Dornin shoots up right as he feels Kallith’s magic surge through him. He takes long deep breath feeling life flow through him once more and shakily stands using boxes to assist him. Dornin looks to Octo standing close. “Please tell me we do not have to worry about that man anymore” He waves a hand over himself casting prestidigitation to clean the blood and filth off his clothing.
He turns to Kallith and waits patiently to speak with her. In Giant-tongue he says “Kallith, once again I am in your debt, without you I would just be another unfortunate casualty on this day. Know this, from this day forward, I will spend my life attempting to make it up to you, you have my word.”
Dornin once again addresses his group of friends, “ I may not look the part, but I will fight by your sides. Please tell me someone came up with a plan while I was out”
I don't know if anybody claimed the Captains Items....but don't forget the Assassins bandoleer...
Dornin empties the bandoleer, pulling each item from its small pouch or strap to place them upon the decking. A pair of daggers, a small pouch with a dozen chips of crystalline gems, a single smooth blue stone with an engraved symbol upon its surface. Three thin vials of liquid, one thick and clear, another a goopy blue substance and the third a rosy hued liquid with black specks floating within. A small leather bound book the size of your palm. The leather is a pale brown, exceptionally soft and luxurious. A sigil is etched into the cover, depicting a skull surrounded by blood drops. A small pouch of coins from various locales some square or octagon, some solid others with holes punched through their centers. 3 pp, 12 gp, 16 sp, 22 cp
(OOC- Since the assassin’s journal is written in infernal and Dornin can read infernal, is there anything in it there when he looked through it that connects to anything he said while under the spell. Or anything that might give hint to where their hideout or ritual may take place.)
The small book feels supple within your grasp, the leather a hint of silk. Within the spine a thin shard of coal. Opening the first page a tight grim script emerges. The characters elegant yet have an unsettling overtone. The book is written in Infernal, the pages swimming before your eyes, the letters meld and stretch in an unsettling way. Any not used to the language would question their minds attempting to read it.
The book is written by an apprentice, lessons, reminders, things to remember, each page filled with multiple short passages, many times a single word. The last page has a pair of words written in common, Nathair, and Sanguin underneath it
I was looking back to see how many potions we got, and was wondering a bit about the loot we got from the captain. Does this seem accurate?
Chandle - 4 Healing Potions (think its 3 now)
Molly / Skeela - 224 gp in coins, so gone for us
Kallith - Scrolls of find familiar, detect magic and prayer of healing
? - Dagger of Poison
? - Potion of Speed (purple)
? - Elixir of Health (light blue)
? - Vial with Dragon Motif - Did we ever find out what this is?
Are any of the ?'s claimed and I missed it? Want to make sure we use our resources :)
[Kallith would not claim any of the "?". And to be honest I think I missed where we got the spell scrolls. Thanks for keeping track. 😅 (the thread search here also wan't useful at all to find out more]
Kallith looks slightly surprised at the earnest promise from Dornin. Slightly embarassed she says: "I've just done what anyone would've.."
If the druid has access to them, she will have a look at the three thin vials of liquid, one thick and clear, another a goopy blue substance and the third a rosy hued liquid with black specks floating within [nature 7, medicine 7, if herbalism tool proficiency grants advantage on these: nature 7, medicine 12 (just my luck!)]
She adds: "Maybe I can find out more about these with some time, but I don't think we have much of that at the moment."
To Arban she says, while glancing at the book that Dornin had looked at: "Perhaps these two names mean something? Nathair and Sanguin?"
She is just spitballing at this point, not having heard the assassin speak before he died.
Octo will share with everyone what the Assassin said before he died. Hearing the update from Kallith after talking with Arban, he says “I think time is running out for the girl, perhaps we should start checking out these brothels? Maybe we can ask Arban if he knows anyone named Ari or Nathair?”
Dornin, do you need a short rest before we get started? I fear waiting but also fear not being ready for what’s to come.”
