Soldiers from the second, third, and fourth squads arrive and dispatch all remaining waves of goblin raiders.
Captain Harlan invites you to eat with the soldiers that night, although the victory is bitter sweet.
"This raid is unheard of. These goblins were planning to attack us in our sleep. If it wasn't for your intervention, we might all be dead. Stay the night and help us tend to the injured in the morning. We will send riders at dawn to report to the Kings Council to send more troops to back us up. This is bad news for the Kingdom of Vesper and for the Goblin Tribes as well."

Captain Harlan says, "We haven't seen goblin raiders in these numbers for more than 30 years. The peace treaty with goblinkind, orcs, and the union of Darkwoods inhabitants is threatened by this incursion. If this is prelude to war, then we need to get word to the capital so we may take orders and do the will of the King. But if this is a ruse or a trick, that the goblins were merely spurred by those who might want war, then we should tread carefully."
Harlan's advisors nod and rustle in agreement. "Peace at all costs." Some of them mutter.
Harlan continues, "We shall send the messangers and riders in the morning. But I wish we could report more."
He looks at Soma and asks, "What of this note that hinted at the raid. What can we learn from this, are the goblins being controlled and manipulated or is this the beginning of the end of Peace?"
"Soma, would you lead an expedition, into the Darkwoods to learn more?"
Soma listens carefully noting the deep concerns expressed by the gathered leadership group. “Peace at all costs” he hears, “I concur brothers, peace is essential and every effort must be made to maintain the kings peace’s, but it will not be easy”. Those gathered nod in agreement.
Being asked to lead an expedition is a big honour for Soma. “My brothers the last battles we had a serious toll upon our troops, even I found it difficult and came close to meeting blessed Bahumat, yet honour dictates I most help and it is a great thing to help such august men, I will lead your expedition”.
In the morning Soma leads a group of soldiers into the Darkwoods.
After a few hours of traveling (make two survival checks), they come upon a goblin village. Old goblins and young goblins are plowing fields and building cabins.
While coming across a peaceful looking goblin village, some of the soldiers approach Soma to react, "What is this place?"
"Why are they acting civilized?"
"I don't see any warriors or weapons."
This goblin tribe does not resemble the last one you came upon in the woods. These goblins are focused on agriculture and artisan work. If there is a warrior class from this tribe, they are not here in the village.
An elder goblin approaches and speaks, "You are welcome guests. Please come to our village and ask what you like. We have very little but what we have we can share."
Soma address his soldiers, “this is good, a civilised goblin village, let us be encouraged, guarded but generous”, he explains the importance here for achieving ‘hearts and minds’ with the village elder to understand what is going on or what they learn.
