(technically either way Argos gets in trouble with that 9 lol)
Argos grunted from instinct from that stubbed toe. He didn't even realize the tall elf until he talked.
"Oh, carp... His teeth..." Argos looked with a stunned expression. He broke out of the trance when he ruffled his hair and got pushed. "Hey, watch it!"
He heard heavy steps and looked at the boss. And whooo boy... "A-ah I was just going to leave... don't mind me!"
Then he hears those words...
Argos's heart starts beating rapidly, he can't even respond to what's going on. (Maybe besides the bad breath, he felt disgusted for a moment)
Macario stares across the kitchen at the flickering outline illuminated by his magic, his body filling with the adrenaline of combat but unsure what to do. “Do we fight it?” he asks Inra. “Can we fight it? This seems more your realm than mine!”
[[ Faerie fire useful!! A druid’s dream!!! Also crazy that it failed the save wow ]]
Scanning their faces, you can see that the tall elf is riled up for a confrontation. He seems very gleefully jittery even with his arms crossed. His body just can't stand still, that wide toothy grin sprawled across his face with wild eyes locked on you. He bites the air when you tell him to 'watch it', throws his head to laugh, and looks down and shakes it like he's biting onto rope for an invisible game of tug of war, imitating exactly how a dog would do it. He is itching for a fight and you know it.
The other one, the bulky human, doesn't seem too keen on it- just more inquisitive. It seems like he already knows the answer, but you can tell from his grin he gets a kick out of messing with someone less than his size.
These two are not supposed to be at the hotel, no doubt.
"A-ah I was just going to leave... don't mind me!" you say.
Then silence... as you can't think of what more to say.
"Cat got your tongue?"
A sly smile appears cross the bulky man's face. He raises an eyebrow, but doesn't say a word until he pats down your head once more.
"Good." His breath puffs right in you face as he elongates that word. The human man gives you one last stare down before even he lets you go. The other looks disappointed, but accepts, frowning. He leans in real close still anyways to nearly press his face against yours, he stays long enough for him to whisper 'see you later,'then jolts back in (almost) an instant. With that crazed smile all the same.
"He ain't worth it."
Swinging the duffel-like bag onto his shoulders, he starts to head down, and the lanky-elf begins to follow. And then-
He turns back to face you.
"Hey listen, if you see any one of 'em stupid mangy tieflings around gallivanting 'bout back here. Bring him to me. We'll take care of the rest." They offer you no reward. No, nothing. Except maybe for the lanky-elf who fakes a swing at you with... his claws? Now you know he's got Primal Savagery.
They continue to descend down the stairs.
@Macario
((Faerie fire: 30 seconds left))
The blink dog blinks in an out of existence. Its body illuminated by an outline by your faerie fire during the interspersed periods it is there.
"I- uh." Inra stares blankly for a second as you mention to fight it. This actually managed to tame down her anger. "I har- hardly know anything about the fey themselves. I.. don't-"
As soon as she says that the dog is charging towards you both.
Now she seems very sure. "I hate them."She hisses, stepping forward and casting Spiritual Weapon and a long spectral sword glows in her hand.
Before she even goes to swing it, the dog is gone.
Then it is back again.
((Faerie Fire: 0 seconds left))
((A map! The two circles are you and Inra and the further one up is the blink dog. I don't know how to do icons just yet. I'm using Dungeon Scrawl))
Macario takes a defensive stance with his knife, really wishing he had a concealed shield like Inra. As the fey creature begins to charge, his left arm is once again enveloped in a sickly green glow as a translucent clawed hand reaches out for the dog (chill touch nat 20! dealing 10 necrotic damage). He then moves 10 feet closer to the dog, intent on protecting Inra.
The rest of the events leading up the stairs are uneventful. You keep on climbing to what honestly seems like forever- and then you make it. It turns out, like the big man said, you took the wrong stairs. And this leads up to an observatory, a balcony outpost on the treetop canopy that extends wide. It is a pretty large open space with a couple of lounge chairs and even a telescope at the far edge. Other than that, no one else shares the space around you.
From this view you can the whole of Twimee'zah up here. It is quite beautiful. The canal many miles to the south can be seen from up at this height. Walking around 360 you can see the towering expanse of the mountains. Even the breeze from up here is much cooler. The roaring sound of the waterfall flows beneath you. A couple of birds chirp and flitter up above you.
