As Kneecap swings and sways through the midday Westhaven crowds gathering toward the center of town, he spots a field off in the distance, still within the walls of west haven. Heading southwest he eventually arrives at a crop field growing various types of fruits and vegetables. The section directly in front of him is a field of beautifully bulbous fruit growing stoutly from large open leaves that sit just above the ground, almost like the shape of a cabbage, only the fruit in the center is smaller, perhaps the size of two of kneecaps fists. This field is growing several rows of them and they range from variations of reds, purples, and blues. Approaching the field offers a subtly sweet scent in the air.
As callim is preparing for the day, he hears a knock on the door, as Sabina and Volneer approach
"Welcome friends." Calim welcomes Sabina and Volneer to the prepared spot and pops his head out the window to check on Darak.
Perception (for lack of a better thing to role for...is the apprentice back with the food) 17 (15+2)
Darak is moving at a clip along an alley to cut between two buildings, an alternative route from the Mist and Flask that may be a bit of a squeeze, but shaves 3 mins off the errand. As he enters, he carries a basket with two bundles on top, he prompts Calim to hold the bottom of the basket and he quickly whisks away back to Elena with both bundles, then busies himself quickly to catch up on the work he has missed.
"That is the amazing Darak," Calim gestures to the blur of a lad, "and my daughter Elena is working at cracking the secret code to the perfect horse shoe over there." Calim looks proudly at his daughter, artfully swinging the hammer.
"Feel free to dig in to the food. It looks like we are waiting on one more. But, I think it is not the worst idea to start to formulate a plan, the three of us, and see if our cleric friend might settle for small alterations or edits. I feel like time might be of the essence, as our work from last night has certainly been discovered by now."
Volneer looks at Sabina, and then at Calim, and says, "We told the guildmaster of our excursion. He was rather... difficult, about our situation. I reminded him of his authority, or rather lack of it, under the Edicts, but..." He looks to Sabina for the rest of the story.
“Heeeyyy, you thinkin about stealing our Noriberries?” A voice comes from a distance— that of a hearty young-adult female. As kneecap follows the voice, he sees a young stout halfling mid-toss, as a large Berry gets hurled his way. He sees it coming, and can grasp onto it easily. “Heheh, the first one’s on the house, Just don’t tell my ma. Any more is gonna cost you a silver. But, I don’t make sales, you’ll have to visit my parents in the farmhouse— I just grow the stuff. It was nice meeting a fellow stoutkin; I like your beard!”
”oh, and by the way, the red ones are the best!”
without another word, the young farmhand races off to tend to other crops. kneecap has one red Noriberry
As she runs off Kneecap yells "May all your travels be downhill, or at least level. haha. and as the halfling disappears from his sight, he adds, mostly to himself, "Oh, and thanks."
Sabina steps inside and takes one of the seats Calim offers. She nods at Volneer's comment. "Yes, we spoke to the guild master. Or tried to at least. He basically couldn't be bothered to actually listen to us, suggested we were unfit to be adventurers, then insinuated that you Calim were dim-witted. Along with us as well of course." There's clear disdain in her voice as she relates this. "He tried to take the stone that Volneer had, then had the nerve to complain of there being too much to do, when we had offered to step in to help out and been dismissed!"
"After correcting the man on his manners, he barely changed his tune," Sabina continues. "He called your exploration an unsactioned field trip. He insisted on Calim and the rest report to him tomorrow and then he might decide to allow more exploration." She shakes her head. "I say we just get on with the business and leave him out of it!"
Looking around, Kneecap has a great view of a large scape of crop fields leading up to the towns timber walls. Nestled on the north end is a little farmhouse with the front door propped open. Further north west the landscape rises high above the town, where a clearing and lumber mill have been constructed. Northeast leads back into town.
Kneecap takes a bite of the red Noriberry and thinks it is …OK. It’s a bit tart for his taste. He will approach the farmhouse, “Hello! Anyone here? My name is Kneecap, I’d like to buy some of your fruit.”
Kneecap is interested in buying 5-10 of each color.
He will ask simple questions to get a lay of the land, he’s not trying to figure out much, just new to the town and looking to get acquainted.
Calim scoots his chair up closer to the table and leans in, "I have carefully crafted a dim-witted identity here." He almost winks at Sabina, arching an eyebrow. "You will find that the people here lean a bit toward tribal, reactive and sloppy. They are good at heart, but they are afraid of their own shadows." He leans back again a bit, "I'm not surprised with that reception. Maybe next time try playing it down a bit. A little obsequiousness mixed with a bungle with some weapons tends to turn the political tide here." His lean back goes from casual to cartoonish as he pushed back into the wall and does a ridiculous pratfall.

