I'm looking for a PC to add to supplement our roster on a Greyhawk Campaign that we've been running since early 2004. We've started with Saltmarsh as a template for the first tier and soon the party will be moving on to bigger and better adventures. Currently there are seeds for further adventures in the Hool Marshes and in the Drowned Forest, but the party also has a ship and crew of NPCs and it won't be long before they are sailing away to distant lands (maybe).
If party composition/background matters to you, currently we have...
An elf bladesinger, on a diplomatic mission from the kingdom of Celene.
A human ranger, recently of southern Keoland but with old scores to settle in the north with the forces of the dark one, Iuz.
A half elf fathomless warlock, looking to build a network of information around shores of the Azure Sea.
We have been going for an 'old-school' theme, to the extent that's possible in 5e and in PbP. Think big adventure, crazy monsters, brave heroes vs ultimate evil.
Application:
We have been using 5e legacy rules.
Level 4
Races Available: Human (just regular, no variant), Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Halfling, Half-Elf, Half-Orc
Abilities: Roll 3 times. Reroll 1's (always). Pick your favorite set.
FEAT: New PC will be allowed to select 1 free FEAT at character creation. It should be something key to that character and their background, as it's a trait or ability they had even before they became a great adventurer. It should probably be worked into their backstory (ex. A mage who picked 'ELEMENTAL ADEPT' would probably have been commended as a prodigy during training for how skilled they were at manipulating fire/ice/etc... ex. A fighter who chose PIERCER may have spent time training in a militia where proper spearwork was emphasized by their drill sergeant... etc.)
Background/Backstory: The PC needs to have recently arrived in Saltmarsh. The reasons are up to you, but here are some seed ideas... there have been rumors far and wide that there is coin to be made adventuring here; Keoland is looking to reinforce this region; there is massive expansion of dwarven mining operations in this area; the Sea Princes are said to be causing trouble again for southern Keoland; bandits and raiders have begun menacing all the lands that border the Hool Marshes.