Placing the Captains belongings, The Assassins bandoleer and other possessions on the table you talk for a bit, trying to piece the parts together. Where have they taken the girl top of mind. Passing around a couple items and stowing any you already understand you pick up and inspect the others.
Kallith is unable to discern many of the properties of the liquids contained in the thin vials. The Clear vial is acrid, it burns the nostrils, a tiny drop sizzles on the tip of a dagger. The blue one smells fresh, a cool breeze blowing over a briny sea. The Third is aromatic and sweet, beckoning of spring rains and fresh cut hay.
Fingering the small stone with its etched surface the Minotaur twirls it between his fingers. Murmuring to himself, "I've seen somethin like this" he looks up quickly, catching Chandles eye. Realizing he just sent a message to the Dwarf without speaking aloud. Closing his fist around it quickly he understands, the stone is from a pair.
Sending Stones come in pairs, with each smooth stone carved to match the other so the pairing is easily recognized. While you touch one stone, you can use an action to cast the sending spell from it. The target is the bearer of the other stone. If no creature bears the other stone, you know that fact as soon as you use the stone and don't cast the spell.
Once sending is cast through the stones, they can't be used again until the next dawn. A stone may, by itself, be used to cast Message instead to a single recipient, as the cantrip message
You flip through the items losing patience. Arban carries a tray of steaming tea, the fragrance lifting the room. "Sanguine i do not know. I don't like it either, feels slimy and wet, foul on my tongue you know. Strange how a simple word can do that, create a feeling I mean." He smiles, some what embarrassed by his musings. "Ari i don't know, but Nathair. Well everybody here knows Nathair. She runs the most exclusive pleasure house here. I heard you can get anything you could possibly dream of. She's a snake though. I mean literally. Her legs are the tail of a snake."
Dornin’s eyes widen when Arban speaks of knowing who Nathair is and more importantly, where they may be. “Pleasure house it is then” Upon hearing about Nathair’s serpentine features, he thinks back on studies where he might have heard about such things “Yuan-ti perhaps? Rare, but not impossible. Arban, would you be able to tell us exactly where this pleasure house is?”
Dornin looks up at Octo and shakes his head in agreement. “I could certainly use a little while to rest, Who knows what kind of fight we may have on our hands. I am going to lay in my hammock, yell when we’re ready to head out. (Dornin will attempt to take a short rest before we go)
Kallith nods her head in agreement to what Dornin said, even though she looks worried about the time. But the warlock was in a bad way, so there wasn't much to be done about it.
[Kallith doesn't benefit much from a short rest, most of her spell slots and features are already spent. But at least I get a wild shape back.]
Chandle happily adds the potions from the box for distribution and identification. “Better spread out our resources to get the most benefit.” Chandle nods at Octo’s message <excellent this mind speak could prove to be invaluable.>
She also finds a quiet space to rest. *used 1HD for +3HP
Octo is a bit freaked out by what just happened. He has never “cast” magic before. The sensation was strange, but powerful.
“Perhaps this Ari or Nathair has the other sending stone? I could attempt to communicate with them. Ask them when the Ritual will start, or ask them to delay it? Or maybe that’s a horrible idea and I’d make things worse?”
Octo does not need to rest (nothing to gain) so will instead inspect the vials we retrieved from the assassin’s bandolier, and generally keep watch on the ship.
Rolling what Kallith did, LMK if you want something else: nature: 2, medicine: 14
Lotions, potions, elixirs and salves, powders and dusts. there are as many recipes as their are practitioners. Arcane teachings, religious texts, forbidden knowledge and forgotten lore. The thin vials are not created by any hedge wizard. Two of them have true power, the third has the taint of something hienous.
The clear vial burns, the taste is bitter with an intense burn. The poison of a Wyvern is distinct, and painful. The blue vial, with the scent of the sea would allow you to breath underwater. The rosy hued vial is sweet, a calm comes over you with just the scent. It has strong restorative qualities.
