'It better just be an awkwardly angled gust that closed the trapdoor, rather than the source of those bumps earlier...I'll be having serious words with Volo if he gave us a haunted house...' mutters Xaul, who is currently sat at a table, scratching out a list of things he'd like to see in his clothes for the tailor to read, though they might struggle as his atrocious orkish handwriting looks like the type of script that would summon a portal to the Nine Hells if read aloud by a wizard.
Xaulsighs as he notices that small detail about the latch, and simply thinks Whoever is doing this better keep to smashing plates and locking doors, else we're gonna have a problem if it gets more malicious...He then tells the group 'Well, obviously Sehaethas will be going, and since we're all invited I'd definitely like to attend, what about you two?', referring to Skye and Damros. After receiving an answer he heads towards the door, saying 'I better get my clothes sorted out as soon as possible, so I'm going out now to the tailors if anybody wants or needs to come with me!'
[I'll add Fine Clothes to my inventory and subtract the relevant GP when it's confirmed that there are no hiccups on the way to or from the tailors!]
Sehaethas will also come to get new clothes. Although his tailoring would be more difficult, since anything he wears must be sized to accommodate Kylaski's form as well, since she might force a form change at any time without warning. Especially allowing for a tail to appear might be difficult with fine clothing!
Damros looks over his shoulder one last time at the hatch before leaving to the talior shop. Every time someone extolls the wonder of opera, his eyes go dark and the chatter moves on to other subjects. 'This is NOT how I expected to spend my days,' he thought glumly.
(What would Skye need to roll, if anything, to know the fashions and mores of someone of their class going to the opera - is it fine clothes needed? If so, what style of fine clothes to not stand out in a bad way).
Not even to get clothes that would fit both Sehaethas and Kylaski?
So, that is a bit more challenging. It depends on how much of a fit you want. If you want it to be an outfit that looks good on one while not looking terrible on the other (but not looking great) you can get that for the normal fine clothes price. If you want an outfit that looks good on both due to clever stitching, that's going to be double. If you want a totally custom outfit that can switch between two completely different appearances and fits both seemlessly (think quick change artist style, but easy to switch back and forth), that will be tripple cost.
After much cajoling (she presumes, no one has directly spoken to her), Skyesays to no one in particular that they've twisted her arm, and that if she must then she will head to a tailors for some finer wear. Several hours go past, as Skyeworks her way back and forth between two tailors in opposite shopfronts, proclaiming loudly that she has no time for fashion, but increasingly exacting in her instructions and her judgements on their work, almost as if she cares immensely about the final product.
Once her measurements are taken and the winning tailor retires from her sight and ignores her calls, she heads back to the inn. "As an invitation to an event for possible paying work, do the funds for these fine outfits come from the communal chest?" she asks shamelessly.
Xaulrather enjoys the entire outfitting process. He takes the tailor through exactly what he wants from his outfit, in devastating detail. The final piece is as follows: A simple white shirt, to contrast his previous cream tunic, which is worn beneath a sea green waistcoat, embroidered with swirling, wave-like patterns that seem fairly elven in their design. He then has his newly bejewelled drinking horn attached onto the jacket via a gold chain, and stored within a holster on his belt, which holds up his pair of equally dark sea green trousers too. He then wears a pair of thin, black leather shoes that seem far too small for him and take far too long to fit his feet into, but when he manages that, he completes the look with a cavernous charcoal grey overcoat, which goes down to his knees and has 6 pearl buttons down the naval of the coat, attached in sets of two. You would assume these are to fit in with his deep-sea patron's theming, though when the tailor asks why he wants such a particular button type, he replies 'It reminds me of an old friend.' Finally, he places a top hat onto his head, trying to adjust it to such an angle where it doesn't slip too far down his brow, or perch too high up, considering the fact that his skull is rather cone-shaped at the top.
Even when the outfit is completed, Xaulspends the time he has before the event fully rinsing himself with Humid Oasis's water, constantly adjusting minor aspects of himself with disguise self so he looks the part, though not too much so that he looks a different person, rather just enough so that anybody that sees him again after this evening would just assume he put some particular effort into his appearance for the occasion, or is just having a very rough day. He makes his thinning black hair a little more thick and shiny, spending a good few minutes in front of a mirror lengthening and shortening it to accommodate best beneath his hat and to cover his literal pear-shaped head, then makes his soft green skin a little clearer, brightening his eyes and bleaching his teeth until his short tusks seem to be made of the finest ivory. He replies to Skye whilst adjusting his ears (pointed or round? Small or large?) that 'I personally paid with my own funds, but you can pay from the chest if you like. No doubt that it will be replenished regardless, and I'll likely dip into the pot later on anyway.'
Damros slaps his forehead, "I could have used the slush fund?"
He shrugs and sighs, "No matter, it allowed me to lighten my purse of an excess of electrum pieces. At the moneychangers, they exchanged 4 electrum for one Taol. One Taol is the same as two Dragons. By the time I was done, I had 10 Taol or 20 Dragons - which covered my fine clothing with a nice tip to the tailor."
"I probably overpaid but it was a rush job getting fitted for this evening."