Name: Sera'ele ("Seri") Eventide <-- Link to dndbeyond character sheet Race: Half-Elf (half Aquatic Elf if allowed, otherwise just half-elf) Class: Cleric 3 (Nature Domain) / Sorcerer 1 (Divine Soul) - worships Procan Background: Custom (Acolyte / Sailor) Feat: Telekinetic (tied to her backstory below on her mother's side, a sea elf... flavored as a sudden gust of wind or rogue wave) Backstory and Image: See (first) spoiler below.
Over a decade ago, Sera'ele Eventide was found washed ashore by fishermen along the southwest coast of Keoland, between Seaton and Saltmarsh. An unconscious willowy adolescent beached like sea foam during the ebb of a new moon tide, remembering only her name and her abiding love for the oceans, her long silvery blue hair like gossamer kelp covering most of her face, though not her sharply pointed ears and strange aquamarine eyes.
Though clearly only half human (and half aquatic elf), Seri was taken in by the priest at the nearby Temple of Procan, built to worship the wild god of oceans and storms, and she responded by growing eagerly into her new role and faith. Just as she did when it came time, as for some acolytes of oceanic deities, to pay her dues in action and deeds as a sailor upon the open ocean. As her proficiency as Navigator on the privateer vessel Dragonfly grew, so too did an inner wellspring of magic, a divine spark that seemed to flow naturally like the waves beneath the Dragonfly's prow. Seri grew to love the rolling swells and far horizons of life on the ocean more than anything in the world. And deep down, she knows she always has.
Out on the open sea, a power came to Seri, growing like a muscle always present but newly-used after a long hiatus. A sudden wayward gust of wind or unexpected slap of a wave, always arriving when most opportune. As if from a flick of the ocean god's brow. Most useful, she found, this marine Telekinetic impetus, on a vessel like the Dragonfly with lines and rigging sometimes just beyond reach. Or to nudge that last bit of cargo or the jolly boat back to its proper place. Or to push a pirate overboard, arms windmilling to retain their balance before falling to Procan's roiling embrace.
Too soon came the day that she was called back to the Temple of Procan, her priestly naval tour of duty officially concluded. A summons she was faith-bound to honor. A summons she was loath to heed. For, Seri knows deep in her bones and soul that the kingdom of Procan is not to be found amidst landbound walls and shrines, but out towards the blue horizon, in the white spray of the open sea, and in its deeps. Yet return she did, dutifully if reluctantly and belatedly, only to find that someone had visited the Temple of Procan in her absence, looking for her.
Seri's own mother.
Someone she only recalls in brief flashes, like glints of warm sunlight filtering through a deep kelp forest. Yet the sea-elven woman had already left, the priests tell her, returning to the salt water. Leaving behind only a cryptic warning that her daughter should take care and remain vigilant. That the waves themselves have teeth...
Seri Eventide cannot fathom what this might mean. Yet she intends to find out. Especially if it affords her the chance to strike out from the Temple once more (with the grudging acceptance of the priests) along the coast, first to Saltmarsh. To discover what her mother might have intended...
^^^ See spoiler above for Seri's backstory and image. ^^^
Looking at your composition, it being Saltmarsh, and with Greyhawk being the OG setting, with all of the biggest names in the setting basically coming from here. I’m torn between a rogue and a bard. I think I’ll go for a bard because although a rogue might want to make more money and seek to take advantage of Keoland’s expansionist opportunities a bard has a better opportunity to expand beyond Saltmarsh where it’s Iuz, or the Eight, or whatever larger adventurers they have as they travel beyond, and as a bard are well set up to high fantasy high stakes good versus evil classic tropes.
With a warlock and wizard, and a ranger, they can be a bit of that skill monkey/expert role that might be absent. As possibly college of dance they can be a bit more Melee too. But I need to lock down the subclasses in my head again for Bard. I’ll do the ability rolls here and then fill in application in a separate post.
Backstory: All is not well in The See of Medegia. For those born outside the See, this is perhaps common rumour. Some say Starvik Jerel, most holy and high Censor, rose to prominence with pacts not with the most high but the most low and infernal. Slander, surely, of those with lesser fervor or zeal to see the most holy will done and light resplendent burn across the world.
Born in eastern Flanaess, the half-elf once known as Cul’vert was a prodigy. Few are born to an Elven mother and a Merchant father in the See, and his mother’s elven education and his father’s mercantile acumen found fertile ground in young Cul’vert, who mastered every mundane pursuit to which he was directed with unnatural alacrity.
At 8 years of age, he was accepted to a preparatory school for the College of Lore, and continued to shine. He mastered instruments, arcane theory, history, religion and practical pursuits and was identified as one with the wide skillset to allow travel beyond the arms of the Theocracy, to do their good works.
His collegiate mission is to travel westward seeking arcanums and trivia from the ancient magics of the past, particularly the Invoked Destruction and Rain of Colorless Fire in theaters that are less plumbed than the steppes and battlefields long since picked dry.
As a wandering agent, he goes only by the name Bard (Of the See, or else O’See on forms) as he travels his way westward to Greyhawk then down the coast into Old Keoland, with the village of Saltmarsh his next stop. He keeps his eyes open and his mind wide, pretending to be a simple minstrel, and it is not long before he too begins to wonder why the College of his youth is so secretive, and his homeland so repressive. No, all is not right in the Holy See, and he is beginning to see that now…
Wizard (Illusionist) level 4 (assuming using 2014 rules for spells, gear and abilities, can easily change him to 2024).
Free Feat : Eldritch Adept - Misty Visions - his master was a true illusionist who had learned the some of the true secrets of reality over the centuries. He deemed Bjorn worthy enough to pass on this secret on to him.
Backstory: Bjorn has always been a strange one. Though a diligent worker he has never been happy just doing the same thing day in and day out. So far, the only thing that seems to satisfy him is traveling the lands and marveling at the world outside the mines. He apprenticed under an illusionist learning the magical arts. After his apprenticeship he decided to go on a walk about.
He joined a rag tag group of builders, who plied their trade for various lords by building, repairing roads and, inns and small forts.
Bjorn deiced to take leave of the group when it came near the Salt Marshes and he heard about the mining operation. The dwarf was feeling a little nostalgic, remembering his youth in the mines from decades ago. It would be nice to be among his fellow dwarves for a few weeks or months enjoying good brew and food, before moving on.
I’ll put my hat in the ring! I’m always keen to try new stuff, and Greyhawk is something I’ve never gotten the chance to do.
Now, let’s see if the dice gods hate me today:

Before I submit my application, I do have a question: Is there a campaign with content sharing? I’ll still apply, it just might affect what I decide to play
"My daughter, these past few weeks I have hearing disturbing things." the old man looked at Misha with warm brown eyes.
"What kinds of things father?" Misha looked up from her studies.
"Oh you know the kinds of things that I was trying to get you away from when I found you?" he smiles and shakes his head with a regretful smile. "You gave those things up yes?"
"Of course! I've been clean since I joined the Grove." she blows a wayward lock of hair out of her face.
The Druid nods, "Well I think it would be a good idea if you set some of that energy of yours to helping those in need."
"Sure thing father, I'll pack right away." closing her book.
"Remember, Strength of Heart, Strength of Mind, Strength of Body."
"Yes father," and she knocked elbows with the surprisingly muscular arms of the man who literally saved her life. Being a member of the Grove gave her an appreciation for the natural world around her and softened the hard edges of her youth.
I offered a placeholder to this original thread, then forgot to come back and make a character. lol. Still love the idea, time to throw my hat in the ring (For real this time)

Lacie LaRouge, at your service. I wasn't able to get the human stat bonus with the 2024 Criminal background, which is the only way I could find to add an appropriate starting Feat. Do you need to add the Alertness feat or should I manually increase the Ability scores by 1 point each after getting the 2024 Criminal background?
Lacie stood at the docks of Saltmarsh, a smile on her face. A forced smile on her face. She tried not to say anything about the small town, but having grown up in Greyhawk, and being both Alert and Observant, she noticed Everything that was different from Greyhawk. If she hadn't needed (well, to be honest, wanted) more gold, she wouldn't have followed the ads for employment. Maybe those dwarves needed help mining. She started walking, hoping that the inn was reasonably priced.
Good day! I'm reopening recruitment.
