"Do you think we would we be able to secure one area without drawing enemies from other spots?" Sabina asks. "I'd hate to get overwhelmed. What sort of creatures have you faced down there?"
“We fought mostly the undead, and a few cultists summoning up goo monsters” Kneecap says to Sabina.
Turning to Calim, he adds “I don’t know much about traps and plans and such, but if your thinking we should go back down there, I’d say we get a move on it, take that X thingy we found and look at the door?” and shrugs.
Sabina gives a quick nod. "Yea, sounds like we should just get going. Is everyone ready?" She glances back at Calim. "Or do we get some supplies first?"
“We’ll it is getting dark outside, not that it matters since we’ll be underground. Shall we head out? Calim, are you ready, or are you still making lists? Hahaha.” Kneecap laughs so hard at his joke, Noriberry juice shoots out his nose, causing him to laugh even harder. “HAHAHAHA” he goes on.
Each of you preparing your gear, you set off in the direction of the southeastern gate. As you approach the large wooden gate, the guards on post inquire about the reason your party is leaving westhaven. “Town’s closed temporarily until we get a handle on what happened yesterday. Not supposed to be letting citizens in or out— what business do you have outside the walls?”
Sabina grins at the exchange between Kneecap and Volneer. She glances again to Calim to see if he does still want to buy some things. If he does, she will certainly support that, despite being eager to get going.

Not supposed to be letting citizens in or out— what business do you have outside the walls?”
"The correct question is: What business do you have asking? I'm not a citizen, and your job is to protect us while we're inside the walls, not prevent us from going outside. Let us through." Persuasion: 15.
“As the name commands, Westhaven has a reputation of being the only safe stronghold this far west in all of the world. Theocora’s safest and only haven in Norea. It’s not only our job to keep citizens safe in the walls, it’s the duty of the guard to uphold and preserve the idea of safety and security of westhaven. we can’t be seen as liable and careless while Citizens… or otherwise… frolic about the Norean Wilderness and getting dead or dismembered by savages.”
the guard speaks to you with a quiet, calm, and tired tone.
“personally, it’s no weight on my shoulders whether or not you want go out and get killed. But I’ve got a job to do, and I just asked a simple question. Chances are we’ll be opening up the town again in the coming days, once we figure all this out. If you’ve got a problem with it, take it to the high council, or the overseer himself.”
he stares at you with serene eyes, patiently waiting for a response without dismissing you.
"We are investigating that underground place that opened up outside of town," Sabina replies to the guard, trying to at least satisfy the question he had asked. "We already spoke with the guild master. I think that is a big source of those threats to the city. And we've got to find out more about it!" She of course left out a lot of the details of how the conversation with the guild master went, but she just hoped he wouldn't ask for more information. She glances around at her companions. Talking her way out of a situation wasn't necessarily her strength, so she hopes one of the others might be able to help her out.
“The girls right” Kneecap adds. “We were there yesterday, fighting cultists and undead, helping keep the people of Westhaven safe. Hopefully our work makes your job easier. If we don’t get back there soon, it’s just more time for the cultists to regroup and summon larger slime monsters.”
He says all this, calmly, matter of fact. Then offers the guard one of his last remaining Noriberry, a purple one.
Sabina, from what you just said, the guard will be under the assumption the guildmaster sanctioned this trip. Feel free to roll a deception check with advantage (help from kneecap) to see how well this is received.
Calim adjusts the gear he is wearing to make sure that the guardsman sees that he is with the group.
"Evening lads, twilight is always a good time to defend our town, is it not? There are cultists down there that we are going to dispatch, keep them away from our more vulnerable folks." Calim is clearly showing all his gear to the guards too, proving that he is prepared and ready for this adventure.
Low rolls here 13 (12+1 on Persuasion if I get my Westhaven advantage 8 (7+1) if I don't)
Volneer shakes his head and begins to speak slowly, something Sabina will remember as what he did when speaking to a student who was being stubborn about something. "You... don't... have... authority... to... keep... me... here. I... was... fighting... through... these... caves... yesterday, and... I... intend... to... finish... today. My... comrades... and... I... are... not... your... problem. The cultists in the d*** cave are your problem! Just let us through!"
“Oh, my apologies ma’am; I didn’t know you were with the guild. And ol’ Callim I didn’t see you back there! If this is a sanctioned trip beyond the wall by the Guild, then by all means— Tolstaar, let them pass” the guard calls out to his colleague as a more fit guard stands by the gate, and at his command begins to open its heavy double doors. “Callim, perhaps some some words of wisdom and patience to your… friend here. He need not make trouble with the Norean guard.
you should find your guild colleagues guarding the entrance of the sinkhole, good luck to you all out there, and I hope for a safe return!”
Sabina immediately takes the opportunity to head out through the gate. "Thank you," she says with a smile to both the guards as she passes. She motions for the others to come along as well.

At this point in the evening, you have just a few hours of daylight before night falls.

Volneer shakes his head and smiles with a look the says, quite plainly, dwarves.