Sehaethas is well aware that his current clothing doesn't look good in either form, it's always tight in some places and loose in others. Not at all suitable for an opera.
He's tempted to get cloths that just fit him will, but he can't count on Kylaski not changing at some point. This means that he'll have to get it tailored so that it will fit both of them, which means showing the tailer both forms. This is something seat is won't do unless it's necessary, but it is indeed necessary to get good looking clothes.
So Sehaethas finds a tailer and asked for a private discussion. He explains that he's two people in one body, and sometimes switches between forms out of his control. So he needs fine clothing suitable for the opera that will look good in either form. Fortunately Kylaski finds is interesting, so she cooperates. She seemed to enjoy being measured and fitted, or maybe she just enjoyed the attention.
After discussing the options, Sehaethas chooses a business suit with tails tailored to fit them both. The tails hide the slit for the tail to come out. While stretchy areas would allow for the change in body shape.
While having an outfit that could change between a suit and a dress was interesting, the price for something that sophisticated was beyond what he could currently afford. As it is, they suit to fit post of themwell use up most of his savings.
Changing back and forth before the mirror, Both Sehaethas and Kylaski were pleased with the final result, though Sehaethas was not so happy with the dent at put in his coin purse.
So I have found an error in the module. The message given says "Lightsinger Theater in the Sea Ward" whereas the text about attending says "Lightsinger Theater is a high-end establishment located in the Castle Ward.". But wherever it is, you attend. It is easy enough to get directions to a prestigious opera.
You listen (or not) to the first half of the opera, going to find Mirt in the intermission. Sure enough, you are let into Private Box C and see Mirt (image in spoiler at the bottom). "Thank you all for coming. I have heard good things about you all. I am a member of the Harpers, you might have heard of us. We work behind the scenes to keep power away from evil tyrants. We sometimes get called spies but I think that is a bit far. We blend into society to listen out for anything we can to then act on it, but we don't typically need to lie about who we are. That is why we like musicians such as you Sehaethas. You draw in a crowd, and crowds talk. But that isn't to say the rest of you are less effective either, anyone who can go somewhere unnoticed or get people talking is an asset. As such, I am happy to offer all of you entry to the Harpers. None of you need accept. Or you may all choose to accept. If you do, I will be your main contact and I do have a task you could do right away, well, in the morning. If none of you wish to accept, the Harpers will not bother you again."
Xaul is very, very entertained by the opera, and although he can't speak a word of Giant, he gathers enough of the story from the context on stage to follow along, consistently on the edge of his seat. He's almost disappointed when the intermission comes around, though he then remembers the purpose of this entire event. He's intrigued with what Mirt has to say, and then even more surprised to hear that the offer is extended to the entire party. He does realise this is Sehaethas's evening, and would hate to take the shine off him, but then again, Mirt did say that musicians and entertainers made excellent Harpers, and that definitely one of Xaul's expertise. He'll wait to see what the rest of the party thinks, but is still intrigued by the offer, silently considering if this might conflict with his duties within the Iron Gauntlet.
Sehaethas enjoyed the opera, Kylaski not so much. Not understanding giant, he focused on the music and the projected emotions.
Sehaethas replies to the offer, "That sounds interesting indeed. And something I could do. What about you Kylaski?"
Instead of just answering, Kylaski changed forms before replying. After all, Sehaethas had paid extra for the suit too look good on her. "That sounds like it could be fun, but I'll leave the music to you."
She then changed back to Sehaethas's form, so he added, "OK we're in. Can you tell us more about the task you have?"
Damros tugs and pulls on his jacket. "Xaul's Knights were not exactly my style. Perhaps being a Harper is not that bad though, I am no tippy toeing spy by any measure."
He looks around to see who might be listening, " a city this big has to have some mainline factions... though I suppose they have people knocking down their doors to get in these days. Let us hope 'somebody' has a job worthy of our skills."
“Just a very simple mission to start with. One that should allow you to get familiar with the city, and also help us out a bit. One of the drays working in the city is pulled by a talking mare named Maxeene. Locate her, find out if she’s learned the identity of any Zhent operatives, and if so, determine their whereabouts. 25 dragons when you report what she says back. It is a very generous reward for the ease of task."
Sehaethas thinks for a moment before answering, "That seems simple enough, the difficult part is doing so discreetly. While looking like a crazy person talking to horses would be a down side, giving people the idea that there is a talking horse would be the real downside. Hmm, do you have a description of Maxeene to cut down on how many horses we need to try talking to? Is there a code phrase to let her know we're ok to talk to? I was thinking that might be more discrete to have a pair of people talking to each other, so as to not be so obvious about it, but is there anything they could say to each other that Maxeene would respond to?"
Damros mutters to those near him, "I hope we can go back and change clothes. From what was told, we would be sure targets for the locals, us walking about in 'these' clothes."
"Not that I have clothing specifically for speaking to horses... but I would prefer to have more daggers available."

Looking at the catch, it doesn't look like it could easily latch itself. It would need deliberate movement to latch it.
What is the current plan as well? Who is going to the opera? And with what outfits?
