Sort of, but things can get tricksy out here in PbP-land. Interpreting things in too rigid a manner often breaks the game. Because things that would take 1 second at a table can often take a day or more with everyone posting when (and if) they can.
So like, for stuff that does not carry a specific target ('I help one of the next guys'), I don't have a problem with 'next guy' being defined as 'the next guy that would like to.' This leaves it as an open-ended sort of thing. The benefit is out there, and if folks want to use it, great, and if not, we move on with life and post the next round.
These things don't have to be open ended, mind you. If you have something more specific in mind, you may always narrow the language of the action ('I help Ted'). Then, whatever thing/benefit/buff you had in mind would be bounded by the narrative logic of the game ... to just what you said it would be. Like, you cannot say 'I use the help action for Ted' and then have Joe make an argument why he should benefit. But if you say "I use the help action for the next guy" ... then the next guy has a real strong argument to take advantage of the help action.
It can get very fluid, playing a game that normally has a rigid turn order in a manner where the actions get declared out of order. It's a convenience, mostly. An effort to cut out the wasted time we would otherwise have. But I will always try to make sure whatever we are talking about passes a 'narrative sniff check' as it were.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The die roller has been doing some weird things ... still getting used to it.
As an example, in the last IC post I made a 1d20-1 roll with advantage ... but the graphic that shows up when I hover over the roll does not match that at all.
Hmm ... will keep an eye on it. It's not great if the die roller on this site is wonly enough so as not to be trusted/used.
The test seemed to work fine ... but I did have a bunch of tags and other brackets near the IC post in question. Maybe they messed up the dice tags in some way?
@Shasher, I will be (slightly) adjusting Kneecap’s declared actions. You have currently declared too much to fit into one round’s worth of activity.
Kneecap began the round with shield donned and weapon drawn.
Casting bless requires somatic components (one free hand), and you may always interact with one object on your turn in addition to other declared actions.
So … (begin with shield donned and weapon drawn -> sheathe weapon -> cast spell) would be a legal amount of actions to fit into one round.
However, doffing the shield if you would like to and then also drawing a crossbow will have to take place after this round
@Shasher, the stealth roll appears to have been misrolled. When I hover over the result of 21, it looks like 2d20 was rolled(each with disadvantage) and then the results were added together.
In any event, Kneecap cannot get a 21 result, because he rolls Dexterity (Stealth) checks at 1d20+0.
... And Hide, in and of itself, is an action. So on the same round that Kneecap casts a spell with his action, he cannot also hide unless he has an ability that lets him do so.
I just used the default dice roller, maybe I did something wrong. I'll play around with the dice roller in my OOC post to master advantage/disadvantage rolls. :)
BTW, I wasn't trying to hide, just move quietly on my movement. I rolled the stealth in case you wanted it since I said I was I was trying to be quiet.
^^ Yes, that is generally true. I sort of don’t mind if folks throw in a roll they feel is appropriate. If we end up needing it, great. And if we don’t, into the bin it goes.
We just have to be a bit more careful, when tracking things in combat rounds, to observe the action economy.
Can one of you who feels really comfortable with the mechanics of posting give me a little tutorial (or point me to a good one) so that I can get all the different elements down better? I have been obviously able to figure out the rolling function. But there are a few things that I can't seem to figure out.
For instance: You all are pulling what looks like rolls from your character sheets? Is that true? That, or you are having links to spells or abilities in the actual post. Also, I am having a hard time posting any pictures of maps. The editor is just not letting me upload things. It could just mean that I need to switch browsers. But, thought I would ask if you had any tips.
I'll do one more push to check out Owlbear Rodeo. I made a quick map for us all and we can see if it exists even if I am not online...I think it might.
You can't upload pictures directly from your machine (afaik), the files need a url, ie: have to be on the internet. What I've been doing is sending my self a picture on discord, and then copying the link from discord, as that will give you an internet url.

Sorry for that last post without proper formatting. I’m replying via phone and don’t see the formatting tools like I do from my laptop.
No worries here. Posting from phones can get weird.
Hot dice lol

Dunno.

That makes sense, thanks. Let's assume he has the shield in hand and ignore the crossbow comment for now.

OK, i rerolled my stealth roll correctly. It's epic!
No worries on the dice roller, it seems quite finicky on this site. I'm still sorting it out as well.
In any event, the roll was not needed.
Ok, was just being proactive in case you wanted a roll. I assume you'll always take the rolls you want ignore the rest and ask for what's missing. 😀

Aw man wild magic would have been epic on my first spell but alas, didn't roll a one

I'm not pulling anything from my character sheet, here is how I've been linking things like Bless

I have a post on page 2 of OOC that I've been using to test forum things, I find it handy.
hope this helps some. I'm no expert, just starting out on dndbeyond myself!
I'm gonna try some od this out