It truly is relaxing.
@Macario
Round 1 continued...
Macario (25/25 HP) - Run 10 ft; Cast Chill Touch 20> 13 A Hit. 10 Damage -----> Blink Dog ( 12/22 HP)
The dog whimpers at your attack, rearing its head at your Chill Touch. You go in front of Inra to protect her, which catches her by surprise but she does no object.
The dog then runs in front of you and attempts to Bite you, but misses. Its ears are set firmly on its head as it growls.
"How in the world is this happening?!"Inra exclaims, once again attempting to attack the dog with Spiritual Weapon. Yet once more, misses.
Blink Dog (14) (12/22 HP) - Recharge (Teleport) - 4 Success. Run 40 ft (its position is the square by the right side of the table and in front of you) ; Bite @Macario 2 + 3 = 5 < 13 A Miss.
As the dog approaches Macario (reaction), the protective shadows he had drawn about himself that morning momentarily lash out against it (halo of spores, 2 necrotic damage, DC 13 CON save for none). He then follows up on Inra’s attack with a swift jab of his knife (11 to hit, misses).
[[ Beginning of Blink Dog’s turn it makes another CON save for the halo of spores reaction, this time taking 7 necrotic damage on a failure. Also I don’t think it will really be an issue but I just recast symbiotic entity as we entered the kitchen and it’s a 10 minute duration so the time remaining on it is probably closer to 7-8 minutes. ]]
((ahh sorry I didn't realize those!!! Thank you for telling me. I really thought halo of spores was for 20 minutes. Thank you so much for the help sorry I keep missing things.))
Round 2 continued...
Macario (25/25 HP)
(Reaction) Halo of spores 2 damage ----> Blink Dog Rolled 14 + 1 = 15 > DC 13 CON save. Success. ----> Blink Dog takes no damage
(Action) Attack with knife-dagger 11 < 13 A Miss. ----> Blink Dog takes no damage
The dog yelps when it feels the shadows coming. Luckily for it, however, it does no damage. Neither did the swing and miss. You hear it slightly chortle.
By staying in that spot once again, it feels the shadows coming, but brushes it off with a shake of its fur. Realizing it can take damage from you by just standing there, the blink dog runs down towards Inra, attempting to attack her with a malicious [Tooltip Not Found], yet fails, only biting air.
"I thought they're supposed to be playful?" Her eyes widen when it approached her, then falls to a look of dismay. She turns to you, then looks away and grimaces. "I mean I don't really know- I've just heard."
The dog magically teleports away from you both, heading towards the westernmost stove, growling.
"Hey you! Get back here!"Inra runs towards where the dog teleport, robe flapping and brandishing her Spiritual Weapon once more. It hits, slicing through the dog's skin with a total of 3 damage. The dog whimpers and whines but its beady little eyes stay darkly furrowed on Inra.
Initiative Order:
Blink Dog (14) (12/22 HP)
Against Macario's halo of spores reaction 7 damage ----> 12 + 1 = 13 = DC 13 Con Success ---> Blink Dog takes no damage
(Movement) Run up 5 feet, east 10 ft, south 20 ft (right in front of Inra)
(Action) Bite @Inra 1 + 3 = 4 < Inra's AC 13 A Miss.
( Before or after teleporting, the dog can make one bite attack.) Teleport 30 feet diagonally (current position on map)
Inra (13) (27/27 HP)
Run 20 ft west, 10 feet north (current position on map)
(Action) Cast Spiritual Weapon again 10 + 4 = 14 > 13 A Hit; 1 + 2 Damage. ---> Blink Dog takes 3 damage (9/22 HP left)
Macario (11) with Symbiotic entity for 7:48 minutes (17 + 8 = 25 /25 HP) ....
“Those bites don’t seem very playful!” Macario replies to Inra as he runs up to the blink dog and stabs once more with the knife (dirty 20 to hit for 7 piercing + 4 necrotic damage).
You get to settle down there for a hot minutes. Literally everything is chill and fine. The birds are chirping. The leaves are swaying. The small mammals across the canopy top are chit-chit-chittering and scurrying about.