"See, carefully crafted dim-wit."
From his crumpled location on the floor, Calim pulls a few papers, a quill and ink pot from underneath a cupboard. He places it on the table and begins to sketch out the previous night's map, to the best of his ability.

"I say we start a bit of plotting before our compatriot arrives. I'm assuming you all are ready to restart our unsanctioned field trip?"
Sabina give Calim a small grin as he mentions his 'carefully crafted' identity. "Well, I'm glad you can do that. Not sure I want to be known as dim-witted. And I may have... given him a piece of my mind already." When he asks about continuing the 'unsanctioned field trip' she nods her head. "You can count me in."
Kneecap enters the farmhouse and is met with racks and shelves of preserved foods, jams, honeys, etc. a jingle from the door signals an elderly halfling woman to greet you with a big smile. The exchange is made, and for 15 SP kneecap has himself 5 red, 5 purple, and 5 blue Noriberries!
Kneecap makes the transaction and leaves the farmhouse with his Noriberries. He continues his jaunt through town, trying both the blue and purple berries. His preference are the blue. “Perhaps because it reminds me of the Sea?” he says to himself, “Hahaha no, its because the red and purple one’s taste like … humph” He stops in his tracks, both walking and thinking.
He stands before Calim’s forge, “Well that wasn’t my plan, but perhaps it is his” he thinks as his hand goes to the whalebone carved holy symbol around his neck.
Kneecap walks in, just in time for Calim to appear to lose his balance and then laugh about it.
“I brought some fruit. You should all try the red ones, oh and the purple ones also. Hahaha” he says, seeing the others all gathered there, taking a bite of a blue noriberry.
"Could I try one of each?" Sabina asks as Kneecap offers the berries. "Very nice of you Kneepcap to bring them." She will try whichever of the berries she is given. "Are you going to be rejoining the group to explore outside of town?" She then turns her attention back to Calim. "You said something about plotting? Since I've not been there, I'm not sure how much I'll contribute."
Volneer looks down at his plateful of food as kneecap enters, and summons up a mage hand to grab one of the red fruits. The mage hand hovers in front of him and holds the fruit while he eats it, writing on a small piece of paper.
Sabina walks over and grabs one each of the red and purple berries. Going to sit back down, she first tastes the red and the purple as she waits to hear what the plan is for their explorations. "Mmm, the red ones are delicious. But the purple are good too. A very tasty treat Kneecap."
Calim looks warmed by the conviviality of his new team, smiling to himself.
"I think the prudent thing to do would be to get back in there as quickly as possible. A well-crafted and timed plan is one thing...the element of surprise another. We obviously don't have the initial surprise anymore. But, they might be put off that we have decided to come back. I say we provision ourselves well with traps, alarms and room clearing implements, but move quickly and develop the plan as situations develop. My offer for an overall concept is...one scout leads us, checking for their attempts to trap us as we go...the rest of the team sets various alerts and clears rooms...we move at a fairly steady pace and make our offensive swift."
Calim stops to see if there is agreement, takes a sip of water, and continues, "I'm most interested to see if they have some plan in the works and stop them in time. This town and its bumbling leaders may be shortsighted. But, they don't deserve the fresh hell that seems to have set it's sights on them."
He begins to write down a list of supplies that he thinks will be relevant on a scrap of parchment: caltrops or ball bearings string and bells tar pot or oil large animal trap and rags
"We may well have a few of these on us already. I am certain that my shop has something that could work as ball bearings or caltrops, certainly some jacks at least. And, the shop in town will have provisions enough to cover the rest. What do you all have? Or, do you have other ideas to add to the list?"
Investigation 6 (4+2)
Calim looks a bit while talking and comes up short on the caltrops. Looking frustrated, "So, we don't have much of anything here, it seems."
Sabina's hand moves to some of the pouches she carries, but she shakes her head. "I don't really have any of those things. But I guess we could buy some?" She glances around at the others to see if any of them might have these things. "Are we planning on setting up traps?" she asks. "If I'd known I could have set up some things. Maybe for tomorrow I could do that?"
Volneer is sketching a rough map of the dungeon they as they have been through it. "I suppose we could set traps. However, I believe that we would have a better time if we were simply prepared to fight our way through."

Kneecap walks through the fruit and vegetable garden, inspecting many products which he has never seen before.
“Smells delicious, ooohhh that one looks extra sweet!” and he bends down to grab a fruit, but then immediately stops himself standing up straight.
“Bah, what’s wrong with me, at sea, I would never pull up another man’s net, why would I do that on land? I’m sure it’s the same.”
He will look around for a way to purchase some of these exotic fruits and vegetables to help him forget about the hard cheese he had this morning.
If he can find someone, he will buy as many as he can carry, including the one he stuffs in his mouth as he pays, and then walk off.
