Briar held the ham steady as Aelinn hacked off thick slices. She moved out from behind the dwarf dropping backpack and cloak. She moved towards the dogs calling softly in elven You are a good dog aren't you? Want some? She raised the meat to her mouth and tore off a strip, yum, come on there's plenty for all of you. She threw a hunk of ham at the dog peering at them. Sitting on the floor she continued to egg them nearer one ham slice at a time. Animal Handling check 19
She had total confidence that Felmar would kill them if this didn't work. Such a waste of life.

Your troupe stops as you pass the warm mists at the front of the cavern. The whole room has a light haze from the waterfall, water coats the walls and runs in rivulets back towards the source of the stream. The dogs, ears up and alert are sniffing at the air, not quite sure how to identify your group. Krikas creeps along, careful not to step and crush any of the fallen popcorn stone on the floor. Briar lifts a leg of ham while Aelinn takes the idea, a swift hunk of raw pickled ham is sliced off, chunks tossed gently ahead as he moves forward a few paces.
The dogs ears tuck back against their skull, haunches raised they continue to sniff, catching the smell of the ham, intriguing, enticing it floats towards them. The Half-elf keeping low and non-threatening. A sudden bang as several stones pop against the right hand wall, close to the hounds. They turn, barking and yapping at the noise, but nothing remains to move or call attention. The hound furthest away lowers its body and stalks slowly towards where the sound came from. A fourth slinks around the corner from space unseen, deeper towards the back.
"Stupid hounds, shut up, or no dinner again tonight" The man above grumbles, the sounds from above quickly return to excited yells and raucous laughter. The lead Hound and the one from the west side snarl, their lips pull back revealing vicious canines ready to rip intruders apart. They slink forward slowly, there is fight in these dogs. The Hounds can smell the meat, their eyes glued to Aelinn, The lead dog thrusts forward, a full charge. Leaping over the river it sees a man holding meat and means to kill to take it. The second Hound, not to be outcompeted races after the first. It leaps the thin stream, snatching up tossed hunks of ham, gulping them as she goes.

He has to prevent them from raising an alarm. Aelinn is overtaken, the dogs, ravished and hungry, their ribs show beneath their patchy coats. The offer of food, or rather the tease of food is too much. The lead dog leaps to take thethroat from the rogue, to kill so that it may feed. Surprised by the ferocity the Elf tries to roll away from its savage attack. The hound take s the opportunity, its teeth barred snapping at the retreating Elf, only to be met by the metal and wood fist of the construct. The hounds teeth shatter against Rusty's fist, it whimpers and falls twitching to the ground.
Felmar steps in, his hammer striking the poor animal, desperate to feed, to devour the offered scraps of raw pickled pork. The Halfling finishes the animal quickly, not allowing the starved animal to suffer, or to betray their presence.
The last two hounds realize the noise did not reveal a presence, nothing was in the corner or against the wal. The smell of blood tickles the beasts nose. The enticing aroma of food, if only they could clam it. The strangers would not be tolerated, they were not to be denied. The two hounds turn, ears plastered to their heads, a low growl from barred teeth turns into a loud barking, angry, they charged the dwarf. He stood over the pork, he was meat himself. They would not be denied. Covering the distance in the blink of an eye the hounds tore into Felmar. Attacking in concert, they try to drag him to the ground.
From above an angry bellow can be heard. "By the gods, I'm going to beat them senseless. What in the hells has gotten in to them. Goman, lower me down. come on hurry up" The sound of booted feet stomping on to the wooden slats of the lift. A creak, followed by the squeal of metal rubbing against metal. The raiders above, the lift has just cracked its seal and beginning to descend.
Felmar is knocked prone by one of the dogs. That dog however was only able to taste armor in its attack. The second one however was able to land a solid bite on the poor dwarf once he was on the ground. Fighting every urge to curse, Felmar shakily rises back to his feet again. He eyes the beast that injured with vehement hatred. He takes another swing hoping to remove the threat quickly