After what is about 10 minutes of lounging and rest, you then see it. A dark gradiently clawed hand pops up from under the open fenced ledge of the balcony by where the telescope is- almost very comically like a zombie raising out of the ground. A grunt, and then you see its elbow pop up as it starts to leverage the rest of its body up.
And there it is- a matted fluff of curly red hair peeks up from underneath. Two small goat-like horns extend out from the mass of hair. Then up pops a face. And a pair of dark brown eyes who catch sight of you, and then the head goes and ducks down. "Aww fu- .... fudge." Their hand is still holding onto the ledge and is shaking now.
Whoever this is, they have been clinging onto the branch hoisting up the balcony for a very long time.
@Macario
((oof it took me forever to realize that when I wrote that ooc message that I actually never changed the time for the symbiotic entity because when I originally did it I changed it pressed undo too many times and it was gone. oops))
Round 3 continued...
Macario (25/25 HP)
Move 20ft
(Action) Attack with knife-dagger 20 > 13 Big Success. ----> Blink Dog takes 7 + 4 = 11 damage (0/22 HP) DEAD
You move to hit the blink dog with the knife, stabbing it right through the eye. The dog walks back, whimpers, then drops dead on the cold hard tile floor. Inra pants and leans against the table,"Wow... that was... surely something."
"I can't believe you did that."She looks at her hand that the blink dog tried to bite, then turns her head to look at you,"Th- thank you. Thank you. I really owe you one. I really do. ... You did the most out there."
She tucks her shield away behind her robe and steps to pace around the kitchen. Right before she moves, the kitchen turns into that same surreal one as before. The place itself seems to be rippling like as if your world was a river or pool and someone touched its surface and the ripples are going on circulating from its center-point. And that center-point being that bird. The dead one. The heat from the firey stoves turns on once again and the floor seems to sink. And all in an instant, it reverts.
This time once the image reimposes itself the blink dog is gone and in its place a pile of fluffy white snow. Same goes for where the toucan was. It is now just a pile of snowflakes, literally falling from an unknown point two feet above where the dead body was, which now has become a pile of ashes. The snow settles down to create soot covered slush.
The tabaxi kicks the snow to get just a soft spread of more snow pushed in the direction she kicked it. She furrows her brow and just slowly goes over to the spot where the toucan was. "May Sesisah row you to peace."She sighs and draws a sigil in the snow, a common one which you recognize is one of mourning for the dead and also an even rarer one of protection.
Inra looks up at you."I need to show you something."
You fall backwards, nearly hitting a lounge chair in the process. The person under the balcony continues to stay hidden and doesn't say anything until he hears 'tranquility time.'
"What?" is his only response for a whole minute. "I don't know maybe because... I don't think you will~" He says way too smugly. He starts putting his hands up on the ledge again and brings himself up with its just his head and arms showing. The rest of his body is still obscured by the ledge. He puts his hands around the balcony's fence as if he's behind bars, then smiles as he gets a good look at you. "Yeah, no, I think I'm right."
"Look if those guys are offering you a reward, don't buy it. It's not worth it."He mumbles to himself,"That's how they get ya."His voice returns its normal pitch."Rope you in for one, then tie you down for the rest of your life."
"Just let them know I'll be long gone from this stupid hotel before they even find me."

"Of course," Macario replies quietly, staring at the now dead fey creature before him. He jumps a bit at the sudden flicker of the superimposed burning kitchen, and when all has returned to normal, leaves his borrowed knife in the pile of snow where the blink dog had been standing only moments before. He watches as Inra draws the sigils with which he is so familiar, and when she has finished, kneels beside her and places a finger in the center where a slightly warmer, more lively green light radiates outward, illuminating the lines in the snow. [[ No specific mechanical ability here, but death is a familiar thing to him, so maybe just something flavorful akin to guidance for the dead as they transition from this realm to the next if that's okay? ]]
At Inra's words, he gets a slight frown, wondering what more the day could have in store for him, but then stands and takes a step back from the sigil as the glow fades. "Lead the way."
