"Someone is trying to get in," Tibold whispers to Cole.
"I also believe I saw a gargoyle in one window. If the barricade starts to break at all, wake everyone up. Gotrek first; I'm afraid he'll be much more help than Thromkor or I will right now. But if it seems as if we will be attacked, I still would rather be awake for that!" he finishes with a smirk, heading for his bedroll.
To add to Tibold’s post there are three windows - 1 foot by 4 feet - in the south wall. The sill of each window is 3 feet from the floor. The ceilings in the room as with all other rooms are 12 feet high.

"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....", a group of Australian soldiers, or ‘Diggers’ as they are commonly referred to found themselves trapped far behind any lines, in a place called Tobruk, as a result of the British Army of which they were part over extending itself. Under the guidance of their General, whom they called sardonically "Ming the Merciless" because of the strict standards he demanded of his troops, the Australians became known for their aggressive use of snipers, artillery and counter-attacks achieved surprise at crucial junctures, which kept the Axis forces off balance. The German and Italian troops also learned to fear the aggressive patrolling of the Australian infantry who dominated no-man's-land and made constant raids on enemy forward positions for intelligence, to take prisoners, to disrupt attack preparations and minelaying operations, even to steal supplies that were not available in Tobruk. The Australians gave themselves the nickname "the Rats of Tobruk" after German radio described the garrison's defenders as "caught like rats in a trap". But as luck, or determination or skill, these particular rats were never captured and survived a siege of over six months before being relieved. So the questions is, finding themselves in a similar situation will Cole, Gotrek, Thromkor and Tibold be known as the Rats of the Monastery or will a less desirable outcome be their fate. Only time will tell…
As Tibold and Cole are discussing how to respond to the somebody/something trying to open the door is taken from them as there is a sudden crash against the western door and it flies open (see spoiler below) knocking what the party thought was a pretty good barricade flying.
Does the door open DC 17 24
Two large humanoids dressed in some sort of stone armour and with morning stars in their hands come into the room stomping all over the wreckage of the bookcase that had been used so unsuccessfully by the party as a barricade,
Cole flies into action with a flurry of strikes (ki point for flurry of blows both flurry attacks if they hit have a dc 13 dex save or be knocked prone)
"Ah, I, um,"he stammers, then collects himself, hurrying over to the window in which he previously saw the gargoyle. Nothing is there, so Tibold turns to Gotrek and Thromkor.
"Shall we fight? Or leave these ogres and their stench behind? It's not too far to the ground..."
Vicious Mockery, targeting the nearer of the warriors; DC 15 Wis or 2 psychic and effects.
Thromkor jerks awake at the commotion. He sits up and looks around without getting up. "Great Scott!" he says, not knowing why. The dragonborn raises a clawed hand at the closest enemy and speaks a few words in Draconic. Numbing frost forms on its stone armor.
Frostbite: needs 14 CON save or it suffers 2 cold damage and has disadvantage on its next weapon attack roll
The crash woke all the Party members and as the two armoured humans wearing the same sort of armour that Gotek has been asking all and sundry about step into room, Cole flies into action launching a flurry of blows. It is possible that he is still a bit sleepy as despite his best efforts all of his blows miss.
Tibold gulps."Ah, I, um," he stammers, then collects himself, hurrying over to the window in which he previously saw the gargoyle. Nothing is there, so Tibold turns to Gotrek and Thromkor. "Shall we fight? Or leave these ogres and their stench behind? It's not too far to the ground..." he says peering through the window which is four feet high, two feet deep (the sills at either end are 6 inches deep – included in total depth) and one feet wide (the sills at either end are two feet wide), to the ground approximately ten feet below. Following Tibold’s comments the first of the armoured humans lifts one arm and smells its armpit.
From his position in the middle of the Scriptorium, Gotrek clambers to his feet and in response to Tibold’s question replies "I don't see the point in running!"Gotrek says as he enters a rage and charges the closest Guard, wildly swinging his Great-axe which misses because he has only managed to reach square E3 and is still at least five feet short of the closest armoured human.
You hear some movement in the corridor outside of the Scriptorium.
Thromkor jerks awake at the commotion. He sits up and looks around without getting up. "Great Scott!"he says, not knowing why. He then dragonborn raises a clawed hand at the closest enemy and speaks a few words in Draconic. Numbing frost forms on its stone armor but it soon melts and falls off.
Then there is movement at the doorway and a figure dressed in robes of thin rock tiles steps into the room moving to square B1. He looks at the party with a sneer and says “what do we have here caught like rats in a trap but the despoilers of the monastery, killers of our glorious leader and stealers of our funds!” He peers around the room and continues “look at the damage they have done to our beautiful thought provoking treatises and records.” He stands there with one hand on his chin and says “I wonder how fast you can move now little rats?” as he flicks three small droplets at them (Cole, Gotrek and Thromkor). One droplet lands on Cole’s lips and he tastes something sweet, like molasses, on his lips.
Slow spell (DC 13): Saving throws recorded by Cole (10), Gotrek (6) & Thromkor (10). All three feel as if they are wading through molasses! Perched as he is near the window, Tibold is outside of the spell’s area of effect.
The first armoured human swings his Morning Star (2 handed) at Cole (AC 16, - 2 due to Slow) - 1st attack (Attack: 16 Damage: 13). He then whips it back in a return blow - 2nd attack (Attack: 13 Damage: 4).
His colleague then steps forth and swings his Morning Star (2 handed) at Cole (AC 16, - 2 due to Slow) - 1st attack (Attack: 6 Damage: 7) and also whips his Morning Star back in a return blow (Attack: 9 Damage: 7). However as the second Black Earth Guard makes his first attack he fumbles (20) and (Strength check to hold onto his weapon (DC 15) 5) fails to hang onto his weapon which flies out his hands travelling 10 feet towards (6) the southwest wall where it smashes into the western wall in square A3.
Tibold glances out the window once more, before whipping around again at the sound of their new opponent.
"Two's company, but three's a crowd," he warns the others, then blinks, a half-smile forming on his face. He turns slowly, almost casually, towards the enemy mage.
"So! You call us 'rats,' but you look more like a snail, yourself, in that armor. But no matter. Snails are easily crushed; you will be the same. But it is interesting to see what kind of 'powerful' magic you cultists wield. The others we so easily killed had little to boast about."Tibold takes a breath, grinning darkly at the mage from his leaning pose against the window.
"I'll make you an offer, because I like your sense of style: Leave now, and I won't disintegrate you just yet."
As Gotrek gets close, he recognises the armour and starts to see red. Yelling in fury, he finishes his charge towards the closest stone armoured soldier, following up with a mighty swing of his Great-Axe (Reckless).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Still sitting on the floor, Thromkor looks at the new arrival, but decides the guards are the bigger threat. He focuses on the one still holding its weapon and raises a clawed hand at it, speaking a few words in Draconic. Numbing frost forms on its stone armor.
Frostbite: needs 14 CON save or it suffers 1 cold damage and has disadvantage on its next weapon attack roll
