The shadows in the murky water are nearer than they appear when you notice them top late to make a run for shore. On all sides the hideous aquatic things burst from the glassy surface of the lake, surrounding the four adventurers who dared to tread on its waters.
The creatures resemble large lobsters, about 8 feet long, with a dark yellow-green exoskeleton, four long legs, two large claws, and a fan-like tail
Their uppar bodies have powerful pincers suitabke for crushing prey and the tentacles around their mouths drip with sticky saliva that stretches and drools between the tendrils surrounding their toothy maws.
Attack: 26 Damage: 11 acid damage. Half damage on a miss.
"Lobster monsters! We need to get off the water and find somewhere defensible!"

A while back you said we can each select 3 uncommon items. Can I grab those right before the fight starts? A suit of magical armor, wand of magic missiles, and bag of holding?

<Did I say 3? OK. I thought it was 1, buy I really don't recall. I typically gave little regard for character creation rules. If they had one functional standard for high-level starts with maybe 3 levels of magic, that would be great.>

Sparhawk hits Chuul#4 just barely getting past it's rough carapace with his first strike, but in doing so, opens it up for a send fierce attack that lands solidly, cracking the creature's shell as it gurgles a disturbing ululation through its flailing mouth-tentacles.
(ooc: I chose a suit of magical Mithral Half Plate which would be AC 15 + my DEX mod +1 for a total of AC 16... but with the permanent damage from the acidic attacks of the black pudding it is now a suit of magical Mithral Half Plate that is AC 13 + my DEX mod +1 for a new total of AC 14. I put the change under customize in my AC on my sheet.)

Ok. So roll grapple check to escape dc14. I didn't look at your old ac but I was guessing the 22s hit.
