(OOC: Sparhawk is a vengeance paladin. His code involves people who abuse power. However, the greater good would be to negotiate the release of the slaves and for them to safely bring them to the surface.)
That's like negotiating with the southern states that decided on secession and the bloodiest war in American history. It's a tough thing to negotiate even as the city itself is already on the edge of a civil war, but, yeah okay. You could try that.
"Maybe we could find some other way to help and ask for the slaves to be freed as part of the deal?"
Kos doesn't like slavery but from his many years living underground he is familiar with the practice as many drow, duergar, and mind flayers traffic with slaves often.

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
"Yes, that is my thought. If we can assess their value, we can then negotiate with that value, but not only freed, they would require safe passage to the surface."
I'm not pricing slaves. Just use the hireling rates. Figure it for 90 days, so 180sp for unskilled or 180gp for skilled. If you want them as NPCs that do stuff, I'd say pay the skilled rate, if they are just story devices with no mechanics, just pay silver.
You do notice the unblinking eyes of some of the fish people stealing glances at any holy symbols you might have exposed.
(Nah, get info on the caverns above, negotiate the release/ rescue of the prisoners…but open to other options). Meet with the one that was expecting us
Ok ritually casting detect magic and then looking at. The market items. So as to seee if any of the lesser valued items by this city are actually magical.

Sparhawk will learn more about hiring some or all of the prisoners for their expedition.
”hello, we are exploring the caverns above and could use their skills. How much for the lot?”
You're buying them. You can set them free or whatever you want but they're just selling them. You have the prices. They are chattel, goods for sale. But you coukd possibly barter something.
This is some meta so if you want them to be plot points they're far cheaper than if they're going to do things mechanically. Assuming the former, the five of those out of the 50 or so slaves present would be 900sp = 90gp. The latter would be 900gp. For every slave split the difference and say 450gp.
“Thank you for your time.” Sparhawk says to the merchant. “I’ have a bit more business to attend to and then will be back.”
to his companions, “After our business is complete, unless any disagree, I plan on purchasing the freedom of these 5 individuals. I then propose we escort them to the surface. If any wish to join us, we can consider them case by case.”
"I agree with Captain Sparhawk. After our business is complete and we are ready to leave we should return for these prisoners."
Kos may of been exposed to the many instances of slavery that are prevalent in the underdark but he hates the idea.

Sparhawk will find out the asking price of leach of the slaves listed.

Also, feel free to cast detect magic. It's not like forbidden or anything.
(Ooc Sparhawk has the holy symbol of Marduk on his armor and shield)
Yup. They won't recognize it as such, necessarily but you're shield is like a Rolex right now. You'll never get a better price for it than down here.
I am just trying to save leveled spells. So trying to lean into ritual casting.
Ten minutes is ten minutes. Nobody's going to stop you casting a spell here.
So the plan then is to overthrow the city's dueling theocratic rulers and lead a slave rebellion or no?

{I'm not opposed to leading a rebellion though. I haven't liked much of what I've seen of either leader.}
[A paper drops out of a flash of light and drifts to the ground at your feet] -(extended sig)-
{Does Baron know if his patron is either of these gods BTW?}

I don't think you ever told me who you're patron is. Is it Blibdoolpoolp?

There are some magic items. What do you want

It's not a realistic economic engine.
