Fargim raises his eyebrows, "Her story? I... I don't know. I didn't ask. She hasn't met any giants personally though, so she probably hasn't seen too much of the world."
He then looks at Elrik narrowing his eyes, "You haven't met any, have you? I feel like we spoke about it, but I'm not sure any more."
"Nay. No giants thus far. But here's to hoping."Elrik then throws his head back and finishes off another pint of ale. Elrik then muses aloud."Thane walks into his brother's home after being away for a decade, but Arugg doesn't offer him so much as a drink. Arugg's wife and young ones, however, give him a hero's welcome."
Elrik immediately falls into a series of memories of his own brother.
Hox notes as the dwarf finishes his pint and waddles over there with his platter of drink. He takes a mug off his platter and places it near the dwarf, "Hox bring drink to short man." Before he turns to leave he looks to Farqim, scrutinizing him. "Boy is...boy is giant but small?" He looks him over once more, "He no gnome, yes? Hox no like gnomes."
"That was some excellent song, Diana," Arugg says as the bard sits down, "You know your craft well. My brother Thane here has just returned from a long absence."
Thane recounts some of his time away, which was spent almost entirely hunting down orcs from the Longhunt clan. Every time he speaks the word, it is harsh, exiting his mouth with clear hatred.
Suddenly, a young man rushes into the longhouse with another man brandishing the symbol of the local peacekeepers, the Reavers. Arugg stands and salutes. "Welcome, Roccar. Your presence honor--"
"No time for that!"Roccar cuts him off, motioning to the young man with him, and announcing, "Orcs ran off with Jarl's herd. They could be Tornskulls. We must give chase!" At the mention of orcs, Thane moves closer to the conversation.
"Jarl is betrothed to my Lucia, my men will be yours to command, Reaver." Arugg replies, and as the others make preparations, he approaches each of you. "Fargim, Elrik, Volthero, go with Roccar and Jarl. And take Hox with you, please. The feast must be put on hold. Diana, I could sense the magic within your music. Will you accompany Old Poe and my men?"
He announces, "By Andarson tradition, you are expected to make a formal response to this request for service. Payment awaits you when you return."
OOC: This is the first of a unique mechanic in this adventure. How do each of you respond, in either first or third person?
Elrik: "Arugg, m' lord, I would have it no other way. I humbly accept your request, and, in your service, may my axe hew many orc necks! And that will be payment enough!"
Fargim yelps, "Me?! I have done all the chores to the best of my ability for the last month.. at least!!"
Looking around he sees that his outburst was neither expected nor well received.
He says, "Yes, I understand. I need to take care of Hox, he can't read and someone needs to say things to him slowly. I can do that. And make holes for shitting and sleeping. I will go."
He goes to one of the men preparing things and tries to figure out what he needs to bring for this.
Hox looks at the other members of the task then to Arugg, "You give Hox gold?" He ponders for a moment, "You also set Hox free, yes?" He tosses the platter aside, as he starts to happily cackle and hop on the spot. He does it for a few moments before rushing off, looking for his daggers and armor.
Volthero presents himself in a strict military manner. "I will do as you have commanded, Arugg. These Orcs will pay dearly for this disrespect." He turns to the rest of the called "Make ready your packs, let us meet outside the hall ready to travel as quickly as possible."
Within 10 minutes he stands ready in front of the hall with his weapons and pack made ready for travel.
Arugg considers the thought for a moment, then chuckles. "Old Poe may look as his name indicates, but I assure you he is more than capable of defending himself. Don't let his wandering mind fool you. I will...ask him to leave you ample opportunity for glory, however."
To Hox, he says "Yes, yes, Hox, if you do a good job I will consider releasing you. You've been doing excellent work."
There is a horse available for each of you, and Roccar, Old Poe, Jarl and Thane also mount up and head out alongside. The beginning of the trip is tense and silent, as Roccar quickly leads the way toward the location of Jarl's herd, horses galloping with an urgent pace. Thane and Roccar eventually break the silence with a tense exchange.
"Thinking of bowing down to my brother now, are we Roccar? You think a man too afraid to fight for his family is fit for the council?"
"I would rather ride than rule, Thane. The work of a Reaver never ends, and your brother is not so bad a man."
"I would suggest you tell that to our mother you fool, if she were here to listen to your nonsense."
Hox struggles to stay put on the large beast, bouncing on the saddle as they gallop. He looks to the two men, "These people have the same den mother?," He tries to see the similarities between the two, "Makes sense...both scary, den mother must be more scary."
Elrik takes note of the love lost between brothers and wonders if he'll ever be privy to the meaning of tell that to our mother.
The sight of the kobold jostling about in the saddle brings Elrik out of his reverie. "Hox, m'lad, the two of us weren't made for riding horses, were we? What would you say to making a friendly wager on which one of us falls off his horse first? One piece of gold, eh?"
While galloping right behind Thane, Diana thinking to herself:
* It's really strange that Arugg wasn't with us, sending his brother to deal with problems? What an idiot! that was a clear opportunity to prove his worthiness. Primitive civilizations respect only pure strength, you can't sit your ass back.
Diana heard Thane and Roccar speech, as they weren't silent, screaming at each other.
* So, not much brother love out there it seems, need to keep an eye on this orc-slayer.
Diana looked down on Old Poe in disdain.
* If some Orc would break his neck, that would be fun.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hox's ear twitch at the sound of gold, "Me get gold if me falls, yes? Okay!" He takes a hold of the reins and jumps off the horse, hoping to hold on by the reins.
Fargim is not used to riding, nor does he know how far are they going. But he's holding on to the best of his ability.
"HOW MANY ORCS WERE THERE?" he shouts to be heard to the front of the column. Not knowing what to do with the information, he would still feel that it would be good to know.

Diana flourishes in excitement and started to clap hands fast.
- Oh! An Orc hunt! Sign me in. Should be a good story to tell.
* Diana thinks: But not with this redneck.. dilettante.
- Isn't Old Poe too old? You better keep him safe, well-fed AND watered.

Diana smiles.