Wyvern poison
This poison must be harvested from a dead or incapacitatedwyvern. A creature subjected to this poison must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw, taking 24 (7d6) poison damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Injury. Injury poison can be applied to weapons, ammunition, trap components, and other objects that deal piercing or slashing damage and remains potent until delivered through a wound or washed off. A creature that takes piercing or slashing damage from an object coated with the poison is exposed to its effects.
Potion of water breathing
You can breathe underwater for 1 hour after drinking this potion. Its cloudy blue fluid smells of the sea and has a jellyfish-like bubble floating in it.
Potion of Regeneration 1HP/round When you drink this effervescent pink liquid, your body’s natural healing powers are radically accelerated. You regain hit points each round at the start of your turn for 1 minute.
If you take acid or fire damage, you do not regenerate at the start of your next turn. If you are reduced to 0 hit points, you do not regain hit points but have advantage on death saves each round unless you take acid or fire damage. Once you have drunk a potion of regeneration, if you drink another before you complete a long rest you gain 1 level of exhaustion.
Arban is able to give you precise directions to the Brothel. Short rest Completed
OOC: Does anyone want to claim/carry one of these new potions? If not I can add them to my sheet. Would a shared doc with these items be helpful, or do just add to our sheets and move on?
[I'm fine if you add them to your sheet. Should we accidentally leave something behind, so be it. Kallith doesn't pick stuff up due to her distrusting stance on worldly possessions.] [I am however unclear in the potion of regeneration. It says one regains hit points each round, but not how many hit points?]
“Perhaps this Ari or Nathair has the other sending stone? I could attempt to communicate with them. Ask them when the Ritual will start, or ask them to delay it? Or maybe that’s a horrible idea and I’d make things worse?”
Kallith looks unsure. "Maybe one of his assassin friends have the stone. I don't want them to know about us. We shouldn't use it until we find the second one."
“Yeah, it’s a big risk, too big for now” Octo says, agreeing with Kallith.
“So, we know where we need to go, are we all ready? I know we’ve all had enough of this assassin, but what do you think about, … looking like him Dornin? It may help us get in. Though if he is the last person you would want to look like, I understand” he adds with a smile.
Dornin falls back in with the group, a large smile runs across his face with Octo’s suggestion. “My friend, nothing would make me happier than to stain that man’s foul name amongst his friends by making him a traitor. We should keep in mind, however, he did say that one of them would see ‘who we really are’ hopefully that doesn’t include my disguise.” Dornin stretches his neck and within moments takes form of the former assassin. He finishes it off by strapping his actual belongings on to him, making sure to bring the journal. “How about we actually bring this girl home this time, shall we?”
Arban gave you perfect directions. You travel in deeper into the cavern, leaving the main dock well behind. The walls and buildings encroach tightly until the balconies on either side nearly touch. The wood and populace hangs over top weighing down upon you. Mistress Nathairs stands across the catwalk from where you stand. The entrance is simple and understated, elegant colours painted upon the wall. A well armed doorman stands watching the boardwalk, occasionally opening the door for a patron.
A few citizens come out and a few go in while you watch. Nothing untoward stands out from either group, a motley assortment of men and woman, of several races. It seems the chaos at the docks did not penetrate this far into the caverns, dozens of Rapscallions wander about, visiting the shops and businesses or rushing back home.
Kallith looks at the establishment with squinted eyes. It seemed so normal. The pretty colors made this house quite a bit more appealing that than the other ramshackle dwellings surrounding it.
"If there is a temple burrow beneath this thing, maybe there is a secret entrance? I can't imagine they just carried Isbiel through the front door past all of the other people. I'll try to see if I can find anything out."
Kallith assumes her rat form, the same furry rodent as before. She then scurries away and starts slinking around any side alleys or back streets, if she finds them. The druid looks for potential entrances away from the front door [P: 15][I: 20] and hopefully away from prying eyes [S: 10].
