus Action) Cast Shadow Blade (Action) Green Flame Blade, 18 to hit on Shadow E for 14 psychic damage, and 4 fire damage to Shadow D
As the Shadow (A) begins to move away from her, Lyra's warhammer whips out with surprising speed, sending its skull off flying like a baseball. The rest of the body crumbles, black mist dissipating in the wind.
OoC: Jumping off the ridge would give you fall damage and knock you prone. At its lowest point, it's still a 10 foot drop. Also, Lyra's AoO kills (A), so no attack on Kalamin. Holding the map here until I hear back from Glyp.
OoC: Could I do an acrobatics check to land without falling prone? If not, can I run to the spot where the elevation is lower before doubling back towards the Shadows? I'll change my attack to ranged in that case. My original intent was to go to the spot where you said "Directly north of you the lowest it gets is a 10 foot drop" before jumping down
OoC: You can do an acrobatics check to avoid falling prone. "Directly north of you the lowest it gets is a 10 foot drop" before jumping down" was in reference to Lyra's previous location.
Glyptemisslides over the edge of the ridge, tucking into a roll as he hits the ground and bouncing up to his feet. He feels some pain (4 bludgeoning) damage as the impact still jars him, but manages to keep his momentum. The Shadow (E) bursts into bone shards as his psychic blade cuts through it, raining green fire on the other (D).
The last remaining creature (D) throws out a tendril at Glyptemis, who knocks it away with his sword.
Leftenant is in awe by the displays of power from these new companions. Members able to deftly wield polearm and hammers. Or who bring forth the light and radiance of justice. Or who brings the pain of the mind to their enemies. He hopes never to be on the receiving end of their assaults.
But perhaps the battle still rages on. He steps out from behind his cover, moving to the edge of the depression, near where the tortle dropped down. He spies one lone assailant and takes aim with his bow. After releasing his shot, he goes to retrieve the torch and wonders what will become of the ghost child next.
“Nice work Kal, but I had hoped you’d be more careful. Who’s your young friend?”
Action: Attack: (To Hit: 23, Damage: 5) Other: Colossus Slayer if applicable, Damage: 6 Move: as described
The warhammer connects solidly with the shadowy creature's body, knocking bones away. A moment later LT'sarrow streaks across the battlefield, embedding in the thing's red eye. It lets out a shrill shriek before it collapses, black smoke dissipating in the air.
"Is it over?"
You hear the child's tiny voice safe from behind Kalamin.
"Well fought, friends. Foes vanquished, yet essential mysteries remain... have any of you ever experienced such undead before? Perhaps you, Kalamin, during your last memories of Baria? Despite it being over a century ago in the rest of our minds."
Lyra's eyes return to their customary warm brown as she stows her black warhammer. Her darkvision allows her to see in the dim moonlight as if it were bright light, yet she finds ironically that the unnatural, eerie stillness makes it difficult to tell if other threats still lurk nearby.
"The truth is, kiddo, we wish we knew. We'll protect you if we can - that's a promise. But something is happening here, to you, to us, to this whole place, and I don't think any of us understand it yet. Do you remember how you got here? Were you with your family in the wagon before... all this?"
Leftenant moves the long way around to join the others near the wagon. He’s quite spry for an old man, but cares not for dropping off the edge of the ridge like the tortle. “I’ve seen plenty of undead coming from Baria while stationed near the border”, he provides an answer to the musical mistress. The next part more of a whisper to Juno so as not to worry the apparition, “But I can’t say I’ve seen any that leech off of other…undead. Nor the likes of the…child.” History/Nature: 19+3=22 (same modifier for either one)

With Detect Evil and Good still up, does Juno get anything off of the kid? I should be able to discern what he is if he's anything but a living mortal. Just want to know before I reply to Leftenant.

Detect Evil and Good will tell you if there is one of the categories within 30 feet of you and where it is. It doesn't tell you the exact type like the Divine Sense feature does for paladins. But given the descriptions of the child in previous posts, they're clearly a ghost. An undead.
You might have encountered a ghost among your years as a soldier, but never one such as this that seemed trapped by something else. Similarly, while these creatures you've fought have characteristics of undead...They're unlike any you've seen before. Whatever these things are, they're new.
Kalamin
Your head is still fuzzy about the specifics of the attack at the Eyrie...But you remember the undead. They were zombies, skeletons, and the like. Nothing at all similar to the creatures you've seen here. There's something tingling at the back of your mind about these creatures. A sort of familiarity with their concept. Your subconscious knows something, but your conscious mind hasn't caught up yet
Lyra
The clearing actually seems pretty clear for now. It's still filled with that unnatural quiet though...And you aren't quite sure how safe these lands actually are now.
Leftenant
These creatures you've just fought and the others you've encountered tonight are nothing at all like what you were used to seeing at the border with Baria. The ghost child is strange to you - they're restless spirits, haunting a location on the material plane with an obsession for some unfinished business. But this one is different, he wanted to leave. Those shadowy creatures appeared to be the ones keeping him here.
OoC: Way back in post 151 there was something else LT should have noticed with his survival check relating to the current position of the moons. I was re-reading our old posts and realized my mistake. My apologies, I had a few DC levels swapped in my head.
From the corner of your eye you spot Lucine and Seliain the sky, and with a start you realize you've missed something rather large. Before you were taken, the lunar cycle was vastly different. Lucineand Seliaweren't even in the night sky at the time - only Arielle, the Dreamer's Moon. There was a significant chunk of time(at least a month) missing between your kidnapping, and your subsequent escape tonight.