Standing away from the main group, Krikas watches as the hounds he had tried to fool run with a speed even the swiftest of race horses would envy towards his new friends. As the brutal dogs engage with Felmar it is then that he hears the creak of the pulleys and ropes from above. "Oh great. Just great" he mumbles as he brings his crossbow to bear. Glancing at the dogs then up at the lift then back to the dogs, he takes aim and lets a bolt loose.
Attack: 23 Damage: 10
Action - xbow attack on the dog that missed Felmar
(Felmar, don't forget you have a Bardic Inspiration die to use when you like)
With the fall of the hound near Aelin Briar circles back to aid Felmar. "Curse that lift." he mutters as it begins to lower. He strikes out with his warhammer.
She gains her feet a little shaken from the close call, just in time to see the hounds attack Felmar. She pulls her bow out aiming at the dog that had succeeded in the bite (attack 18, damage 8)
She can hear the lift creaking down, hopefully they'd kill the dogs before the brigand arrived, and she moved further into shadow seeking to disappear (stealth roll 16)
The dog drives Felmar to the ground, its teeth snapping at his throat. It will take the meat offered, it will take the life of the dwarf to satisfy itself. Lips pulled back in a snarl, saliva drips from the ravenous jaws. The snap of a crossbow, nearly drowned by the falling water, snaps a bolt into the dogs side. The sudden charge and thrust of Briars Warhammer crashes upon the beasts head. It slumps, the weight crashing against the dwarf, pressing him into the ground. Not hesitating for the fear of what is descending upon the lift, the smaller man pulls forth a javelin and readies himself for what is to come. Felmar pulls himself out from under the dog and returns to his feet.
Aelinn continues to tumble backwards, clearing the space where the dogs snarl and snap at anything moving. An Arrow flies across the distance to plunge into the last dogs neck. Not enough to drop the beast it begins to bark and snarl uncontrollably. It jaws gnashing at the closest form, Felmar it can reach. Aelinn tries to disappear into the shadows.
The lift creaks as the feet of a man can be seen through the first crack of light from above. He continues to harangue the dogs below, threats and expletives clearing his throat in anger. Promises of pain and suffering for disturbing him. Only one man can be seen on the lift, but you know there are others above, at least one other, perhaps more.

1 dog, badly hurt remains. The lift is descending slowly, the calves of a man the only thing visible, yet.
Briar draws a javelin and moves towards the hound.
To-Hit: 15+4 = 19 Damage: 3+2 = 5 piercing
With the lift being lowered he whispers to the others, "They'd have cover but it's a choke point unless they flank us from the rope ladder. Do we hide in hopes of ambushing him or strike now?"
He takes a position towards the water-fog. Depending on the others' thoughts, perhaps trying to get into one of the alcoves on the left side of the map.
[[ By the way, how high is the lift? Given previous cave dimensions I'm guessing 40-50ft? Mainly wondering in terms of figuring our javelin vs sacred flame. ]]
She watched the dog continue to attack Felmar thwarted by his armour saving him. A javelin launched by Briar hit at the dog. It was so badly wounded that little was needed to kill it.
She moved to stand behind the lift, the feet pointing the opposite way. She is next to the rock column sunk in the shadows. Stealth check 27 (natural 20)
She heard Briars whisper. It's too late we'll have to kill the handler or they'll be on high alert, maybe we should try the other entrance, though I'm not sure that Rusty can get up a ladder.
If Briar's attack isn't enough to end the final dog, Rusty punches down at the dog's head, hoping to crush its skull into silence, but he misses, and slams his fist into the floor beside it due to the low light.
This is how I picture the scene currently. The dogs are dead, their corpses laid before Felmar and Rusty. The bottom of the lift when fully docked above is 40' from the floor. It has currently dropped about 6'. Enough space for the mans head to drop lower than the floor above. He has a torch, its light is just beginning to spill into the room below.
Aelinn slung her shortbow, and pulled out two daggers. Waiting silently for the brigand to descend. Due to her darkvision she could see him perfectly. His torch just taking the edge off the darkness. The shadows held her safely stealth check 21.
