Except for the settingBarnabas, you go to a tavern to find adventurers? Horros says adding emphasis. At taverns there are drunkards who don't question things as long as there is money. It Is too suspicious
Barnabas turns his grin with a queer eye towards Horros, "In my experience a liar never trusts another, a thief always hides his wealth, ha, a cobblers kids have no shoes. my this is fun" he sidles closer to Horros feigning the rapid rib punch of close bros, before trying to throw a meaty arm around his shoulder.
"You know this reminds me of a story, if you will", without pause he begins, talking for ages it seems "...right, so there I was, pants around my ankles and the woman's husband fuming in the doorway, the window far to small for ahem well, you can see" He makes a full body gesture before continuing. "...and so if it wasn't for that chicken wing i probably wouldn't have gotten away."
"Twenty each," Ash added to Melchior's claim as they began to walk down the trail to where the camp their employer claimed was. "Not that I'm complaining about the price. And why shouldn't I walk in the field, Melchior, the path is full of shit from horses and other beasts of burden, after all."
"And let's face it, someone wearing robes like that in the middle of a tavern is obviously suspicious. But I think you guys are overlooking something major about this: that small chest is apparently needed to summon another one. Maybe whatever's in that chest is why he's willing to pay so much for the small one."
OOC: Melchior, you and Erik have the best Survival scores?
Melchior nodded at Barnabas, and stepped ahead of the group muttering prayers and hymns as if to help him follow the tracks of the little thieves. Survival: 22
" I must agree with you madam," He said, "There must be something more than what we were let in on." He paused before continuing with, "And I see no problem with wearing robes."
He continued ahead, trying to keep at a faster pace than the rest. His robes dragged on the ground, yet still remained in pristine condition. He continued mumbling strange chants and prayers, slowly getting quite and quieter as he walked, "The One light, The One path, The One vision, My Lady, The All-Sight..." Was but one of the openings he used to the many prayers.
Barnabas sidles over into the group, his smile infectious, or so he likes to believe. "If you wanted more details Horros, why didn't you speak up?" He falls into an easy cadence, matching the step and posture of his audience. "Im sure he would have answered all you had to ask, why come now, isnt this an adventure. Secrets, mystery, the great outdoors" he says with a grand flourish of his meaty arm.
"I am sure the goblins, at least their corpses are just over yonder hill, I can see it now" Crouching with a look of intensity on his face, his arm slowly painting a picture of suspense, his posture changing to convey one looking into the storied past. 'Our hero, a cloaked man, beset by a horde of goblins. Each intent on gutting the man, or woman, lets not be rude here." Barnabas laughs, a roll from his belly up and out from quivering chins. "Short sword stabbing, one after another only to watch, helpless, as the horde pilfers his goods and make away with his most prized possession, the anger, the angst, the futility of killing your foes and yet; still lose it all."
"Does anybody have a quill and paper, I need to get this down!"
Barnabas is correct, just over the hill there is some goblin corpses, currently being picked at by some carrion birds, who fly away as the noisy party approach. There are 3 corpses to be precise, all goblin. The two nearest the trail seem to be killed by fire, with one a bit further out that looks more bruised than burnt.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Barnabas surveys the hills and fields, looking for any movement. He glances at Erik, nodding his head in agreement, yet his feet continue onward. "Great idea, keep a look out, I don't want any scraggly goblins stabbing me in the back." His accent thick on these last words.
Starting quite wide of the carnage, Barnabas will circle the scene looking for clues, and trails left behind, perception : 24
You are able to find what looks like quite a few footprints heading to and from the corpses, and look like they might head towards a wooded area. There are a few bushes along the route that could be good ambush spots. To follow them, and/or get more information about number, that will be a survival check
Melchior walks forward, placing a hand on Erik’s shoulder saying, “Fear is nothing but the doubt that no one is protecting you.” He walks forward to the burnt corpses, trying to determine what exactly happened here. Investigation: 17
It looks like the goblin was killed by fire. Judging by the marks, probably magical in nature. (If Ash looks, she will determine that it is a fire bolt that killed them, same as she can cast, but looks like the caster was stronger than she is.)
As Barnabas searches around the area, kicking the crpes of the dead and beaten goblin he thinks to himself, Well maybe an Adventurer I am, action, excitement, intrigue I thought were the hallmarks but all we have done is wander the hills and fields, perhaps I have been all along. Didn't know patience was such a calling... He chuckles to himself and heads off into the woods, not looking back he follows the trail into danger, in search of a heart quickening desire to truly live, to explore, to seek his destiny.
Melchior stands from inspecting the goblins, and swiftly turns in the direction of Barnabas and follows after. He search’s the ground for any form of tracks to follow: Survival- Natural 20+4= 24

Are we there yet? he asked
"Why do you find a fault in healthy payment? Why are you not grateful, Horros?"

After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)
"Should we approach these corpses? I say we should observe from a distance for now."

Is anyone else doing anything while Barnabas is taking a look around?

"What do you see, Melchior? Is it safe to proceed?"
Barnabas will follow the tracks, only a short distance keeping within sight of his companions and far enough away from the shrubbery.
He is looking g to ascertain the numbers of goblins, which direction they headed and any other details.
"Looks like they headed in this direction at least (x) in number. Goblins are a sneaky lot, we should watch for traps." He looks back to the group.
"We should get moving, Melcher, will you take the lead with me in keeping an eye on the trail and any dangers?
Ooc- Barnabas will 'help' with tracking and trap perception.
I am on a phone only with no access to dice. Swift if a roll is needed please do it for me if you will