The ghostly boy steps out from behind Kalaminto face Lyra, a strange look of relief on his face. You can see the soft blue glow that had been drained from his body beginning to return, washing over his torso and filling out towards his limbs. Lyrawould realize that without those things trapping him here, the boy's spirit was free to move on. You wouldn't have much longer with him.
Briefly, he beams up at LT. "My name's Lucan, what's yours?"
He seems reluctant to answer Lyra'squestion at first, swaying back and forth with a look of fear and uncertainty on his face. He inspects the somewhat elvish woman's features, and then seems to decide something. His voice is quiet as he begins to talk.
"We were running, in the cart. Mommy and daddy woke me up in the middle of the night. There was lots of screaming outside...They told me not to look" His hand goes to his head as he seems to have trouble recalling the details. "We had a big crash, and mommy and daddy were hurt. They couldn't move. Then these things came, like big black cats but scarier." He shudders, "and then it was cold...And I wanted to leave, but those things wouldn't let me."
From over Lyra’s shoulder, “How do you call yourself…little one?”
Juno nods.
"This is definitely something unheard of. The undead feed off of life usually. Destroy it. What use do they have for people who are already dead? Unless....perhaps they were using the boy to lure in more victims." She whispers back to Leftenant.
She will then carefully draw closer to stand next to Leftenant and kneel down to Lucan's level. She'll give an honest, warm smile as she looks over the boy's ghostly form. So young. A tragedy. Were those things really feeding off of him? Or perhaps they simply did so to keep him here, luring in more victims with Lucan's cries?
“Nice work Kal, but I had hoped you’d be more careful. Who’s your young friend?”
"I wish I could say that's the first time I've heard that comment."Kalamin says as the fighting dies down, smiling before bowing his head in apology. "Sorry LT, I'll be more careful. I was just antsy, still adjusting."
He answers Lyra's question to him. "No. They were more...regular undead if that makes sense. Something about these things are familiar I think but I can't just make the connection yet." He raps his skull with his knuckles. "Brain is all jumbled still. If I were to speculate...These things aren't Imane's dead raised, but coming from somewhere else."
He notes the four-legged creatures in the boy's story, the things that had ambushed their own party surely. "I'm sorry we weren't around then Lucan." The paladin says with a frown, his disappointment almost palpable. Something like this shouldn't have been allowed to happen. This entire region seemed to be under attack; the Selenic Order was gone, but where were the rest of Imane's protectors? He stows the question for later. "Do you know the name of the place you lived?"
There's a brief moment of sadness in the boy's face, but he shrugs it off with a smile as rest of his body is filled out with a bright light blue glow. "It's alright. That nice lady Lamb, she says everything is going to be okay now." He's looking at a space behind you as he speaks - you turn your heads, but see nothing yourselves.
He turns to you again. "Restat. We lived in Restat. We were trying to get somewhere else. Anywhere else."
Puzzled by the youth’s reference to someone names Lamb who isn’t there, Leftenant says to the group (including the child) “I’ve heard of Restat. I would have thought it a nice place to be, Lucan. If you were traveling from there, perhaps you have something dear to you in the carriage we could make sure was safe? A favorite toy perhaps?”
He smiles at the child, but it is full of sadness. ”You can call me LT if you’d like Lucan, plenty of others do.” He decides to table the discussion with Juno about the reasons for the shadows actions for now. He doesn’t wish to upset the child (even if he is a ghost as strange as that sounds).
The veteran wonders what would have driven the family away. What chased them here to their demise. He had considered leading the group there, it wasn’t originally that far, it probably was about the same distance away now. Would that have been a bad decision? Was it worth looking into now? Was Vinande having similar troubles?
To Kalamin, Leftenant tries to make it clear that he doesn’t fault the man. He was feeling antsy too. He just isn’t as bold and admires the knight for his actions and convictions.
A melancholy melody sounds from Lyra's dark harmonica. She smiles sadly at the ghostly child, then back at her companions.
"Some fell undead invasion seems underway in this land. Perhaps related to Baria, or to our own plight, perhaps not. If they trap the slain, I hope we can stop them as we have here. Duty lies heavier than a mountain on our shoulders, yet Death should float lighter than a feather for this one."
Turning back to Lucan, on one knee, she murmurs, "I think you no longer need our protection after all, Lucan. I am Lyra, and these are Kalamin who freed you, Glyp, Juno and LT whose name you already know. We will not forget you. If your Lady Lamb calls you, go to her."
The ghostly boy leans over the edge of the partially destroyed wagon, digging around through the spread out contents. After a moment, he returns, holding out a small wooden griffon. "His name is Rust. I always wanted to ride a real one." He puts his hands on his hips, puffing out his chest. "I was going to join Sorona's (Silvershard region's capital, located on the other side of Nora's Bay) Griffon Rider's when I got older!"
He smiles at Lyra, and nods. "Thanks for your help!" Lucan walks off in the direction he was looking earlier, and his form begins to fade. He seems to look up at someone, listening. Before he fades completely, he turns back to your group. "Lamb says she shouldn't tell you this, but she's sorry. You're going to see her before this is all over."
The ghost fades away, moving on to whatever peaceful afterlife awaits him.
Lamb
Those native to this region of Silvershard would be familiar with the name Lamb - and her connection to death. The peoples this far north consider her to be an agent or aspect of Mirophir, the god of Death. She is drawn to those close to death and the recently departed, acting as their shepherd to the afterlife.
"Ominous." Kalamin remarks as Lucan disappears with a warning. "Lyra is right though, there's something very wrong here. That boy's village is likely gone, hopefully the one we're on our way to has fared better."