"Really?" He too, blinks, then looks away. "Actually, wow, really? Thank you. I'd thought I'd had to be more firm than that." He stays there for a bit, then begins climbing up. He puts his foot on the ledge, which pushes himself back and then up where he can then grab onto the pole of the fence and bring his other leg up. He's just standing there now (with the top of the fence being higher than him). He is wearing a bellhop outfit minus the hat and the gloves. It's very scuffed up with twigs and leaves hanging everywhere. His black pointed tail swishes side to side. The tiefling holds onto the fence poles like he's in a jail cell and lightly swings his body back and forth. He sighs, "Back when I was broke- well as if I'm not now too- I joined them on a job. Messed up, broke some things. Now I got to pay for them." He looks away, "I didn't think the price would be so high."
He puts his hands up to the top of the fence and jumps to lift himself up, but this fails and his foot slips and he reaches out in an instant to regrab the poles. He curses under his breath and winces. "Sorry."
He goes out to pull his foot out from where he landed when he tried to catch himself, but it doesn't budge. His foot is stuck in between the fence poles and the sleeve of his pants are caught in a branch from the tree. He grumbles. "Wait, catch this," He ducks down a bit to grab something. A second later a small white bag is swung over the fence. He goes on to try to fiddle with getting his foot out of there and just dumbly comments, "Stuck."
((you don't need to do a check to see if you caught that. you can just decide if you want to catch it or not))
@Macario
((yeah that's totally fine!!! I love adding the flavor. spice it up hehe))
The fire flickers and wanders, tracing the sigil lines in the snow. Inra watches on and nods. "Thanks. Tuca was a real show girl. She's been with me through my ups and downs since I've been kicked out." He srucnhes her face and then looks away, "I'm sorry. Sorry." She wipes away her tears, "I can't-" Her voice shakes and she grips onto the table a little more. The snow you drew the sigil lines fades and with that, peacefully starts to melt away and turns to a pool of clear water. The edge of Inra's mouth lightly cracks a smile. "Thanks."
"There's something wrong. Something clearly wrong with the hotel." She breathes in and clenches her fist. "There's something of a rift going on around here. I can feel it. I just-" She looks down at the water, "Don't know how. Some monster- fey for sure- killed my bird. Left its essence everywhere."
She nods at your approval, then steps forth and out the way, heading to the back door of the kitchen. She leads you to the another hallway, this one that exits into the ballroom and out through the 'Employees Only' door. She steps aside. The large gathering hall greets with that same smell of cinnamon in the air (oh wait is that new? yeah, nevermind, that... wasn't there before). Inra stands there to admire the view. "There's a reason this waterfall is up here and not anywhere else on the mountains."
"You see those rafters. The ones with the quetzalcoatls. It's supposed to be of the Great Battle- at least that's what my dad told me. That's when Fenya scorched the lands trying to find Dinesa. Why we have deserts and then snow."She shows you through the motions as if she's telling you a story or almost a puppet-show, "Fenya, in all her greater intensity, was going to burn Dinesa. But the Sesisah showed up in between then. She stopped them. So that is why the flow of water connects the mountains to the rock solid ground."
"At some times I feel it is a creation myth... other times. I know this." She ruffles through her pockets a bit and pulls out this... a burnt charcoal looking rock. She clutches it and pushes it down into paved ballroom floor, which it tends begins to sink into the tile, melding into it as the tile itself seems to reach out with spindly fingers into the rock. She retracts it back and things go back to normal. "It's a fey rock. A mix of both Fenya's and Dinesa's magic, I think. I found this by the waterfall. I believe... I think-"
"This is the same place where the Battle fell. Where the monsters were slew. Er, slayed. At least the waterfall is." She sighs, "What I've been warding off for all these years."
"No wonder I was born here, all sort of weird things are attracted to me. Or maybe it is because I was born here they are..."

"Look if those guys are offering you a reward, don't buy it. It's not worth it." He mumbles to himself, "That's how they get ya." His voice returns its normal pitch. "Rope you in for one, then tie you down for the rest of your life."
"Just let them know I'll be long gone from this stupid hotel before they even find me."

Argos blinked. "I was never going to do it anyway, I just wanted some time for myself."
"Wait how do you know about those guys?" He questioned them, kinda thinking he was the one they were talking about.
@Argos
((you don't need to do a check to see if you caught that. you can just decide if you want to catch it or not))
@Macario
Why we have deserts and then snow." She shows you through the motions as if she's telling you a story or almost a puppet-show, "Fenya, in all her greater intensity, was going to burn Dinesa.
